Re: Heroes Guild Log 21

Even INT 4 'people' wear clothes on a regular basic... So far as a fondness for leather armor is clothing.  Terdsisas plunked down the extra change for a mundane set of 'fine clothing' during level 1 layout for a reason though, even if Cloth Armor of the Magic variety tends to always be of fine quality, it's a principles thing.

Terdisas nods to Emerald, "No need to apologize Emerald, your obligations must be dealt with sometime, and this is a time where we are actually in town."   He smiles and bows to the enthusiastic arrival, "Hello again Bethany, it is good to see you again under pleasant circumstances."   He gestures to May, "This is my good friend May, it was her idea to include you in our outings today."

Beth handshakes May and says, "Thank you. So where to?"

May answers, "Shopping. For weapons first, then whatever else after."

Bethany ohs. And yes, she is still wearing that color-shifting clothing. "OK."

May grins up at Ter. "You were right. She is pleasant." The two girls go with Terdisas to town square where most of the shops are.

Re: Heroes Guild Log 21

Terdisas wonders why they have that urge to buy a Fine dagger, a ceremonial spear, and then make a side trip to buy five zebra skins at the mention of weapon shopping... Oh, right.  Quest For Glory reference value.  "While I could always let Bethany borrow some of my older ones, it would be a better idea for her to pick out her own staff or dagger if she needed a proper one."  Okay, so.  May is the weapons expert... But Terdisas is the 'shoot magic out of a staff or small sharp object' expert.  Who do you turn to for advice in this case?

Re: Heroes Guild Log 21

May nodnods, deferring to Terdisas on this one. He and Beth are kindred spirits, after all. Sorcerers. Well OK, so inherent magic and being cool people is about all those two have in common. What's that about liking ice cream and pizza? I said "being cool people", didn't I? Geez.

Beth doesn't seem to get it, though. "Why do I need weapons when I prefer to run away and even when I have to fight, I can shoot magic from my hand?"

May huhs. "Fair question. I guess unless you know any point-blank powers, chances are you will want a weapon for just in case someone comes up to your face?"

Bethany does not have a single non-ranged power. She doesn't know this, though. "To be honest... I don't know what all I can do yet."

Re: Heroes Guild Log 21

Terdisas was only making vague guesswork about the 'Sorcerer' tag, but if anyone could legitimately make that assumption it would be another (single class) Sorcerer.  Though if Terdisas didn't pick up the 'Sorcerer Ranged attacks can be turned into Sorcerer Melee attacks Via Daggers' feat, he really wouldn't expect Bethany to have either.  "While the more common ones do not offer a particular efficiency over your empty hands, it is good to get into practice for if you ever take up a more noteworthy implement.  Not to mention a staff can double as a walking stick, and a dagger can see more use as a tool than a weapon."

"Tweet, Bossman was lucky he only burned his eyebrows off the one time when figuring out his gig."  Terdisas succeeds on his 'save vs facepalm' check.

Re: Heroes Guild Log 21

May, meanwhile, browses other weaponry. "Hmm..." she picks up a broadsword and swings it around a few times. "Nice." picks up a throwing hammer, flips it, catches it, swings it like she's hammering something. She frowns and nods. "Nice." then picks up a fire stoker and pretends to stab as she begins swinging it about. "What an odd weapon..."

The shopkeeper says, "Um... that's a fire stoker."

May looks embarrassed and puts it back. "Right! Well.. um... I don't think my enemies would see THAT coming.... but it's a bit heavy to tote around for the lack of balance it has for such..."

Bethany says, "So it's used to hurt fires?"

May looks at Beth a few seconds. Then looks at Terdisas. "You weren't kidding about innocent. I wonder what gives."

Re: Heroes Guild Log 21

According to Discworld Logic, a fire stoker is a wonderful choice of weapon for dealing with closet monsters and similar.  But that's merely a coincidental reference in this case.  "I suppose it would be impractical to carry heated coals to make it red hot before each fight." There is also that traditional cliche when it comes to them, ow.

He turns to Bethany and says "It is more traditionally used to move around the parts of the fire as it burns, as you can not safely use your bare hands to do such."  Not unless you have fire resistance, or mage hand, or some form of small object telekenesis, or etc.

Superbird wingflaps, "Chirp, You were just treating it like a weapon May, how did you think she'd take it? Duh."

May rubs behind her head. "Yeah... but you don't hurt fire with solid weapons. And... she's human. She's supposed to know humany things. Right?"

Terdisas shrugs, "By her own admission, Bethany can not remember beyond shortly before her kidnapping." He turns to Bethany and asks "Speaking of which, I do not suppose with a good night's rest anything else has come to you?"

Superbird looks to Terdisas, "Tweet, what was it they said about making assumptions again?"  "Nothing I would care to repeat." he answers.  "Well Bethany, unless you feel it would be important to let us know now, we can wait until we finish having a pleasant outing to inquire on such matters."

Bethany says, "I can talk about anything you like."

May grins. "Well... how about things you like? What do you enjoy?"

Bethany gets an excited look on her face and says, "Moving around! Smelling the air! Tasting food!" she reaches to pet May's hair and then some of May's face. Then reaches to do the same to Terdisas. "Touching, feeling texture..."

She seems to mean it. She gives both May and Terdisas an overjoyed look as she touches them.

Terdisas's hair, competing with May's for examples of DnD Hair Care Products picture examples.  Fortunately, the Sorcerer avoids fingers up the nose with Bethany's poking.  "I somehow doubt a sheltered life would be the full or proper explanation for such enthusiasm.  Though it is pleasing to see your mood improved and things going well for you."

May is blushing from being touched like that. "So... why so excited? I mean.. you said you remember stuff, but you act like someone new to the world."

Bethany says, "That's because I am new to the world!"

Superbird says "Tweet, yeah.  Raise your wing if you see where this is going."  Superbird wing raises.  Terdisas says "And what about those who have no wings."  "Tweet, you're out of luck that's what."

The sorcerer comments "Before you came to experience the world then, what were you doing before then, if anything?"

Bethany answers, "I was part of the world. I used to be an enchanted woods. But I gained self awareness and decided I wanted to experience the world just like you."

May is silent as she stares at Bethany. She isn't sure whether to believe her or not.

Terdisas has read about weirder things, though this is up there on things that are weird and don't try to kill you.  "Hmm, what happened to those woods now that you are here though?"  Also, raise your hand if you've ever heard of a nice enchanted woods that wasn't part of a children's cartoon... And even those were outnumbered by the creepy ones.

You'd think Those Ewoks would find better real estate, but its a FOREST moon, there are probably a zillion creepy woods.

Superbird wingflaps. "Tweet, so there are a bunch of trees missing no longer where they used to be now?"  Quite possibly you crazy bird.   "Mostly logistical reasons, really.  But then theories on conservation of energy and mass have widely been disproven."

May doesn't think past "woods turned into a person". Too much effort.

Bethany says, "Chirp! The tress, the dirt they were rooted in, the grass, the flowing streams.. the only things that didn't come with me were the animals. I told them to find a new home so I could move. They obeyed."

Terisas considers this, "I do not suppose if we showed you a map, that where you used to be could be pointed out.  Though that can be done some other time.  For now, why don't we continue our outing.  Bethany can always answer questions later, after all."  Yeah, what if even in Greyhawk they stop serving the lunch menu items at a certain time maaaan?!

May goes with the two to have lunch, smiling endearingly at her freshly bought weapons. "I am going to have so much fun testing these beauties out." she kisses one.

Bethany smiles and says, "I could point it out, yes. What other stuff are you curious of?"

Terdisas comments, "I believe asking 'everything' would be taken in the literal sense here.  Although unfortunately, nothing further specifically comes to mind.  Was there anything else you'd like to know instead, although I do ask you refrain from face grabs until we are done eating."  Harder to eat with someone else's hands in your face after all.

Bethany answers, "Heehee... you sound like me! I mean, I wanna know everything too!"

May says, "Well for now, we enjoy food." May proceeds to go on about her new weapons, keeping Bethany MOSTLY busy with random facts on the weapons. May has no clue on the history of most weapons, but she sure knows what she's talking about when mentioning their uses.

Re: Heroes Guild Log 21

Since May is less knowledgeable about the history of weapons, this means he refrains from asking if she knew at what point, and what the cause was, that Rapiers stopped being considered 'Superior' swords.

"Many people wish to know everything.  Of course, may people think, or at least act like they know everything as well.  Alas, none of us do."
