May says, "But I'll be keeping its attention. Hmm... maybe I should put the feystep lacings on for this fight?"

Tim nods to May.

Raichel then looks at Kyle. "Worse than dragons how?"

Timothius says, "Powers for messing around with your mind."

Raichel asks, "How do we avoid that?"

"Certain magic items?" Mits answers Rai, "Beyond that, if we can get the behir to eat the beholder...  Honestly, I'm not expecting this to be any worse than what we've dealt with before.  So let's just kick the door in and stomp 'em like we always do.  We've got an exarch to humiliate."

  "Well, knowing you all it really will be having to hit it more than average to kill it that's the primary issue, yes."

  But yes, operation 'What's subtlety?' sounds good about now.

Ascending the natural stairs in the cave complex, you enter
a large cavern dotted with stalagmites here and there. A
ledge, about 10 feet off the ground, is ahead of you. The
climb looks a bit slick. Farther past that ledge to the extreme
south of the cavern, another ledge offers a similar climb. A
tunnel heads farther south.

You can see that there’s something moving behind
one of the stalagmites near you . . . something big.

The group attacks!

"Hey!  That hurt!  I'm gunna eat you for that!"

CHOMP!  May gets eaten in one big gulp!

The beholder blinks in surprise.  <deep speech>"You just ate a live threat, weapons and all.  Idiot."<deep speech>

The beholder sighs and headshakes.

Timothius tries to use his famous spirit-breaker power, but the Behir clearly is too preoccupied to be effected.

ZAAAAAP! For the first time in its life, the Behir gets to feel pain from lightning. The beholder gets the worse zap, though. Flying types are weak to electric types, after all.

  Kyle steps up besides Raichel, and hurls a (now enchanted) Sahuagin javelin at the beholder.  It's a solid hit... for Kyle, which means it just causes some mild eye irritation to the beholder (you don't get by as a giant eyeball monster very long if your eyeball isn't manly).

  Still, trace Artificer energy means whoever gets hit by Raichel in the next ten seconds is gonna feel it a bit more.

The behir roars in pain!

<deep speech>"!#$%^! that hurt!!"<deep speech> the beholder shrieks!

It zaps Rai with three ice rays, one of them hitting her in the face!  But she doesn't look very hurt.

<deep speech>"..."<deep speech>

"You tasted bad anyway," the behir huffs.

STOMP!  It creates a mini-quake, knocking Timothius and Raichel down.

To Rai it says, "I'm gunna pick you apart bone by bone like I did the sailors I feasted on earlier!"

Then it chomps at Timothius!  But May's attack distracts it juust enough that the kitty is able to roll out of the way of the bite!

Timothius says, "Looks like the Behir needs to be taken down asap."

He stands up and upon hearing the Behir's braggings, appears to be so angry, he is unable to do anything. His eyes become black pits, and rather than a radiant target on the Behir, a dark swirl appears on it.

Raichel break-dance stands. "Think you've got me stuck, eh?"

Her palm begins to blur before she slams it into the Behir, making it implode. Just as the Behir appears 10' up and to the south a bit, Raichel vanishes and reappears in front of the Beholder. "Think again."

Frizap!  It electrocutes the heroes then snaps at Mits but misses!

The beholder face-eyestalks and slinks away in embarrassment.  <deep speech>"Such an idiot."<deep speech>

Mits stomps a familiar target onto the floor and little wavy black hands start rising out of it, grabbing at the behir.

"Normally I would offer that you should surrender..."

She steps away, dodging the provoked bite, May whacking it for the attempt.  Mittens headshakes, tisking.

"But honestly, I think I'd be wasting my breath."

She tosses a bright ball of energy up and it kersplodes!

Raichel heads to the west, the Behir already forgetting the threat of May, chomps at Rai, but gets hit HARD by May while Raichel tumbles into place and stabs the bahir in the eye with the tip of her staff. "Funny. Looks like your the one in danger of being bone picked at this point."

The beholder zaps Mittens, immobilizing her.  It also zaps Kyle.  It then starts floating toward the far corner of the room.

The behir is overwhelmed.  "Gah!  Don't leave me here with them!"

It tries to flee in the direction the beholder went, but May stops it in its tracks!

"Stopthatstopthatstopthat!" it tantrums, knocking May down!

Timothius "wakes up" from his black-eyed slumber and seems back to normal before walking over to the behir's rear end. "Oh behir... there's a nice, tasty cat boy behind you. Eat me. You know you want to."

But the behir has learned by now how hard May hits and is frantically attacking like a child who realizes it has no way out and all it can do is vent frustration. Tim shrugs and slaps a seal on it. "Have fun. Lemme know if anyone feels like being healed up."

Raichel spots the beholder fleeing and nearly sets the ice beneath her on fire as she runs towards the beholder and then turns into lightning, zapping right THROUGH him. "I've got the beholder!"

Once again, the beholder has a Raichel in its face.

"Guess so!" May calls out to Kyle's proclamation.

May hops to her feet and hops to the side to flank the behir. "Finally. You realize just what you are up against. Now that you are near dead. You're smarter than most of our enemies. They just don't get it, sometimes even after they were utterly crushed."

Yes. The Int 7 behir seems smart when compared to, say, the death cult that Telicanthus hired. Or when compared to Telicanthus himself. "Remind me to tell Telicanthus we found a behir smarter than him." WHACK!
