01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Sharaelaes os shalyl (Whatever your background)
Shaesaelaes o tasti thys (Wherever you came from)
Shylaes o eisi (Whoever you are)
Sharaelaes o shaesi shys eir (Whatever you were born as)

Byli os sar taraes byrn (None of that matters now)
Shor paer eir os tystyl aelaestia (With death as your common enemy)
Si Thi shyr o eir cali (The Fey blood you all have)
Air byrn maer, modi shia modi (Is now shed, side by side)

Sher or os sor eirdeir (But out of this abyss)
O shor eir vori; shys eilaern (You will all rise; born anew)
Shori aelyl sai thysoli (Wise enough to forgive)
Shori aelyl sai aestali os col (Wise enough to embrace your kin)

Each of you has a piece of this ancient manuscript. None of you knows the author or how far back it dates. And none of you have put these pieces together into the whole one above just yet.

Each of you separately found an obelisk with runes on it and when you touched it, you had a falling sensation. But you now find yourselves in a very dark place. The only lighting here is the sunrod you had to ignite to see anything at all. Having done so, you can see the cave-like area you are in.... as well as each other. Most noticeable, of course, is the fact a Drow is present. In this low amount of light, it wasn't picked up on immediately, but her white hair kind of gave it away.

Points of note:

Very nice Common-to-Elven translator (used it for the above text):
http://www.screwytruths.com/Elvish.html

-Arvandor: The elven afterlife. This place once belonged to the gods of the giants before the elven pantheon came and claimed it, wanting a home of their own. Still riddled with ruins of the old giant gods' dwellings, this place is lush with deep forests, groves, and Fey beauty. It is paradise to any elf, fey, and even to many a human. All who have elf blood long for a place like this to some degree, but it is the destination of those who truly want it and worship its ruling pantheon; The Seldarine. Arvandor is not an entire plane in and of itself, but rather a location on the plane of Arborea (or more fully, the Olympian Glades of Arborea).

Elves: Rivaled in diversity only by humans, elves are often misrepresented as all being alike (though in all fairness, elves often fall into the same trap by thinking humans are all alike). Every large group of people has something they share in common. For humans, it's the need for civilization and taming the land. For elves, while they can adapt, they share in common a love of nature and helping preserve it, most times treating nature as their better. There are always exceptions, of course, but this is the general rule. As for how they differ from each other; there are many kinds of subraces of elves. Most of the subraces believe their own race to be the original elves, but all of them share Fey blood in common. The elves are split into the following sub-races:

Aquatic Elf, Arctic Elf, Avariel (aka Winged Elf), Desert Elf, Drow (Drider, Drow, Drow Noble), Eladrin (Llewyrr Elf, Moon Elf, Sun Elf), Elf (Grey Elf, Wild Elf, Wood Elf), Fire Elf, Jungle Elf, and the Half-Elf we all have come to know (called Half-Human by any elf)... which can be descendant from a human and any of the above.

And finally, part of the point of this campaign: Please roll History to see who all of us knows this:

History DC 14: Caelynnvala is a legendary archfey - one of the godlike spirit-avatars of the Feywild. An immortal eladrin noble, she hopes to end the ages·long conflict between drow, eladrin, and elf. To this end, she crafted a set of magic items whose powers define the bond she seeks to forge between the sibling races. Caelynnvala's Boons have a habit of finding their way into the hands of champions who embody the ideal of reconciliation and peace.

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

The Elf pureblood (Likely Wood Elf) in the room eyes the others with dispassionate calm.

"Hello," he says softly, just above a whisper.

In his left hand he grips a stringless bow.  His right hand moves to the gap between the ends and a radiant string and arrow appear.

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

The blond Eladrin has either the most boring overly long wizard's staff you have ever seen, or...   "The reputation of a ten-foot pole is vastly overrated.  Obelisk got tired of the Warlock taking his sweet cautious time.

Though at the sight of nostalgia arrows, he does drop it in favor of pulling out a (not nearly ornate enough) Rod.  What, the woodsy Elf just pulled the fantasy equivalent of pumping a shotgun.

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

The half-human in the room looks around at the others present and looks briefly startled by the drow and then the glowing bow/arrow. She holds her hands up and says, "No need for any weapon brandishing at the moment... but I suspect there will be need of it when we find a way out of this prison cell." She then head-nudges at the gate. "We're locked in here, but that locked gate seems to be the only way out."

The half-human is armed; a sheathed longsword at her hip. She is wearing chainmail on top of some kind of dark brown leather. Functional, but not meant to be eye-catching. She, like the others in the room, has her adventurer's kit.

She speaks up again, "Perhaps introductions are in order? My name is June." a very human name. "What are your names?"

The drow is sitting with her back against the wall and is wearing all black. She has a cloak with a hood, but the hood is currently down (hence the others being able to see her hair). The cloak could be hiding what weapons the drow may have. "My name is Faerema*." she says in a musical, if not cheery tone.

Lerkeeb wonders if Archer has a brother named Baker.  "I am Lerkeeb, I must agree that shooting eachother would probably not get us out of here any faster."  Well, unless someone wanted them to fight for their personal amusement.

He glances across the Elvish sorts, and asks "Has anyone been here longer than the others, or does it matter at this point."

Faerema raises her hand. "I was on my way to the surface world... and then got caught and thrown into this holding cell."

June says, "I got here just moments ago when I touched an obelisk. I had been following clues concerning some ancient elven manuscript I found."

"Same here," Archer tells June, "Touched an obelisk in search of clues about a manuscript.  Arrived just now."

He looks at Lerkeeb. "You?"

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Faerema says, "I have a manuscript too..." she cautiously approaches the others, looking nervous about getting too close. She pulls out a piece of parchment and holds it out, ready to dart away if anyone makes a sudden move.

June says, "Let's all have a look at our manuscripts. This coincidence is too much to overlook."

The pieces glow dimly the closer they get to each other.

"Agreed," archer says, arranging his piece in a way that looks to him like it will match the others.

He then places his down on the floor between the others so they can arrange theirs relative to his.

Once they start glowing,  Lerkeeb can not blame archer for just putting his down and walking away.  As the plot coupon is being put together, he asks Faerema "Who was it that threw you in there then, and for what?"

There are some guesses, but those would fit in better in a more well lit geopraphy.

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Faerema says, "Small, reptilian creatures. They spoke a language I'm not familiar with."

When the pieces are assembled, the parchment becomes whole. It glows bright and then projects and image of a female eladrin. She has brown hair, fairy wings, and wears green to match her opalescent eyes. She says, "The pieces have been assembled. This must mean the conditions were met; At least one elf, one eladrin, and one drow have brought these pieces together. Lay your hands on each others' hands and I will give you a gift."

June's eyes are wide. She had never seen illusory magic before. Faerema's eyes are fixed like a kid who just saw a fudge factory. June leans forward, holding her hand out, above the parchment.

Faerema gulps, looking at the others nervously, but slowly reaches her hand out, putting it on top of June's.

Lerkeeb wonders what the apparition counts June as with such criteria given.  He supposes 'one elf and/or two half elves' would not sound as impressive.

Regardless, the Eladrin adds his hand to the pile.  He refuses to shout go team or summon captain planet however.

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Once all the hands are placed, a key appears. The eladrin lady says, "This is my gift to you: The Key of Elven Unity. It can open any lock, but must be used in certain ways; If one of you uses it, then next time, it needs to be used by another one of you. For example; if the drow uses it, then either the elf or eladrin can use it next. Say you choose eladrin, then only the elf can use it next. Only then can the drow use it again. Magic locks will require you all to turn it at the same time. I have given you what you need to gain the other gifts I have waiting for you. Be sure to find them. And work together."

The eladrin vanishes and the parchment stops glowing. They key looks plain enough.

As archer makes to get them out of there, Lerkeeb says "I suppose we should let June deal with the next Lock, if only to see what happens"  Would it work, would it not work because an 'Elf' was the last to use it, or because the winged vision's speech lacked a troubleshooting FAQ regarding halfbreeds?

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Faerema is silent. She's grateful the others haven't found cause her harm her yet. And she's hoping beyond hope that this key will insure her life.

June says, "No objection here. Allow me to scout ahead, though... there could be danger ahead." she didn't really see much in the way of protective gear on the others, so she's assuming that magic bow or not, the others just can't take a hit like she can.

June walks ahead of the others. "Kobolds.." can be heard from her only for a bunch of screeching nails-on-chalkboard voices to cry bloody murder. With that, June seems to zip to the enemy kobolds so fast, she leaves a blur!

Two kobolds throw things at her and miss.

Faerema then becomes transparent as she hurries towards June.

The two kobolds the group can see flank June and attack! One of them skewers her, but the other one's weapon glances off the chainmail!

June used Speed of Thought!
Slingers attack. Both miss.
Faerema uses Shade Form to become insubstantial, then double-moves to June.
 Stealth check: 26
Skirmishers attack June. One hit(21)! the other misses (11)
 dmg: 6

June HP: 31 - 6 = 25

June says, "Move 'em? Sounds really useful! I'll trust your judgement, Archer!" and with that, she unsheathes her blade and slashes the kobold that Archer just injured!

Faerema seems to have a feint blue aura around her as a result.

Minor: Mark Skirmisher 2.
Standard: War Song Strike v Skirmisher 2. Hit(25)!
 dmg: 8
 Faerema gains 4 thp!

Lerkeeb follows after towards the sounds of combat, coming to a stop a bit behind Archer.   Fortunately as a Fey Pact Warlock, the Eladrin has an affinity for charm spel-

  <draconic>"TASTES LIKE BURNIIIIING!"</draconic>

Causing kobold faces and tongues to spontaneously combust.  Because of course Fey Pact has the only level 1 warlock encounter that deals fire damage.
Move: duh.
Minor: Curse closest, Spear kobold to left of june.
Standard: Witchfire. Hits. Attack+Cuse is 17 Fire/Normal DMG.
No Action: Hellfire Heart. +5 Fire DMG.
22 DMG total.

Effect: Target has -6 to hit until end of my next turn, or Drow Murder ensues.

Late night/early morning edit: Oh right.  I have Concealment (+2 defense) because I've moved enough.  Keep forgetting that Warlock perk.

Kobold HP: ???

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

The two skirmishers stab wildly at June! One barely scrapes her while the other misses entirely.

Faerema suddenly pulls out a wicked-looking oversized dagger... or is it a sword? Either way, she stabs burn-face in the jugular before twirling the weapon in her hand, teleporting behind the other one and slitting his throat. Two enemies down.

The slinger to the north throws a glue pot at June, hitting her right in the butt! The glue quickly hardens and June is stuck in place! The other slinger steps back from Faerema, looking frightened. It tries firing a pot at her, but misses by a wide margin.

Skirmishers attack! One hits for 2 damage.

Standard: Inescapable Blade v Skirmisher 1. Hit(15)!
 dmg: 11
Move: Shadow Step. teleport to flank skirmisher 2 with June.
ACTION POINT!
Standard: Inescapable Blade v Skirmisher 2. Hit(22)!
 dmg: 17

Slingers attack! One hits June for 4 dmg. The other misses Faerema.

June HP: 25 - 2 - 4 = 19 and immobilized (save ends)
Skirmisher 1 HP: 5 - 11 = Dead
Skirmisher 2 HP: 10 - 17 = Dead

Archer fires an arrow at a kobold.  When it hits, the kobold is teleported to be next to June!
