"Apparently the messages of the damned lack a certain sense of self awareness."  "Tweet, what overkill?  Things need to be hit that hard to get the job done at all, chirp."

OOC: Hmm, 39 out of 42 hitpoints...  While some characters would go from there, Terdisas has been knocked to 1 hitpoint at least once per campagin so yeah.  If anything I'm lucky I only need one surge, thanks Callie!

Terdisas HP: 42/42 S 5/6, V 10, AP 0.

Re: Thunderspire Laberynth (part 2)

"Hmm," Mits says, looking at the entrance, "If our past experience has been any indication, I'd say we have at least another half dozen fights ahead of us.  And what I was referring to was the giant super-fast burrowing tentacle monster, ceiling crawling chokers, and an undead for good measure.  And our spanking said monsters in under 30 seconds, admittedly.  But still.  I guess I should be getting used to encountering and obliterating huge enemies with once-a-day spells first thing in the morning by now.  Granted, that was earlier today, so I guess the bronze minotaurs were breakfast, and this is lunch?"

Kitau begins to stealthily scout out the two exits.  She doesn't get far before the spectral figure of a minotaur appears among the heroes and emits a wail of rage and anguish!  Just as suddenly it vanishes.  Kitau stops and stares for a few seconds before continuing to scout ahead.  Mits blink-blinks, looks at the others, and shrugs.  Kitau returns.

"Hall to the south too dark to see.  To the east is a closed door I can't hear past."

Everyone gains 1 AP

Dido says, "I'll take point."

"I shall have to make do without then, though considering those fights the alternative may have been not staying alive long enough to use them later."

OOC: Thanks for the unfortunate but important reminder that new thread not = new day, when it comes to Day spells.  I still woulda used Ice Javelins back there even if I had remembered though cause YEESH.

Re: Thunderspire Laberynth (part 2)

Kitau follows immediately behind Dido, weapons at the ready.  Mits nods.

"I know, right?"

She lights her staff and follows near the rear.

"Depending on how things go, I may have to insist we take an overnight break to recuperate more fully before we get to the worst part of this place.  My foe-to-fairy spell is a coin-toss for how effective it'll be, so we can't really rely on that one to save the day if we run up against a big bad."

The hall ahead bends to the right, but an off-shoot hallway to the left ends in a closed double door.  The sound of a tortured pig can be heard from beyond the door followed by the familiar giggle of hyena.

Re: Thunderspire Laberynth (part 2)

Callie glances up at Mittens with a hopeful expression and says, "Let's hope that if it comes to where we need to rest, that the villains will be so polite as to simply allow us to. You know the saying crime never sleeps, right? I'd love to rest, but I don't know that we'll have such a choice."

Dido says, "And what do you mean coin toss? I remember that spell differently. It worked and it worked well. Are you saying that the spell sometimes fizzles and you can't recuperate it?"

But upon getting close enough to hear the tortured pig, Callie and Dido quiet down. Callie whispers, "Looks like we chose the right path. Maybe we CAN simply rescue the pig and leave so we can rest up."

"I would be pleasantly surprised if it was that simple, but then that would be forgetting what we went through to get here in the first place."  The boar thing wasn't just a sidequest was it?  He has been having surprising trouble tracking their objectives between everything trying to kill them of late.

"So shall I open the door so we can get the violence started?"

If there aren't any objections she'll open it.

Terdisas snaps off a bolt of lightning the moment the doors are open.  Nailing the Hyena that comes into view right in the face while electricity arcs from it to the huntmaster right across from it.

"Hmm, mind our right everyone.  Whatever is over there is worth shooting."  Some days, being a storm sorcerer felt more like chaos.

Re: Thunderspire Laberynth (part 2)

The walls of this chamber are covered with faded murals that
depict minotaurs in combat. The images show minotaurs fighting
each other, as well as battling demons, dwarves, humans, and
dragonborn. In all the pictures, the minotaurs lack weapons and
armor. They use their horns, teeth, and bare hands to rend their
opponents from head to toe.
A barrier of hay bales divides the room. In the northern portion
of the room, a large boar is chained to the floor inside a pen.
Arrows jut from the trapped creature, and the floor around it is
covered with splatters of blood. Hyenas encircle the pen, trying to
bite the boar. One by one, the hyenas become aware of your presence
and turn their attention in your direction.

A gnoll from the south shoots at Kitau but misses.  Then a hyena rounds the corner of the giant pig's cage and charges Dido only to slam against his shield!

Terdisas moves up closer to the door for a better view of the room without exposing himself to the Gnolls.  Tweet, Default plan is go. Superbird comments as the Sorcerer does indeed resort to spamming lightning strike.  Still, can't argue with the results.  Especially when it punishes enemies otherwise out of reach for the moment.

Callie steps forward and says, "Their pets may be easy to kill, but maybe the gnolls won't be. We'll see." and with that, she blasts Dido, Kitau, and the two hyenas with holy light. A familiar feeling Dido and Kitau are used to where their weapons feel lighter and easier to control.

Re: Thunderspire Laberynth (part 2)

The hyena to the north rushes around the cage and locks it's jaws down on Kitau's face and neck!  Kitau hardly flinches.  She doesn't even bother turning invisible.  The boar struggles against the chain holding it to the floor, squealing in rage and fear!  One of the gnolls next to Dido switches to a hand axe and attacks!  It hits hard, making sparks fly from Dido's shield, but the paladin is unharmed.  Two arrows bounce harmlessly off his armor from the other two gnolls.  They snarl in frustration.

"Even if he obliges you, Mr Gnoll, I'll pop him back to life! You really SHOULD surrender! Can't you tell when you are hilariously outmatched?!" she isn't saying this with a taunting tone, but almost a tone of "...really? are you THAT stupid?"

With that, she uses her oversized sword to hack a leg off the hyena that's about the be beheaded by Kitau anyway.

In a flurry of speed, Kitau both beheads and bifurcates the hyena, flicking one of the halves into cage where the dire boar promptly begins voraciously tearing through flesh and bone!  She then backflip kicks the severed head at the gnoll that ignored Dido's threat and it whacks him in the chest with a loud thump!  She then turns and walks menacingly toward the others, covered in blood and gore!
