Heroes Guild Log 26 (With Dice!)

It was a dark and stormy night.  Reports of people being more and more frequently attacked at night in the area by horrific monsters had brought some heroes to investigate the disturbance, but so far they haven't found much in the way of clues.

"Well I guess we should head back at this point,"
Lucky sighs, "The rain's getting worse and will make it impossible to see anything.  I just hope no one winds up hurt because I didn't want to get too wet."

Terdisas is only marginally apathetic to the weather.  Sure, lightning resistance.  But he's only got Heroic levels of such, and getting rained on is still a hassle.  "Anyone hurt would likely already be so, regardless of your moisture preference.  Of course, this would also be why we brought closed lanterns instead of torches."

Re: Heroes Guild Log 26 (With Dice!)

Emerald says, "I'm fine with heading back, but only if we make it absolutely CLEAR that nobody is to come this way until the problem has been resolved." she hefts her shield a bit, which she had been using as a makeshift umbrella, looking around and trying to assess the area.

Re: Heroes Guild Log 26 (With Dice!)

The low sound of growling dogs can be heard approaching, but no sign of the beasts yet.  There's something off about their voices.  Something unnatural.

"Uh... well... looks like we've got ourselves some culprits after all," Lucky says, "Or we just happened to be in the path of some hungry animals and this is entirely unrelated."

00:46, Today: Lucky rolled 18 using 1d20+2. init.

"Tweet, Of course it's not dogs.  It's totally gonna be a giant spider because everyone hates dealing with those."  "I would argue with your logic, if it were not true so often."

The nice thing about having a staff as method of choice, it tends to already be out and ready when you are wandering even casually.

Emerald gets to putting her shield on and unsheathing her sword. "Whatever it is, we're going to make it wish it wasn't attacking innocent people on the road."

Re: Heroes Guild Log 26 (With Dice!)

Out from the trees nearby step three big, nasty wolves.  Or maybe just big dogs.  They are foaming at the mouth, barking and growling, approaching slowly.

"Let's stand our ground and defend if attacked," Lucky suggests.

Rarely one to take the first attack.

Readied: Invigorating Assault.  Bonus Temp HP to Emmy assuming she's adjacent at the time.
01:00, Today: Lucky rolled 10 using 1d20+2. gravehound init.

"Any time some supposed wilderness expert claims they are more afraid of us than them, or that they can sense fear and this will make them attack, I must resist the urge to strike them upside the head with my staff and tell them to learn harder."

Readied action, Dragon Frost vs first to rush them.  24 vs Fort.  Yes I'm using RPOL roller.

Re: Heroes Guild Log 26 (With Dice!)

Emerald stands at the ready. "Rabid wolves? Doesn't rabies *kill* the creature who has it?" Then again, rabid wolves might not approach people slowly. Chances are, they'd just charge and skip the drama. So maybe these wolves aren't rabid after all.

The wolves attack!  Two go after Emerald, but one of them is attacked by all three heroes!  It gets blasted back and is unable to complete the attack!  Emerald feels a bit sick when another bites her, but Lucky gets the worst of the attacks!  From the smell and decay, it's now apparent that the wolves are undead!

Re: Heroes Guild Log 26 (With Dice!)

Terdisas fires a spray of frost at the wounded Gravehound, leaving a scattering of frozen rain across his allies and one gravehound now reduced to a shattered pile of frozen meat and bone.

He turns to send another Gravehound flying back, but the shot goes wide.  "Chirp, you hit the far one and missed the close one? Smooth."

Standard: Frostbind, Hits Gravehound 1.:  20 Ice DMG, Without Houserule weakness would have left them at 7 HP.

Action Point: Thunder Slam vs Gravehound 2.  Rolled. A. Three.  Thunder Slam Misses Gravehound 2.

Gravehound 1 HP: T-1000'd.

Re: Heroes Guild Log 26 (With Dice!)

From the same side of the road the wolves came from, a gnoll rushes out and attacks! ....as in attacks the grave hounds? The gnoll is wearing black leather and a cape. She pulls out a sword and swipes at the back of a grave hound, flanking with Emerald! As she does, the grave hound's own shadow rises from the ground and haunts it.

(Free: Assassin's Shroud on Gravehound 2)
(Move: To Gravehound 2, flanking with Emerald)
(Standard: Leaping Shade with CA v Gravehound 2. Hit(27)!)
 dmg: 14 (Rolled max)
 Not invoking shroud.

Gravehound 2 HP: 54 - 14 = 40
