Scales of War: Throne of the Stone-Skinned King

"That seems needlessly elaborate, but I expect enough time alive beyond mortal reckoning makes you crave novelty as much as victory." Whether Dispater is telling the whole truth or not, it does just figure that the Archdevil is the one of the most civil political figures they have dealt with.

"Timothius, I'll leave it to your judgment if I crack this open now.  Though with how things go in these matters, I expect her leaving once she gets bored is as likely as he says."

"Why would you tell these adventurers the truth?!" the angel screams at Dispater, venting all its pent-up rage at him, "They are your enemies!  Have you decided to throw your lot in with them over Tiamat?!"

Dispater shrugs.  "No.  Just the obvious enlightened self-interest.  I'm not interested in allowing a swarm of conquering mini-gods come into being.  You should tell Tiamat she done messed up royally, and should abandon her plans..."

"No!  Tiamat is perfect in every way!  She has plans even you cannot fathom!  Gith's escape must have been part of her perfect scheme!"

Dispater wonders why he even bothered talking to the angel.

Raichel says to the angel, "Then it was all part of Tiamat's plan for Dispater to tell us. And for her angelic servant to mess up by confirming that Dispater is telling the truth by getting angry with him. Not that it matters, Timothius can see truth and lies as if they were solid objects." she looks at Timothius. "Is Dispater telling the truth?"

Timothius says, "He was exaggerating about Gith dooming us all, but otherwise, telling the truth."

Raichel turns her attention to "Vlaakith" and asks, "So why ascend your whole race to godhood? You've seen for yourself how easily they can be swayed to do things you don't approve of. I guess the real question is; why set you free?"

The barbed devils remain guarded and frustrated.

The woman answers, "This archdevil is a master liar.  Masterful enough to deceive even himself.  Also notoriously paranoid.

"You want the githyanki out of the war.  I can make this happen, if you release me."

Vlaakith diplomacy result: 26

She is making no effort at deception.  She is clearly flustered that an archdevil is being believed over someone stuck in a prison, so her efforts to be diplomatic are a tad less than what she's usually capable of.

Nuh uh Tiamat is a GOD and gods don't make mistakes and if they do then those should be retconned! (DnD forums.txt)

Kyle looks over to Timothius, and back to (temporarily) bottled Gith.  Waiting for the kitty cat's word on using an auto-success or not.

"I just did," Dispater answers, "With words.  But no, I will not attack.  It kindof doesn't matter whether you release her or not, now that I think of it.  She's simply too powerful to be contained."

He starts muttering to himself a play-by-play.  "So you release her.  She tries to prove me wrong by not killing me or anyone else.  Goes with you to take command of Z's opposition.  Convinces you to kill her rival for her.  The city burns in the war between dragon and factions.  Once she has the scepter, she ends the conflict.  Honors her contract with you.  Maybe even lets you have the dragon hoard.  Then she rebuilds the city and resumes the crusade.  All to make it look like I was being paranoid about her intentions and lull the planes into a false sense of security."

He stops muttering to himself and says decidedly, "The best thing you can do for your world is play along and release her.  Be ambitious in your negotiations.  And word your agreements very, very, carefully."

"Tiamat will hear of your betrayal!" the angel shouts.

Dispater restrains his annoyance.  "Fortunately, your goddess isn't simple-minded or short-sighted and will likely eventually congratulate me for warning the champions of the gods to Gith's schemes."

Timothius says, "Kyle, feel free to release her. No matter the politics, this much is certain: We can not continue our fight without her." He looks at VlaaGith and says, "If we seemed hesitant, it is mostly because this whole situation is a bit sudden, so we had to collect our thoughts."

Raichel keeps an eye on the angel. "Oh right. Betrayal. Like your goddess hasn't ever done that. You just admitted earlier that Dispater was telling the truth about your goddess breaking her contract. So look at it this way, Dispater is just following your goddess's example."

May is smiling with arms folded.

Kyle pops the hatch, such as it were. At least there can't be an anticlimax botched roll to free her.

Even as the cascade of readied attacks were happening, Timothius made the angel vulnerable to make the attacks hurt more. "Don't worry." he coos at the angel. "It'll be over soon."

May has a crossbow pop up over her shoulder and shoot at the angel, but the arrow plinks off harmlessly.

Retroactive Timothius using Sever the Source as readied. Which will give 16 more dmg to everyone's attacks.

Angel of Tiamat blabla HP: 196 - 48 = 148

Timothius tosses a seal onto the angel and says, "Hurts, don't she?" then waves a hand and EVERYTHING the angel just did gets undone and then some. Raichel heals good as new. "By the way, I can heal my allies again... and again... and again... glad you let me show you that before you get sent back to wherever you came from. Or die. I don't know what happens to defeated angels, honestly... May, let Mitts hit him first, please. Mitts, hit him to heal up, please."

Mits bursts with radiance, healing up!  But the angel looks unharmed.  Mits head-tilts, confused.

"That shoulda dropped it.  It must have some crazypants resistance right now."

Raichel says, "Don't! I! You're gonna make me blush mid-combat!"

Now that Timothius has healed up Raichel's concerning wounds, Kyle can focus on the job again instead of Revenge

He tosses some dust at the angelic pillar in passing, on his way to the teleportation circle. This time around it smells of roasted marshmallows.

The party all knows what this does by now.

"Let's get you someplace more scenic then, Vlaakith."

Timothius says, "Farewell, Dispater. Good luck with Tiamat."

May says, "Whee! Take care, devil dude!" and heads for the portal with the others. Somewhere, Kevin gives an aloha sign in honor of May.

Scales of War: Throne of the Stone-Skinned King

The emperor responds to Vlaakith’s escape by closing off the city. Those floating fortress commanders
who failed to stop the adventurers and didn’t have the
good sense to flee are summarily executed, and he
installs new commanders loyal to himself and Tiamat
in their place, many of which are not even githyanki.
Military societies loyal to his throne mobilize and
lay siege to those of uncertain reliability, while a full
legion with red dragon support sweeps through the
Merchant District searching for Vlaakith and her
liberators.
As casualties mount, confidence in the emperor
falters. Division and unrest spread across the city. Yet
for all the dissatisfaction, none seem willing to rise
up against Zetch’r’r as long as he has Tiamat’s support. If they could remove Zetch’r’r and break his pact
with the red dragons, the people would rise up and
wrest the city free from Tiamat’s grip.
The adventurers have proved their courage, their
competence, and their ambition. In Vlaakith’s eyes,
they are the ones the movement needs to spark the
revolution.

"It will take some time to assemble the leaders," Vlaakith explains, "You will have time to rest."

Mits comments, "I would like to hear your side of Dispater's story."

"Everything except for his paranoid assumptions about my intentions was accurate enough.  But it would be best if you did not mention about my identity to the leaders.  I'm not interested in being worshiped as a goddess.  I have always wanted only the freedom of my people."

Timothius says, "Rest is highly appreciated. As is your answer. I meant what I said about my respect for you, ma'am. And you can be sure that we will be staunch allies in dethroning Zetch'r'r and Tiamat.... welcome back to your personal freedom, by the way."

Raichel says, "The sooner we rest, the better. Hopefully, Vlaakith will get everyone together sooner than later."

May says, "Yeah. But we'll need to know where is best to rest so we won't get a rude awakening of a non-stop army."
