How combat works

This is a quick explanation of how combat will work in this game.  Some of you have been in D&D games with me before, and know how I like to run things, but some of you haven't, so...

First round
Roll your own Initiative, and decide what you want to do.  Make any Skill checks, Attack rolls and Damage rolls necessary for your actions.  Note that you won't know whether you've hit the target or not, so be vague with the results of any attacks at this stage.

You don't need to post in Initiative order or anything, I'll sort all that out.

At the end of the round (ie: after everybody has posted), I'll do a summary post, which puts everything into Initiative order and tweaks events slightly so that they make more sense.  Any differences between your description of the action and my description of it are entirely due to the chaotic nature of combat, and we're probably both right, but from different perspectives.

This post will also tell you the ACs of the enemies (always figured that after a few seconds even the dumbest fighter would have some idea how much he was missing his targets by).

Second and subsequent rounds
You're still alive?  Good for you!

Make any Skill checks, Attack rolls and Damage rolls necessary for your actions this round.  At this point you know your target's AC, so you can be a bit more specific with your hits and misses.

Again, don't worry about Initiative order, that will all be sorted out (and fudged a little if required) in my summary post.

At all times, I'll roll for everything the enemy does.  I'll also handle any Attacks of Opportunity that come up for your character, and any Saves for things which will take effect that round.  For some things which might not take instant effect, I may ask you at the end of the round to make your own Save.  Then chuckle evilly as you fail, miserably...

And a final note: I'll sometimes fudge things in favour of drama and storyline.  So, for example, if character A has a higher initiative than B, but I think things will be more dramatic and awesome if B acts first, just for this round, then that's the way it will happen.  However, I don't do that when A is your character, and B is an enormous great ogre with an axe though.  I won't switch the order if doing so will get a player character killed.

Slapped about and humiliated by sniggering kobolds is another story...
