Re: Scales of War: EPIC!

Raichel almost seems to teleport as she is suddenly in the guy's face with both arms on the gith's blade arm in a bit of a lock that keeps him from committing suicide. "Wait." she says in an almost soft tone. "Why die, known as the servant of Zetch'r'r? Why not live and restore your honor in service to Vlaakith?"

Timothius nods. "We have no reason to kill you now." Every reason to arrest and detain him, but that's beside the point. And this group has certainly had to learn to allow a lot to slide.

May is too busy demanding answers from the unconscious devil while stomping on it and taunting it. Such as taking the baby-talk tone and saying things like "Oh wook at the widdo devo. Can't answer a simple question..." And then going to normal tone and saying, "You will know hurt! You will know shame! Because you delighted in giving your life merely to annoy us, I will devote my life to making you wish I would allow you to go back to the hells!"

"May, that's pointless.  They can't hear you taunt them while unconscious."  He offers the best kobold ever a notepad "Now, he may have trouble responding intelligebly without teeth, so hopefully their penmanship isn't worse."

The kitty cats seem to have the honor death whatever category covered.

Re: Scales of War: EPIC!

The gish is shocked by Rai's unexpected concern for restoring his honor.

"You don't understand.  In my culture, I will never again be trusted.  I will be tried as a traitor and executed.  Why burden my fellows with such a formality and force them to kill yet another of their own?  This is why I asked to be allowed a swift death.  It is the last thing I can do for my people."

"Noble and all, but we're not going to allow it,"
Mits says, taking his sword, "We have a war to end, and we don't have time to argue with you.  Now grab Zechy's ruby scepter and come with us."

He blinks in shock.  Almost looks hopeful.  He takes the scepter as ordered and follows.

"Time to teleport back."

Raichel looks up and says, "I really wanna fly up there and knock that dragon's teeth out."

Timothius says, "All in due time. We were asked to deal with Zetch'r'r. We did. Vlaakith may ask us to deal with the dragon, or she may kill it herself. Let's find out."

May chains the devil to herself and smiles at Kyle, taking the notepad. "It isn't pointless if yelling at him makes me feel better. But I appreciate the concern for my wasting time. Which I won't do now. Let's go."

Re: Scales of War: EPIC!

Shortly the characters defeat Zetch’r’r and his allies,
an astral skiff descends through the roof and settles
on the 10' above the floor. Vlaakith and several githyanki
knights exit through the hatch. Vlaakith shows a little
surprise at the change in appearance of the twins but
shakes it off and
congratulates the adventurers on their victory and then starts
looking for the scepter of Ephelomon.

The gish hands it over.

She then makes ready to leave, saying,
“It’s time to finish this.” She turns to board the astral
skiff again.

"You may join me if you wish."

"Don't see why not," Mits says, "Me and Rai both want to kick big red dragon face in the face."

"I don't expect that to be necessary.  My objective is to show him that the pact is broken and to have him take the dragons from here.  When that happens, all of Zech'r'r's loyalists will know they've lost and the fighting will end."

"I thought all of you fought to the death no matter what," Mits mutters.  But why argue?  She heads to board the skiff.

Re: Scales of War: EPIC!

May nod and slings the devil over her left shoulder (her right shoulder is for shooting crossbow bolts). "We'll see. But totally coming." she says as she boards the vessel.

Raichel glances at Mittens and says, "I know, right?" before hovering aboard the skiff, the occasional bolt of electricity shooting the floor below her. She gently lands and takes a deep breath, causing her lightning to all travel to her hands rather than randomly everywhere. This has the side effect of very slowly building some ball of lightning between her hands, which she is holding onto.

Timothius flies aboard, "Thank you for the invite, Vlaakith."

Re: Scales of War: EPIC!

Vlaakith and her retinue head for the dragon caves
at the opposite side of the city. Through the windows,
the characters can see Tu’narath in flames, and fighting still rages in pockets. Not long after, the skiff
descends and lands on a large floating rock amid the
debris held by the red dragons. There, Vlaakith steps
out and waits.

Moments later, an elder red dragon emerges from
a cave followed by four more dragons of similar
size. Before they have a chance to breathe, Vlaakith
raises her hands to show them the scepter. She says
the following:

“Children of Ephelomon, the pact is ended and your worthy
service is no longer required.”

she shatters the relic with a
telekinetic attack!

The elder red dragon’s eyes narrow for a moment
and then it says, “You have been suitable partners
these long years. It would be a waste to see you
destroyed. We shall leave, but know this: When we
next meet, it shall be as enemies.” The elder dragon
roars and lifts off, and the other dragons follow its
lead. All across the shattered expanse, more dragons leave their caves, some carrying blackened
eggs, others spitting fire, piercing the air with their
screams. As dragons abandon the city in scores, the
few remaining dragons fighting the Separatists take
note and drop their riders to the city streets below
before following their kin. Within minutes, the dragons vanish into the shimmering void, and the city is
once more under githyanki control.

"Alrighty, then!" Mits exclaims, "I guess they had an inkling already that this was a pointless war."

Seeing this, Timothius slow-blinks before changing back into his wingless form.

Raichel hurls the ball lightning into the sky, "Surprisingly smart." she says in annoyance. But she too changes back to her less-raichu form.

May says, "That was... anticlimactic. But hey! At least we just bore witness to scores of dragons filling the sky and fleeing from a city built on the corpse of a god."

Timothius looks over to "Vlaakith" and says, "I must once again thank you for the opportunity to bear witness to this. Your people have a lot to rebuild; from their homes to their minds, and in many unfortunate cases, their honor. But if I am reading things correctly, you have no further need of us for now and we can go home and claim the assault on the Prime Material is no more?"

He lets Timothius, wings or no wings, deal with the political talk.  Even if it is a simple yess/no question.

Re: Scales of War: EPIC!

"You are free to stay in the city for as long as you wish," Vlaakith answers, "But if you are eager to leave, I will gladly have my servants open a portal to the natural world to facilitate your return."

Vlaakith honors whatever agreements she made
with the adventurers and stakes no claim to any
treasures they extracted from the Chromatic Bastion.

"When you choose to go, I will send with you two of my generals.  They will affirm what you say and lend their service when Tiamat inevitably retaliates against your world.  I shall remain here to take command of Tu’narath.  First I will have the Chromatic Bastion razed.  Perhaps use the rubble to build a monument in the dragon cave to signify our independence.  Once I have secured the city, my first order of business will be to extend a hand of peace to my githzerai cousins.  It has been too long, and old grudges have weakened our people.  It is time we laid down our differences and embrace a new culture of unity."

"Good luck with that," Mits says, "Trust won't be easy to regain from a people who were possessed by githyanki ghost spies and whatnot.  You'll at least have the fact that you worked with us instead of against us going for you."

Timothius says, "It will take time, but Vlaakith here is no stranger to waiting and is far more patient, I imagine, than most mortals can ever hope to be. Thank you for your welcome and your offer to take us home. The only reason I would wish to stay would be to personally vouch for a certain someone who was always on your side: Kada'ne. And his help led us to you while also helping with rallying your people for you. If you decide his service would be best here, so be it. But be informed that personally, I found him to be quite diplomatic."

Raichel and May are taking Kyle's approach; Let the catboy do the talking.

"I'm sure he will be useful no matter where he ends up serving," Vlaakith answers, "So I shall let him decide what place that will be."

Mits is still surprised the topic of "The Well of Worlds is totally ours!" hasn't come up.  Maybe Vlaak-Gith wasn't entirely aware of that whole business?  Or has her hands full with other concerns?  Either way, she's not going to bring it up.

"Sounds good to me.  Yeah, I think we're all eager to get back home.  Though before we go, I'd like to see the dragon hoard.  I imagine a whole cave full of dragons wound up with quite the impressive pile."

"As you wish."

The group finds the cave picked clean, save for a few broken and empty black eggs.  Closer inspection shows that they are hinged and have clasps.

"Shoulda guessed," Mits mutters, "They are dragons after all.  Even in a crisis they're too gold happy to leave behind their wealth.  Had a way to transport their treasure on short notice all set up long ahead of time.  Oh well!  Got way better treasure in the form of what we accomplished!"

When asked, Kada'ne elects to join the others in returning to the material world.

"Ah, bad to something closer to my usual assumptions then." Godhood specifically is not likely in Kyle's future, but if it were he'd probably end up the god of payment for services rendered.

"I will take some small comfort in the fact the dragon control staff was broken this whole time, so it's not even worth a speck of residuum to Vlaakith." Plot grade handwaves aside.

Mits boasts, "Success!  Zech'r'r is defeated and replaced!  His replacement agreed to quit attacking the Prime Material!  But that was one heck of a long day.  We need to unwind."

Amyria's usual stoic air is overwhelmed with relief.  "Gods be praised!  I am so happy to hear of your safe return and success!  You certainly deserve the rest you mentioned.  Please, allow me to handle all the busywork of arranging a victory celebration."

May says, "The twins unlocked some kind of super powers and transformed before our eyes. Timothius became an angel and Raichel became... I don't know. Some kind of avatar of lightning."

Timothius says, "We all unlocked. I was able to feel it. You may not see what is new about you yet, but in time, you will."

May ca-chings! "Yes! Kinda excited to see what Mittens, Kyle and I have become..." She holds up the devil. "How do you like my latest weapon? I'mma keep it alive and humiliate it for a while. Maybe the rest of my life. Maybe just a week."

She arm-arounds her sis.  "Hehe.  Expect to see more of the same in the future.  I got a nifty flash of insight that allowed me to figure out how to do a tiny bit of time manipulation like that.  Oh the fun me and my avatar of awesome sibs and allies are going to have!"

Amyria blushes at all the thanks and bows.  "You are most welcome, my friends.  Thank you ever so much for all your hard work and steadfastness that won the day.  I pray that there will soon be no need for the Coalition and that the problems to come will be much more sane."

Mits shrugs.  "So long as there is evil, we will strive to overcome it.  So I doubt our challenges will get much easier."

She looks to Timo.  "So...  official pantheon promotion?  Specific deity's blessing?  Spontaneously sprouted wings and changed looks from the goodness within?  Gotta say...  you've surpassed all the storybook heroes I ever looked up to growing up.  None of them spontaneously turned into angels or lighning-tailed cool people mid-fight!  And that's with storybook exaggerations like using a tornado as a mount."

He gave me the promotion of being his personal spokesman in regards to mercy and life, while you have clearly become his blazing sword."

Raichel says, "More than I know about my state of being. I have no idea why I changed. Just that I can now."

Raichel then looks back at Amyria. "Sorry, Amyria, but we got the strong impression that Tiamat is now going to set her sights on the Prime Material out of spite. She'll likely have all the chromatic dragons wage war on all non-dragons."

May says, "Wouldn't be the first, second, or even third time we've stopped an army. Bring it on! ....................after we rest."
