Timothius says, "I'll keep first watch. You know... this is a little exciting. I feel free. Like we're taking a vacation. For the rest of our lives."

Re: Raichel, Timothius, and the Big Hole

The mother gets a happy, proud smile, tearing up, and glomps her boy.  "I'm so proud of you, Timothius!"

She curls up to sleep with Rai.  Sure enough, within a few hours, he hears the rustle of something moving toward his family.

Re: Raichel, Timothius, and the Big Hole

Timothius immediately gets closer to his mom and sister, grabbing a stick and ready to use it. Unless he was instructed to not keep the fire going, he lights the end of his stick on fire.

Re: Raichel, Timothius, and the Big Hole

The moon peeks from behind some clouds illuminating the grasslands.  A large shadow is rustling among the tallgrass.  It's moving slowly, but has the sound of a big critter sniffing.

They wake and ready their weapons.  Into the clearing steps a brown bear!  "I'll hold it off," mom says, "Get Timothius to safety, Raichel."

Re: Raichel, Timothius, and the Big Hole

Timothius says, "You'll what? We should all run..." he follows Raichel obediently, however.

Raichel frowns. "We'll catch the bear from behind. If it wants to mess with mom, it's got something else coming." She leads Tim around the bear, hoping to ambush it once their mom plays "distract the bear"

Re: Raichel, Timothius, and the Big Hole

"NO!  RUN!"

The bear spots the mother and children and attacks the mommy!  Roar!  She jabs at it with her spear but it swats her aside with a mighty swing of it's huge paw.  Raichel spots several arrows sticking out of the bear's flank, and notices that it's so hungry it's ribs are showing from under it's mangy fur.

Re: Raichel, Timothius, and the Big Hole

Raichel WTFs. "Mom! That bear's been starved and angered on purpose! Someone else is after us! If we don't stick together, we're ALL dead!"

Timothius runs over to grab the spear if possible. Maybe using boar hunting techniques will work? "I'll bet it was sent by our tribe's leader!" he says, anger in his voice.

Re: Raichel, Timothius, and the Big Hole

WHOOSH!  STAB!  The bear's paw gets stuck by the spear, splintering it into a hundred pieces, but Timothius is knocked over in the process!  As the bear rears up onto it's hind legs roaring in pain, the mother screams bloody murder, going full on feral!  "RUN I SAID!  IT CAN'T EAT YOU IF IT'S BUSY EATING ME!"  She jumps for the bear's groin and savages at it's sensitive parts!

And it's eyes misted over with pain, boys!  It's eyes misted over with paaain!

Re: Raichel, Timothius, and the Big Hole

Tim sees this, hears what his mom is saying and says, "No! I was forced to watch you and Raichel get hurt before. I'll not be forced to stand by this time! Not even by YOU!"

Raichel says, "Mom's trying to save us this time, Tim! Not trying to invoke your beast! She'll be fine! She can handle a bear!" She grabs at Tim's hand to run off with him. She calls over her shoulder. "NO BEING EATEN! Kill the thing!"

Coming from the opposite direction a robed man wearing a straw hat rushes past at incredible speed!  The mother's screams stop suddenly at the sound of his flying kick thudding loudly against the bear's back, breaking it with an audible snap!

Re: Raichel, Timothius, and the Big Hole

The three of them manage to move it's bulk off their dying mother.

"Please forgive me," he says, taking out a razor sharp kunai knife, "But your mother has no time for me to be polite."

He then cuts away what was left of her shredded hide armor, leaving her bleeding wounds exposed.  He then works fervently to stop the bleeding, giving the children instructions on where to apply pressure while he bandages her.  After some time, he has her bandaged.  By now, the children have noticed that the man is human and has a long white beard.

The kids do as told, not really caring about the whole "naked mom" parts. After all, their mom is dying. And even so, all they can see is blood.

Timothius hadn't even noticed until now. He mews as he sees his own injury. Raichel does as instructed and is careful to do it right, but firm. "Are they both going to be OK?" Raichel asks.

He sits and leans his back against the corpse of the bear.
