Re: The Frozen Wastes

Mittens soo wants to tease Gloria now that she's using the word, "Please," but figures she gets a pass for losing the youngsters she was apparently not too terribly attached to.  Must... mock... something!  Ah!  Bad sorceress.  That's socially acceptable.  A sock puppet wearing a robe covered in random arcane symbols appears on Mittens' hand.

"I am the ice queen!  You shall do my bidding!"

A goblin sock puppet appears on her other hand.

"No way!  You're not the boss of me!"

"ZAP!"

"Ok so now you're the boss of me.  Until you die.  Says so right here in the spell's fine print."

Re: The Frozen Wastes

"As crude as the example is, Mittens is correct. The Queen has through the magic power she stole from me taken control of all the natives of the land, for they have simpler minds and are easy to manipulate." Ivon speaks to Eli "No Gloria is not my child I simply refer to her that way because to me you are all in age still infants in comparison. Though I do think of all those I protect as my children."

Gloria nods to Ivon and looks at Eli "I am a child of the snow."

Ivon elaborates "Some as sad as it may seem do not wish to keep or do not believe they are able to raise their children so they are left to the snow and forgotten. Those who survive, through being found..." Gloria interrupts Ivon "Or in my case being raised by the natives, The Frost Wolfs of these lands raised me until i was found by some of the locals in this town and tough human society. That is a child of the snow."

Re: The Frozen Wastes

Gloria, sweetie, you're 140 in wolf years. It's time to go find a job and your own cave.

"Regardless of how fond you are of those animals, for your parent's sake it would be best that we never find them." This is why you'll never count as lawful good Kyle.  Well, unless you were a sterotypical paladin, then feeding deadbeat parents to wolves would get a pass as 'poetic justice'.

Re: The Frozen Wastes

Eli ohs at Ivon's explaination. He looks sad and upset at the mention of throwing people out into the cold, but gets a hopeful look and a smile when Gloria mentions snow wolves taking her in.

Eli then giggles at yet another puppet show and claps for Mittens.

Eli then looks up at Kyle and says, "I dunno... they might be better off in the safety of the community. But then again, wolves are meant to roam free in the wild... why would it be best we never meet Gloria's parents?"

Re: The Frozen Wastes

Mittens marvels at the fact that apparently she was the only one to pick up on the fact that "The Frost Wolfs" was a tribal name.  Not a canine species.  And that Eli is the only one who enjoys her puppet shows.  ;.;

"Yippedy doo dah!  Yippedy aye!  My oh my what a wonderful day!  Thrillin' adventure's headed my way!  Yippedy doo dah!  Yippedy aye!

"I think Kyle is referring to his inability to turn off his kill-switch.  'I will kill any wolf (or, more likely when referring to 'the natives,' goblin dressed up like a wolf) no matter how much you cry.'  Or somesuch."

"We should prepare for our journey and ready any provisions we need." Ivon suggests.

Gloria nods in agreement "Then you will want to speak to the Bars owner Gwen to acquire lodging, and when you resting place has been settled then the only shop left open would be Mary's. She deals in all trades and the shop doubles as a forge. I will leave it up to your group to decide how we progress."

"It would be wise to gather dried foods that can be eaten without cooking so that we do not draw the attention of the wolves, though I was raised by them I have since lost that feral side and may not be recognized as one of them any more. The determine friend or foe more so by actions gestures and smell than sight." says Gloria.

Re: The Frozen Wastes

Considering how much his comment is spiraling off into the distance interpretation wise, he feels it is probably for the best to not even try and salvage it, beyond one point. "I suppose only half my targets dying doesn't count to those who wish everything trying to murder you survives.  Though I would not be surprised if someone attempting to kill themself rather than surrender is held against me."

He thinks back on the teams who complained that he wasn't kill happy ENOUGH, and as usual wonders why he bothers clarifying.

Oh look, Gloria really did mean literal wolves. Maybe.  Perhaps just really enthusiastic roleplayer trials sorts?  "I have noticed a trend for wildlife to be some of the more dangerous enemies you can face, so avoiding the temptation for them would be wise."

Re: The Frozen Wastes

Eli says, "Well obviously if something or someone tries to kill us, self-defense is in order. But if they are her parents, and we're with her, I don't think they would try."

Once in the tavern, Eli looks around, thankful to be in a place that blocks the wind and has a fireplace so he is a lot warmer.

"Correct," Mittens affirms, "50% kill count, or even 0.0001% kill count still counts as killing.  So one may as well aim for 100% right?"

She heads over to speak to the Bars owner Gwen to acquire lodging.

"Greetings, Gwen!  We were looking for lodging.  Long day of adventure awaits us in the morning what with our plans to go hunt down the sorceress sending the natives to raid this town."

She points to the women next to her "Has been patching up from attacks. There is one adventurer there that made it back if I'm not mistaken, he may be of some help to you."

While Mittens is talking to the bar tender Gloria heads to the table near were Eli and Ivon are by the fire.

"Depending on how badly they are hurt, I may be able to do something about it."  HP? just fine.  NPC specifically stated to have no heal surges? Just fine. Plot damage? Much more tricky.

Eli glances over his shoulder, overhearing Gwen. Her complete lack of faith brings up a question in his mind. He then looks at Ivon. "So this blessing you gave to Mittens, Kyle and I... have you given that to the other adventurers that came here before us?"

Re: The Frozen Wastes

The adventurer pulls himself up on the back of the bed to look at Mittens "So you intend to go as well, I would say don't but I can see in your eyes that you wont listen. The queen, we never even saw her, those damn caves. There are sealed doors, traps, enemy's, and a Dragon that damn dragon it, it ate them all alive...." The adventurer spirals into a sobbing fit and Mittens realizes he will be of no more help than that.

Ivon speaks to Eli "No, it was only recently that I made an attempt to escape the orb that Mordona thought she had sealed me in. I was waiting for someone whose energy and strength I believed able to withstand her forces, and that's when you and your adventuring party appeared. You alone have a massive hidden energy, but even those among you have talent well beyond there years. Fate must have brought you all together."

Re: The Frozen Wastes

OOC: I see Mittens is talking with the patients I was asking about.

How's the injury level?  Artificers are even able to heal 'This has no heal surges' NPCs normally intended to remain low on hitpoints, but plot damage is another matter.

Tim did pass along you were 'so tired Nina's voice was going wonky' to be fair.

Though my luck with roleplay stuff does tend to skew towards getting overlooked when I try to interact with things.  Examples of overlooked actions include 'multistory cyborg fires it's godzilla plasma'.  So I couldn't tell a difference from usual.

OOC you may offer to help those in need and feel free to flavor it they way you wish, the injured are there simply more for theatrics than the main story.

Re: The Frozen Wastes

Kyle may be no cleric when it comes to healing (even if he had gone with /WIS), but Artificers have the edge in healing nameless NPCs.  The fact there is some rest in their near future also lets Kyle avoid asking for healing surge donations after the fact.

"While I should be glad to hear it Ivon, the way you have been talking about it makes it sound like Eli could very well explode if left unchecked.  Likely not the case, but you tend to worry about these things when crafting magical equipment and alchemical mixutres"

Re: The Frozen Wastes

Eli says, "Thanks for the vote of confidence, Ivon."

Eli is visibly disturbed by the description of the adventurers being eaten alive and stares down with a horrified look as he starts weighing his options. A dragon? Can he honestly say he is ready to take down a dragon? Or even be in a team that takes down a dragon?

He's not scared to the point of crying just yet, but he probably will be when they face the dragon.

"Thanks for helping with the heals, Kyle."

She's not sure what to say to the horrified guy or about the massive potential bit.  She opens a holy book of Pelor and reads the grieving man an encouraging passage promising eternal reward to the brave souls who give their lives in defense of the helpless.

Re: The Frozen Wastes

The man seems to calm a little at the sound of the words and calms down.

The Bartender Looks to Kyle "Thank you very much for helping them. If you aim to head into the middle of this mess then you should head to the local armor smith. The couple that run it have a large assortment of items you may find useful there."

"I agree those who adventure forward without proper preparation invite only death." offers Ivon

(Kyle offers as mutch help with the wounded as possible and as thanks the Gwen offers the party a free meal. (All health restored and any rebuffs removed) As the day draws to its end our heroes gather around the fire place meal in hand to offer there suggestions on the situation and to prepare as best they can for the grueling path that lies ahead of them. So tell me now Oh heroes how will this story unfold after all you may always turn back this is your story, your tell to tell I simply its voice. Now how shall it unfold)

"Well, short of the time and resources to make a batch of enchanted equipment I'm already as prepared as reasonably possible without dragging a wagon behind me.  Still, it is good advice"  One of the OOC Ironies of Kyle is that outside of 'make Alchemy suck less' and his choice in crossbows, Kyle is one of my LEAST worried about magic items picks characters.

"Well, I'm not quite as good when it comes to bedside manner as you Mittens." Kyle wonders if sunblock is forbidden to followers of Pelor, but has just enough tact not to ask.

Re: The Frozen Wastes

Eli says, "It would make sense that the dragon is a white dragon. But we can't assume as much. Once we confirm what kind of dragon it is, we can figure out how to defeat it. But assuming it is a white dragon, cold powers won't hurt it... but could very well hinder it. The queen we know nothing about, but if there is a way to take out the dragon, she will feel crippled and likely either retreat or immediately retaliate. So we need to be ready to retreat the moment we're done with the dragon. Even if her reaction is to retreat to gain her composure, we will need to regain ours too anyway."

Ivon floats around in front of Eli "The dragon is a White dragon that I had raised to guard my treasure room  from thieves who would enter the caves while I slumber. I fear that Mordona has destroyed his soul and left him an empty shell that only knows how to kill. If we cross his path I beg you to put him to rest."

Gloria shifts her position and speaks "I fear less the Dragon and more the caves themselves, I jest we pack warm for this journey else we may not survive the cold. There is also the matter of the territory between here and the cavers is home to a small family of Ice Giants. Friendly enough most Days but with the way times are now, I fear there may be conflict ahead."

"Well, that sounds needlessly complicated to make a white dragon eat things for you.  Though I suppose you don't need to offer a husk of one valuables every so often to keep it happy."

He looks over to Mittens, and says "I do have basic potions covered.  But they will only go so far."
