Re: For SCIENCE!

Well, it looks like Ms. Frizzle's bus was starting to have some competition after all.  "I know 'up' is a matter of perspective without gravity, though some labeled 'this end up' arrows would definitely be handy before the gravity kicks back in."

Re: For SCIENCE!

Joe finds the whole 'stand sideways with Laser Tag gun held at shoulder height' gimmick a bit less useful in zero gravity than standard issue poor lighting laser tag arenas.  It fails even at step one, as 'standing' is a bit more tricky right now.  "How long have you been working on this thing anyways?"

Re: For SCIENCE!

Rather suddenly, gravity returns, sending Cave and the two kids falling to the floor. A couple men in black suits enter the room. "Sir. Come with us." Cave looks at them and nods. Then looks at the kids. "....hey, kids, you need to come with me. This is an emergency." Liberty nods and follows.

Re: For SCIENCE!

Joe is finding this science museum to be more and more crazy and worth moments of paranoia all the time.  "So, with or without the suits then?"  Joe doubts these guys are here about complaints over food court pricings or giftshops having lame items for sale.

Re: For SCIENCE!

Cave says, "No time for that right now. Come!"

Presuming Joe follows, Cave leads him and Liberty off through the halls and into some super science-y looking room. Sci-fi you might say. "Quick! Into here!" Cave says as he beckons to some circular opening in the wall. Inside is a seat and a control panel.

Re: For SCIENCE!

If this all ends with it turning out to be an elaborate simulation to freak children out for SCIENCE, Joe plans to kick Johnson in the Johnson.  If it turns out to be a real situation, refer to previous plan because yeesh they are just grade schoolers.

Joe may possibly have some anger management problems.  But at least he never planned to burn someone's house down with lemons.

Either way, Joe isn't ditching Liberty, so follows along and comments on sight of the controls "I somehow doubt playing Freelancer to the point of universe altering game mods really qualifies me for any of this."  Man that game had some ridiculous mods.  Shooting down Babylon 5 shadow cruisers with an X-Wing was just the tip of that iceberg.

Re: For SCIENCE!

Cave closes the door with the kids on the inside of the pod and Cave on the outside. The pod then jets off, shooting the children into the sky. Liberty screams for a brief moment. Then says, "I hope this thing is on auto-pilot or something!" as the pod seems to be just going higher in the sky. There are windows, so Liberty and Joe can see the science center below shrinking. And then the entire bay kind of shrinking. Yeah, they are going up higher. And higher.

Re: For SCIENCE!

Oh, good.  they didn't get crushed into the floor by G-forces.  "...Oh my God.  I can't believe it.  My dad actually did something reasonable."  Yes, Joe's father had written in 'unless you launch my son into space or something' on the permission slip... What, admitting his dad's lunacy was a good thing is WAY more shocking than being launched into space out of nowhere.

Re: For SCIENCE!

Liberty isn't feeling so brave at the moment. She reaches to cling to Joe. "Omigoshomigoshomigoshomigosh.. ok... ok.. breathe..." she is calming herself down anyway. But yeah... clouds are passed. And again. And the view of the land below is slowly becoming a view of the world below.

Re: For SCIENCE!

Gently hugs Liberty back, glad the mini spacesuits offer some slight padding against freaked out panic crushing grip.  "I think this is where in a movie the incredulous knowitall says this cant possibly happening, kicks open the door and gets sucked out the airlock.  Considering we just came from indoor zero gravity, I don't think either of us will be trying that."

Besides, just like a Choose your own adventure book, it will only turn out to be a simulation in the end if you go along with it.  Just like how if you try to stop the mad scientists responsible early it turns out they are innocent.

That sort of shenanigans always made any guilt about cheating in those books nonexistent to Joe.

Liberty says, "Well neither of us are knowitalls... right?" she then looks at the controls. "...and in the storybooks, the child characters are able to figure out advanced technological controls too..." her grip in Joe is loosening.

"Reading labels can be helpful like that, provided there are any."  Joe's playing at genre savvy only expects bad things to happen to him, and never expects the convenient cliches to turn up.  Because the universe is a spiteful so and so.

"I suppose at the very least we may as well use the seats.  Sitting on the floor could get old."

Re: For SCIENCE!

Sadly, only one seat. But it IS sized for an adult. Libery gets into the seat and tries leaving room for Joe. "Computer! Are you voice command?" the computer then answers in a woman's voice, "If I was voice command, why are there controls?"

Re: For SCIENCE!

Joe will let Liberty have the seat to herself for now, considering seatbelts are not exactly saftey designed for more than one person.  "Because people like buttons and it's hard to give voice commands when screaming in panic.  Why are we here and where are we going, please."  As an afterthought, he asks "And what do you do the beyond answering our stupid questions."

Re: For SCIENCE!

The computer says, "I am designed to navigate. That said, your questions have been perfect thus far. We are going to Moon Base Theta to provide you two with some defensive measures."

Liberty says, "Defensive measures? Against what?"

The computer says, "The Russians. They sent some men to infiltrate the Science Museum to steal some of Cave Johnson's technology. You were involved with some of the technology, which you are wearing. But that is outdated, so I am taking you to a base where you will be getting upgraded suits."

Re: For SCIENCE!

Joe, with an effort of will manages to refrain from a Flat What statement.  Industrial espionage.  His mother would be so proud (provided he didn't screw up).  "So, just what exactly will these new suits do... And why are children's sizes apparently ready and waiting on a moon base in case of Russians.  Is it because we make smaller targets?"  Ah, bitter practicality.  It holds the potential answer to so many questions.

Re: For SCIENCE!

The computer responds, "It is all sizes. You will understand why when we arrive, which will be soon."

Liberty is gazing out the window. "...Earth sure is beautiful from this view..." then suddenly, the Earth's shrinking happens a bit faster.

The computer says, "We are almost at our destination." as the pod goes to park at a space station that is in orbit around the moon.

Liberty says, "...wait, there are moon bases? Since when?" as her round-of-posts delayed reaction kicks in. The computer says, "Since 1988."

Re: For SCIENCE!

Has identified his character theme. 'I am annoyed with all this cool stuff happening'.  To be fair, at lest it's a calmer mindset than his player would likely have if suddenly in a situation where the Russians are after him for vague technology and hurled into space.

"Any progress on Mars, or is that one actually still just planning stages?"

Re: For SCIENCE!

The computer answers while the pod docks, "Mars has bases." the door opens. "Please follow the glowing arrows on the ground."

Libery gets out of the pod and begins following the arrows as instructed. The arrows lead to a dead end where there is a door. The same voice is heard coming over the comm of the base. "Please remove the suits. And, if you wish for your clothing to stay in tact, remove that as well."

Liberty says, "Say what? Why?"

The computer says, "So that the new suit can be put on."

Liberty says, "What about privacy?"

The computer says, "You can look away from each other if you wish for privacy."

Joe's player just now noticed the Bio line for Liberty, which is funny considering his previous narrative comments regarding anger management.

Either way, Joe goes through the suiting up without having your outfit and wallet disintegrate process once it's his turn.

Re: For SCIENCE!

Joe would experience the suit being literally spray-painted onto him and then a bubble just forms around his head. Wait... he has a wallet? Narrative goes aside to note Joe is possibly the "cool" kid then since most kids that age tend to not carry wallets. ;)

Once the two are reunited, they are both now wearing skin-tight grey suits. Liberty examines Joe. "Unreal... we're living a science fiction film."

Re: For SCIENCE!

Is probably a secretly cool kid then because he tends not to announce HEY I HAVE A WALLET.  As this is a good way to get people to want what is in said wallet.

"That or one of the more obscure alternative history books, which hate getting called science fiction even though that's basically what they are.  Still, got a soft spot for the bubble helmet style for some reason."  right up there with not having any trouble breathing in space for how soft the 'science' in science fiction tends to be where they show up.

Of course there tend to be more rayguns to go along with them, so it evens out.
