Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

The goblin says, "Yes, yes. What do you want?"

June asks, "Why did you attack us?"

The goblin says, "Because you were trespassing. Duh."

"From all appearances the village was open to visitors.  We had no interest in invading a hostile place.  So why no 'Keep out' warnings?"

"Intruders will hardly feel bad about it if you wait until after to tell them, provided there are any survivors."  Stereotypical wood elves, take note.

"How many even bother to 'intrude' upon this place, is it a common problem?"

The goblin shrugs. "Not often. We were told by the boss to watch for intruders and kill 'em."

June asks, "Boss? Who's your boss?"

The goblin says, "Some drow gal by the name of Faerema."

"I wonder if she has any relation to the Drow in our group.  What reason does your boss have for defending this place?  Is this her base or is she elsewhere?"

A shocking betraya-wait a minute.  "Really?  When was the last time you saw your boss then?" He manages to avoid the urge to look up at the treetop Drow.

The goblin says, "Last time I saw her? Pfff.. I've never seen her before. She always gives orders by messenger. Only lone goblins and kobolds are cleared to enter. Until we find out they are not allies. Then we kill 'em."

He then looks at Archer. "Beats me WHY she wants it defended. Just does. And she pays good."

Okay, that's looking a bit less good...  Lacking hard evidence either way sure, but Lerkeeb can't deny his lack of pure trusting Mctrustenheimers.  "No contingency to avoid shooting at your boss if she arrives then?  What do you even have to spend the money on in this place as it is."   Note to self, check for a tavern and it's overflowing lockbox.

The goblin says, "Spend? That's the beauty of it! Not only to we have gold in case we need to relocate, but in the meantime, we don't need to go anywhere. We get paid with food and torture victims!"

He then looks at Archer. "Uh... let's see... there's Grundi, Checker, Gobli, Moringi, Hacker, Kucklu, Mashmash, Goober, and... I think you guys killed Lifkwif and Kenny. Oh right... and there's this guy nobody talks with. Dunno his name."

Archer looks from June to Lerkeeb.

"Not sure what to make of this."

He looks back to the goblin.

"Where is this town in relation to the nearest civilization that wouldn't be hostile toward an elf?"

Snacks and Slaves, how tasteful.  "Some would make of it a problem we could walk away from."  Except, you know, that would still leave an influx of slaves sent apparently by the lady above them.  Though nine more goblins (known of) is quite a bit more than the small handful that had already injured some of them so much.

"I suppose it is a question of how much we want some answers."

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

June seems to be deep in thought when Archer talks at her. She huhs? and looks at him. "Oh. Just thinking."

The goblin says, "Suresure! Yeah! We'd be happy to help... for our freedom."

He looks at Lerkeeb. "....uh... what? Asking the boss to cut it out would be asking for trouble. She'd hang one of us by our toes as an example for questioning her or something."

June glances over her shoulder in the direction of Faerema.

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Archer takes June's answer to mean, "Don't ask," so he returns to the subject at hand.

"Nine remaining goblins.  If what this one says is true.  Assuming we're not being lied to, then yes, we can safely walk away.  Any remaining goblins would likely be too afraid of punishment for abandoning their posts to attempt to hunt us down to avenge their fallen.

"Goblin.  What sorts of torture victims?  Humans?  And where are they being held?"

Archer looks over at Fae.  "Any thoughts on the subject?"

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

(OOC: Rewind. Apparently, while I was imagining Faerema being outside of conversational earshot, you two were imagining her being right there watching the whole thing. I'm going to just retcon she was in earshot. And retcon the goblin replying to Lerkeeb, seeing how Lerkeeb was speaking in ELVEN, dur. So here's what ACTUALLY happens...)

Faerema nods to Lerkeeb and begins writing a note. Then offers it to Lerkeeb. The note clearly says in common, "I am ordering you to cease all hostile activities. Simply observe and report. If you can avoid combat, do so. Signed, Faerema."

(This is in addition to June saying "just thinking" and the goblin saying "suresure!")

When Archer asks Fae her opinion, she says, "We should find out if they have any notes of this Faerema. If so, we can compare it to my handwriting."

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Lerkeeb wants to think this is a clever plan of his, but looking at it now he can't help but thing how silly it is.  "Right, what is your opinion on this matter... Whatever your name was."  It's not the RL gap between posts, the Eladrin simply did not care enough to remember their captive's name even if stated.

"Got all that?  Location and race of prisoners, location of written note from Faereema, and your opinion."

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

The goblin says, "Let's see.. torture victims in the fun chamber." he points at one of the buildings. "There are two humans and a harpy." He then looks at the building he came from. "Written note is in there. Desk, near front door." then he looks back at Archer. "My opinion? I don't like being a prisoner. I like torturing the torture victims. I don't want the arrangement to end, but I value my life and freedom too much to be stupid about it. What else do you want my opinion on?"

June says, "We should check on the victims..." and starts for the "fun chamber".

"Gee, I wonder which victim screamed the loudest?" Lerkeeb, your Unaligned is showing.

The warlock will follow along with June, even if she is tougher than him going along into a town full of goblins that do not know of their 'new orders' yet, or may not be agreeable to them would not be a good thing.

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Archer is losing his cool.  At mention of a "fun" chamber, his eye twitches.  He gags and knocks out the prisoner before following June.

"Bear in mind everything he told us could be a lie.  He may have pointed us directly into a trap."

He checks to see if Fae is coming with the rest of the group.  He then ponders the best way to  prevent the prisoner from ever torturing again that isn't technically killing him.  Remove hands?  No.  He'll just torture with hook hands.  Feet?  Stand on peg legs.

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

Faerema follows the group, looking worried.

It's a short distance (Like the distance from a farmer's home to his barn). When the group gets there and opens the doors, the building seems to be just like a barn. Chained to the far-end wall are 2 humans and 1 harpy like the goblin said. All 3 are stripped completely bare, are beat up, cut up, and just look like a mess. Upon closer inspection, one of the humans is dead.

Re: 01 Destined of Arvandor: Odd Kinship

"I suppose in hindsight, locating the keys first would have been helpful." He suspects that while simply breaking the chains would be possible, the captives may not appreciate 'hold still while I shoot in your direction' if it turns out Faerema did not pick up thievery.

One less person to rescue, at least?
