Re: Scales of War: Shadowrift of Umberforge

The body at your feet warps and shifts, the skin turning pale
gray, the eyes growing wide and dark. This is no human
who lies before you!

DC Theydontsay knowledge check, it's a doppleganger!

Grovald swings his thunder sword at May and WHAM!  She gets sent flying back fifteen feet into the area of force spikes.  With another swing of his sword, two javelins of force skewer Raichel and May, pinning them to the ground!

"Fools!  You have no idea with whom you contest!  I am Grovald the Mighty!"

"And WE are the heroes of Overlook! For one so mighty, you haven't really hurt me yet!" May draws a bow and shoots Grovald, nicking his ear! "Make you a deal! When you know you're about to be beaten, get on your knees and we'll not make a mockery of you!"

Raichel is filled with stab wounds. She gets feral like her bro did earlier and shoots lightning, which unfortunately goes wide. Lightning courses all over her body as she winces from the pain.

Kyle buffs May once more, then steps back to be closer to Mittens and Raichel.  He fires his most boring of crossbow attacks at the remaining Assassin, strengthening the two catgirls with Artificer Radiation arcane power.

"I was unaware that mighty meant running away."  Sure, he taunts.  But he's more annoyed the guy is using common sense to go farther away from May feeding him his own kneecaps.
Move: duh.
Minor: Resistive buff May.  +1 ac, can cash in for 4+her surge THP.
Standard: Magic weapon vs assassin. hits.  12 DMG.   Buffs Mittens and Raichel.

Assassin HP: 69-12 = 57 left

Re: Scales of War: Shadowrift of Umberforge

Timothius says, "Be healed, Raichel!" and her wounds close. He then looks at Grovald. "Mighty? Guess we better step up our game then." he raises his staff to the stars and the night sky tears open to shoot down a beam of light on Tim and his allies! The sky closes again and the heroes are all left glowing white.

Apparently, the other times he used this power, the fact it was daytime distracted from the special effects now seen.

The irony is, if the villain hadn't bragged like he did, Tim might not have chosen to use this power. Soon, even in his pride, the villain will see it was kind of stupid to try intimidating these heroes with boasts.

Takes 5 force dmg
Minor: Healing Word on Raichel: 18! +15(surge) = 33
 Everyone gains 4 thp.
Move: Out of dmg area
Standard: Moment of Glory
 Everyone gains resist 5 all.

Timothius HP: 62+4thp - 5 = 61. +4thp
Raichel HP: 26 + 33 = 59 +4thp

"Ohohohoh..." Mits laughs when her bro does his thing, "You guys are soooo done for now!  Thanks Kyle!"

She hurries over to the curtain and conjures a bowling ball with lightning designs on it.

"Bowling for baddies!"

Roll....  WHAM-bounce-WHAM!

"STRIKE!"

"Grovald never knee-What the hells was THAT?!" Grovald screams, staggering back, his eyes widely scanning the sky for more massive beams of holy energy.  He swings his sword, sending two more force javelins at May and Timothius, but only manages to barely graze Timothius.

Timothius seems to be trying something, but winds up rubbing at his eye with his fist like a kitten.

May rushes up and roars like a dragon, the call magically dragging the two over to her! "Timothius is a Cleric! That was his god sending down protection so your attacks don't do much of anything anymore!" She swings and hits the assassin, but Grovald manages to dodge the swing.

Circle of radiance appears.

"Night night."

KERBLAMMO!  The assassin gets blown off his feet and lands face down in the dirt.

Mits then narrates the next exchange.

"'Surrender.'  'No, Ma.  I wunna keep fighting to see if I can do more than scratch them before they humiliate me.'"

Grovald is infuriated by the taunts and slips past May's attack.

"Eat Phantom Spikes, foolish girls!"

Schlink!  The three girls are now standing unharmed on top of several force spikes that suddenly appeared out of the ground!  Grovald stares, jaw agape.

Mittens starts jumping up and down on the spikes.

"'Mittens!  No jumping on the bed!...'  OF SPIKES!  Geronimo!'"

She belly-flops, face-first into the spikes, trying to catch a spike with an open eyeball but natural reflexes force her to close her eye at the last second.  Not that an eyelid would prevent impaled eyeball under normal circumstances.  The spikes vanish and she plops to the ground.

"You said it, May.  I mean... we're pretty amazing, aren't we?  For my next trick, I'll eat a thunder sword."

Turns out it's just an ordinary longsword.

Re: Scales of War: Shadowrift of Umberforge

Timothius smiles from Mittens jumping on the spikes. Because to him, it speaks of her trust in her bro that he won't drop the power before she has fun. But even when the spikes poof, he doesn't drop the power. In case of ambush or whatnot, he keeps the power up.

May, Raichel and Timothius help with dragging bodies inside and tying them up. And gagging them. Timothius, of course, checks their vitals. Tim's power finally drops because it has been about 5 minutes. May says, "That looked fun! Next time, can I be the one to drop on a bed of spikes? I'll even let you swing me by the tail to slam me down on the spikes if you want, Mittens!"

Timothius then gets to waking Grovald.

Once Grovald is awake, May says, "It's true we didn't have any idea who you are. But ultimately, you did have an idea who we are and yet attacked us so we could legitimately kick your butt."

Raichel says, "Granted, we have gotten more powerful since we saved Overlook, but decided against bragging about that power so that weaker foes would throw themselves at us rather than us having to go looking for them."

Re: Scales of War: Shadowrift of Umberforge

Mits sings the sneaky music from Quest for Glory as the group goes about their surreptitious business of avoiding the authorities.  Once inside she cracks her knuckles and conjures an image of a frightened gnoll and says in a mock-gnoll voice,

"'OK!  OK!  I'll talk!  Whatever you want to know!  The prisoners are just around the corner and down the stairs at the end of the hall!'  Not too widely known about us is that we are experienced interrogators.  You can resist and find out why even gnolls spill their guts to us, or you can answer our questions truthfully and spare yourself the knowledge of why so many would rather die than be captured alive by us.  You see, we already know a lot about you.  We know you're no priest of Erathis.  We know you're working for the General.  We know that you're part of conspiracy to replace the city's clergy.  So let's start with the basics.  Where did you bury Haelyn?"

Grovald gulps.  "I'd heard rumors about you all.  I had no idea..."

He pauses, eyes darting about, trying to think of a good lie but then sinks, the last of his hopes crushed.  "She's buried near the fountain."

"Buried within arms reach of where you stay, really?"  He asks as he sorts through bottles and vials in his pack.

"Even if you were unwilling to risk taking the body elsewhere in a Dwarven city" More rock than dirt, after all.   "Ensuring there are not even remains left is quite simple, though I can understand why most would not think the convenience worth the expense."

May says, "The rumors? I'd be curious to know what evil people say about us that you decided to not believe..."

Raichel says, "OK. One question down. Why replace the clergy?"
