Re: Heroes Guild Log 29

Stupid conscience.  How are you going to adjust to the wandering wizard's life if you aren't willing to ram an Acid Arrow into the face of petty muggers Victor?  Or maybe that was just the head trauma and low hitpoints.

Still, fresh water was good.  The vistani heads over, wondering if he can manage to trick his stomach prestidigitationing some water into 'it's totally warm soup, honest'... Probably not, pesky Int/Wis build.

Re: Heroes Guild Log 29

The water is VERY refreshing. While seeing food to go with that water would be preferable to any amount of riches at the moment, seeing riches isn't a bad thing. Inside the spring, Victor can see a classic style Aladin's lamp kind of thing.

Re: Heroes Guild Log 29

Is it classic when something like that is a modern design in this setting?  Would it count as foreign when a mostly western fantasy based setting has things like medusa and you know what whatever, shiny object.

Victor considers Mage handing it up, but he's already got his hands wet and he can dry himself just as easily.  He reaches into the spring to pull it out, wondering if 'oil and water do not mix' would mean enough trapped inside still to make a small fire more easily than trying to use random wood alone.

As a practitioner of the arcane arts, Victor is able to sense the thing is magical.

Re: Heroes Guild Log 29

Maybe it was a lamp of discerning... Wait that was a lantern.  Either way, Victor walks a short ways from the water before drying himself off, and attempting to open up the top to see if there is anything but water inside a bit less carelessly then just seeing what pours out.

Re: Heroes Guild Log 29

When Victor looks inside, the lamp is empty. However, there do seem to be arcane runes inscribed along the inside. Best Victor can figure is it is some kind of binding magic meant to bind something or someone inside the lamp.

Re: Heroes Guild Log 29

Well, that certainly was interesting.  He was uncertain why an oil lamp would be used for such a thing, but he had heard that a snowglobe was once used to trap an evil ancestor's spirit because nothing else was on hand.

Rocko's modern life was a strange cartoon.

So, on the one hand there was his questionable academic curiosity.  On the other hand, attempting to break that seal without even knowing what it was... Yeah.

"Well, not like I have anything better to do."  There were probably worse family sayings.

Level 1 "Doesn't even know disenchant item ritual" arcane learnings Vs mystery artifact, round one. Fight.

A simple rub of the lamp and poof! Out comes a genie. She hovers over the lamp and seems tall-ish (about 6') for a girl. Upon seeing Victor, she says, "Hello, master. What can I do for you today?"

Re: Heroes Guild Log 29

Well, Victor certainly didn't see that result coming.  He takes a moment to collect his thoughts, and defaults to simple.  "Hello, my name is Victor.  I suppose you could start by telling me your name, and why I would possibly deserve to be called master."

He may have left the nomadic Vistani lifestyle behind (for a nomadic lifestyle, the irony has not escaped him), but his upbringing means he's somewhat offput by one so readily referring to anyone as master.

The genie answers with a smile. "My name is Parisa. I am a genie. I am bound to this lamp and anyone who possesses it. Therefor, I am bound to you right now, so you are my master. Until I am somehow freed from the lamp, that is."

"It is probably a vast understatement to say that sounds very inconvenient for you.  Are you allright?  I did discover your lamp at the bottom of a spring after all.  Do you know why you were bound, or submerged for who knows how long?"

After a pause, he adds  "How bothersome are stupid questions to you?"

Parisa says, "I've been asleep for a very long time. It's nice to be up, about, outside and answering questions. I was bound long ago as punishment for talking back to a high-ranking genie."

"You were locked inside an appliance for speaking out of turn...  If not for the fact it would probably end worse for me, I'd want to direct a necrotic ray someplace rather unpleasant to someone like that."

  Sarcasm, a dangerous game.

"Well, while I am unfortunately only in possession of the clothes upon my back, is there anything I can do for you to help?"

Parisa, still levitating, kinda hovers over to sit on Victor's shoulders, bending forward to look at him. "Let's be friends! ...by the way, Victor, as my master, you can ask 3 wishes of me. I can't guarantee I'll be able to grant them, but I can certainly try."

Victor now has a shoulder Genie.  Parisa is the Best Parrot Ever.

Scene cut!  Terdisas looks over to Superbird, Superbird says "Chirp, I'm much more attractive."

Back with Victor and Parisa, Victor decides certainty with a small loss is better than uncertainty.  "I think I would like that, Parisa.  As for wishes, I do not suppose you would be able to answer 'What would be the best wish to make for myself, and best for you' in one go?"

Parisa says, "Well I *could* ask for you to wish me to be free of my prison, but you have to actually want what you wish for. And besides... once I'm free, I won't be able to grant you wishes."

"I suppose 'what's best for me' would be a bit to opinion based for a straight answer.  Though trying to set you free at the end was my intention, I can understand you not believing it till it happens."

He considers his options, "If possible I would like to always be in good health in the face of natural causes.  A better awareness of my surroundings and others intentions would be good as well.  Let's see how those two work out first."

OOC: Starvation, sickness, and old age are lame.  Asking to be immune to stab wounds is just being freedy.

Oh hey I never got around to skill training Insight+Perc at chargen, those would be sweet (so would dark+true vision.  but that might be stretching it).

"No matter what I wish for, with one exception, I will always second guess myself before and after the fact.  So I can wait so long I may never get the chance with you still stuck, or I may get at least something out of it now before freeing you."

Besides, Victor already knows Prestidigitation.  Without having to fight to have a non nerfed version.

Parisa floats off Victor's shoulders and around to be in front of him again. "Please present your wishes in the form of a wish. For example: I wish to always be in good health."

Re: Heroes Guild Log 29

Victor nods,  "I wish to always be in good health.  I wish to have better awareness.  I wish for your freedom."  Depending on the GM, this could end up anywhere between 'Oh cool it worked out' to 'LOL now YOU are the Genie in the lamp!' outer limits style.

Or worse, Parisa's 'freedom' being the release of death or something.

Re: Heroes Guild Log 29

Parisa says, "Granted. Granted. And granted."

With that, she claps her hands and Victor starts noticing he can hear clearer as though his ears had been clogged all his life. It's pretty nice, actually. To hear the trickle of the stream near the spring in such detail while noticing Parisa's skin texture in higher detail somehow. His sight doesn't seem to have changed much, though his ability to pick up on the details of what he's seeing has.

He's still hungry, but noticeably, he's not feeling even half as bad as before.

Re: Heroes Guild Log 29

Not being in impending danger of starvation is wonderful.   He was robbed and hungry, not lost after all.

Of course, freedom was more of a concept than a visual effect (When bars and shackles were not involved, at least).  So Victor says "I will have to take your word for it on the last one, but I am glad to have helped.  Though I can hardly feel noble about it."  After all, he still got something out of it.  Nevermind skipping his own wishes and going straight for Parisa's freedom would be senselessly selfless.

He offers the lamp over, "Would you like this back, or prefer to see it thrown away or dissolved with acid after spending far too much time inside?"

Re: Heroes Guild Log 29

"Not much, a simple thank you is more than enough considering you deserved freedom."  Victor considers the road ahead.  "Although, if it was all right with you I would prefer not to travel alone.  If not just for the company, than the fact it has not turned out so well for me thus far."
