Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Well if we are talking keywords, psychic is different than psionic. We hope.

June recovers after a short rest. The arrow finds its mark and one of the guards is seen examining it. Depending on what is on the note is how the guard reacts. Archer and Lerkeeb can both contribute to what is on the note.

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Archer imagines the minotaurs are full of themselves and their strength.  So he figures the best approach is to pet their egos.

For example: "We are messengers sent by a powerful Minotaur.  We humbly request audience.  One among us is unable to approach your powerful mind barrier."

Archer figures keeping it short and to the point will help prevent confusion.

Lerkeeb's suggestions might have possibly worked, but despite his CHA build were much less diplomatic.

When the minotaurs receive the message, one of them calls out "Reveal yourselves!"

Archer serious nods to his friends then steps out.  Facing the Minotaurs, he salutes with a fist to his heart then bows.

"I am Archer.  Strength and honor to you."

Keeping it short and simple.  He's wearing his best jaded face in hopes of appearing respectable in the eyes of the guards in spite of his lack of bulk.

Lerkeeb is much worse at hiding than Archer would be, so comes out along with him.

"I am Lerkeeb, I am hoping you find the lack of Sun just as concerning."

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

June steps out, but not toward the minotaurs. "I can not come closer, for I am psionic."

Fae lurks out to a different shadow. Technically in the open, but you know...

Both minotaurs give a brief nod to Archer, though his elven perception can spot them puffing their chests ever so slightly. His greeting worked probably way more than is showing.

One of the minotaurs looks at Lerkeeb. "....lack of sun?"

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Archer is relieved to see that not only did the greeting not kick off hostilities, civil conversation is happening.  Time and again experience has been proving that you can't judge a book by it's cover.  Except maybe Gnomes.  They fit their stereotype rather closely.

Archer nods and explains, "The sun god has been captured by the dryder goddess of spiders.  Now, without the sun, no new trees will grow to make weapons from."

Sure they speak Common, but that's no guarantee that "Pelor" or "Lolth" will hold any meaning for these guards.  And it probably wouldn't hurt to remind them why trees and sunshine are important to even cave-dwellers.

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Lerkeeb keeps forgetting to fully follow his cultural sterotype of Eladrin who thinks Eladrin are totally the best at everything.  It's an ongoing problem he's been trying to work on.

"It does have rather concerning ramifications."  Hmm, how would this hit the baking industry?

One of the minotaurs says, "Then we will make our weapons from stone. How are we supposed to do anything about a kidnapped deity?"

June says, "We were informed that Narru contains something that would help with that."

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

"How resourceful," Archer compliments.

He figures from their question that the minotaurs at least are convinced of the inconvenience of a missing sun, so there's no need to belabor the point with talk of inevitable starvation.

"The one who informed us is the powerful Minotaur I mentioned earlier."

No more raisin cookies would be one very likely outcome.

The minotaurs look hesitant, but one says, "One of us will lead you inside. The other of us will stay outside with June. She can not enter, but we can assure no harm come to her."

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Archer wouldn't consider it cowardly by any stretch to avoid confronting a deity.  Nor would he consider it convenient in the least to stand by and die slow as the world freezes over.  Come to think of it, even Lolth and Zehir will have to admit that the death of the whole population will include their own worshipers.  Whatever the case, Archer's not about to muddy the waters with such thoughts and simply nods and follows.

Well, even if they did not trust them it was hardly circumstances that it would make a difference.

"Thank you, for your willingness to allow us entry."  stock pleasantries mean less chance of saying something insulting!

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

The on minotaur stays outside while the other minotaur leads the bunch inside. The inside is very labyrinthine and has many ancient carvings and murals on the walls, floors and even ceilings. He is saying nothing and his footsteps leave a light thud that can be more felt than heard, although the sound seems to echo slightly through the hallways.

Of course, the bunch of elves have light, dainty footsteps that cannot be heard by comparison.

The walk seems to be taking a while and oft has steps that lead down...

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Archer would hate to have to live in such a claustrophobic place.  But then, he imagines that a Minotaur is about as uncomfortable with open sky.  Like a mole forced out of its tunnel.  But he does his best to keep his poker face.  Archer assures himself that should he die down here, maybe that would be for the best.  There's a chance he might get his urgent message to Melora or Corellon sooner that way.

After a bit, the group arrives at a large chamber with a dais at the center, where a key slowly spins, levitating in place.

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Archer stares in grim silence at the magical artifact.  What sort of terrible fate befalls those who touch it that even Minotaurs, renowned for scorning cowardace, leave it float alone above a dais.  No need for guards or a lock box or a hiding place.  It's simply there for the taking.  As are the dire consequences.

He tries to wear a brave face as he slowly steps forward.  "What is this a key to?"

The minotaur shrugs. "Dunno. It is an ancient artifact, said to have so much power that its ability works even on the gods. But without knowing what it does, nobody has bothered to use it."

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

...and then there's that.  Archer once again finds himself with more questions than answers.  Why didn't Bafomet give instructions on how to use the artifact?  Did he not know?  Or is it's power unlocked only by an elf?  Or when the sun does not rise?  As an ancient deific artifact, perhaps it is an intelligent item that only reveals it's secrets to the worthy...

"Likely," Archer answers Lerkeeb, "It could also have a much more metaphoric power."

It unlocks a your hidden super powers!  It is the key to the future!  Who knows.

Archer's at least a little less nervous about touching it.  Likely the Minotaurs would have mentioned any dire consequences by now.  Maybe.  But he doesn't want to insult or appear the coward by asking.

He approaches to take the key, addressing it.  "Noble key of the gods, I am Archer.  Pelor has been captured by Lolth and Zehir.  The mighty one who witnessed this sent me and my allies to recover you to restore the heavens.  Though we are but mortals, our quest is dire.  Your power is needed."

Well, Archer seems to have the purple prose down (nevermind that it's green).  So decides to let them field actually grabbing the key, if it remains awkwardly silent.

The key answers, "I am the Key of Ao. I lock or unlock godhood."

June gives a disbelieving frown.
