Re: D&D: Halthern

Alexis ohs and says, "Gosh... that's... is he OK?"

Regardless of answer, though, she got in the boat with Joe and did, in fact, partake in driving when given the chance. She's still a kid, after all, and finds all the "grown ups only" tasks to be neat, interesting and desirable for making her feel big.

"He's fine now.  apparently he eventually build a bridge made of coconuts to the mainland... I didn't ask for the mechanics behind that."  Joe's life is strange and frequented by strange people... Well, Alexis seems more of an example of Normalcy anyawys.

Alexis nods and says, "Well this is nice and relaxing. I like rowing in the river back home. I'll be sure to take you in a row boat."

(OOC: Had the name "Alexis" in the ctrl+c memory, but have been working on that game maker tutorial. Had to show you what Alexis's name COULD have been...)

"That would be nice, just because you've done something already doesn't mean doing it again wouldn't be enjoyable."  Level up?  Meh, I've already one that before.

"It's still gonna be a while before I ever have enough to open a water park though."   oooh, look at Ebberon with it's fancy magic trains.  DnD Water slides would be so much better maaaaan!

Alexis giggles. "Yeah..." she leans on Joe with a smile. "Know anything on fishing?" Other than it's EVIL because you are attacking nature's creatures?! ...ok, so Alexis isn't that kind of elf.

(OOC: Speaking of water park, never did get to finish building Emerald's theme park in that old DBZ MUCK. I had it drawn, ready and... dead MUCK.)

"Enough to get by when it's the most convenient source of food...  And that I left my fishing stuff with most of my travel gear back at my room.  I don't really have 'punch fish out of the water' down."

Now, STAB fish, sure... but so far he's only got 'stab' right and not 'out of the water' quite handled.  Maybe if he used a trident instead of a dagger?  But he's going to skip that for now.

Alexis ohs... "Maybe next time. Like at my village." soon, the two arrive back at the dock and dock the boat. Alexis looks and sees the market not far. "What is that?" she points as she asks.

Joe comments, "The Market, stores and stalls selling goods and stuff.  Is this the first town past home you've visited then?  It's one of the things that tends to show up in most of them."  Though, he does take a closer look in case there are any noteworthy things for sale in this batch.

Alexis says, "Only sort of. I visited a few other places, but always had years between each visit. This is my first time really exploring and learning all about the places I'm going."

The market is selling the usual goods. Some leatherwork, some glass work, mostly clothing or exotic materials. Some skins. So on.

Re: D&D: Halthern

Joe nods.  Alexis must not have made many trips then if she's 12 years old.  "Well, simple pretty much.  Like at the Inn and boat rental, you pay for stuff then get stuff.  Though part of the draw is it seems markets don't seem to be quite exactly the same, so you wonder what's different."

Or if there is a detonating smoothie stand this time.  Maybe the world isn't ready for steampunk blenders?

Alexis has not made many trips. This is true. At least, 12-year old Alexis in this setting. :) "Oh. Well I definitely wonder what's different since it's all different... show me around the market?"

Re: D&D: Halthern

Joe's less of a crankypants in this setting, so we see your 'not very old' and raise you more incredulous character variants!...  Man, what happened to Darkthornes?  Talk to your friends and family about Cynical overload today.

"Sure, I still need to buy some extra rations anyway before I leave as it is."  Joe always checks every shop in markets now, ever since he heard about that Devon guy who had to make several days long round trips to and from a market to deal with fetch quests.

What am I gonna do with five zebra skins? *days later*  Oh son of a *censored*

Re: D&D: Halthern

Most of the market is clothing and fabric. But some of it us potions, metal works, gadgets (such as grapples), leather works, art (from paintings to wood carvings), and misc stuff. Some are even what amounts to the medieval version of yard sales.

Alexis follows Joe's lead to whichever he wants to hit first and why.

Re: D&D: Halthern

Joe laments the fact anti-poison potions don't seem to exist in 4th Ed Mechanics land for sale.  Sure, there are many kinds of ongoing Damage, but poison seems both the most frequently caused to you, and most frequently the sort of thing enemies are immune to anyways.

"...Potion of Mint breath?  That would sound tempting if it wasn't for the fact it apparently takes an entire potion for the result."  Those don't exist in 4th ed either. But we thought it was funny.

Re: D&D: Halthern

Alexis huhs. She breaths onto her hand and sniffs the breath that's coming back to her. "I'll be curious what other flavors they have..."

Fun fact: Tim's pony character Strawberry actually smells like Strawberry Quick!

Re: D&D: Halthern

More flavors than are practical.  The Gruel Potion isn't a good seller, imagine that.

On the more practical side of things, is a guy selling fountain pens.  "Cheaper than Eternal Chalk!"  "Eternal Chalk can write on walls."  "I'm so sorry that my product does not promote vandalism."

OOC Style: She smells like 'Oh God I've got Pin flavor powder in my sinuses!'... Not that this ever happed to me.

Now, sneezing your Birthday cake into your brain... that's another thing altogether -.-

Alexis goes with apple flavor. Then spritzes her mouth so she breathes apple flavoring! :) "I like it!" she half-squeals. Then when the pens are advertised, she asks to try them or see them demonstrated.

The salesman nods, and draws a quick doodle of a Bunny on their demonstration paper.  Other prior doodles include a Dinosaur eating a sandwich, and man with swords for hands and axes for feet drawn previously by a small child.

"Ink sold separately, of course.  Erasable ink is a work in progress."  Joe does get one for himself, at least.

Alexis awwws at the bunny. "Throw in the bunny and I'll buy the pen and some ink refills!" Regardless, she does buy a pen and moves on to the next thing with Joe.

The salesman throws in the whole sheet of paper, what a bargain!  Joe moves on to the boring task of buying spare rations.  That out of the way, Joe asks Alexis "Was there anything in particular you were hoping to find?  Or should we move on."

Re: D&D: Halthern

Joe asked mostly because his player is running out of ideas, admittedly.  "Well, there's that guy making cheap caricature woodcuts of people's heads."  Hey, you try making more detail than a bobble head for a cheap sales price and 5 minutes or less crafting time!

Re: D&D: Halthern

Alexis explores the market with Joe for a bit, picking up a few things along the way. It gets late, though, and the little elf is wearing a human commoner's dress (Like this one: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_fnqv...0/medieval-dress.jpg ) since it has such a clear distinction of human style (elvish dress being anything from made of leaves to being downright embroidery-happy and shiny) The girl doesn't have a rack to show off with such a dress, but children wear similar dresses, so it's more like that. Leather-wise, she bought a nice little hip-pouch to hold small nick-nacks in. Alexis yawns as she arrives at the Inn.

Re: D&D: Halthern

Joe is dressed entirely generically.  Hey, sometimes that works out for the best when you are one of the zillion classes that uses leather armor.  Keeps people guessing so much, even you forgot what your class is.

"I guess I'll see you tomorrow, give or take dinner timing."   Joe, very glad he's got his own room already.  "Hope that the trip around town was at least decent."
