nope, haven't been able to, previous night slept through it and last night took a drive to try and see them, but no such luck.

Even in a city on the east coast of Scotland, we got a good look of the northern lights, which is very unusual for us (ie. never happens).

But at midnight here on Friday night we could see patterns in the sky - not huge swathes of colour, just the patterns you associate with it. And then we took pictures with our phones - and everything showed up in all its glory! A beautiful sight indeed, so happy I got to see it (for the first time).

totally on my bucket list to go to Iceland or Norway and see the northern light in all of their glory.

My eldest got to go to Iceland on a school trip, I was so jealous. Well, apart from the fact the entire place stinks of sulphur from all the volcanic activity!

The Sleep spell will work, but it may not take out all of the Hobs and Wolves. I haven't rolled it yet.
Cos, your new magical item doesn't allow you to polymorph into another species; you can subtly change your appearance, but not to the effect you posted, so you will need to edit your post.
Here is the item's description:

...that allows its wearer to alter his appearance as follows:
Height: +/-25% of actual height

Weight: +/-50% of actual weight

Sex: Male or female

Hair: Any color

Eyes: Any color

Complexion: Any color

Facial features: Highly mutable

Thus, the wearer could appear as a comely woman, a half-orc, or possibly even a gnome. If the hat is removed, the disguise is instantly dispelled. The headgear can be used over and over. Note that the hat can be changed (as part of a disguise) to appear as a comb, ribbon, head band, fillet, cap, coif, hood, helmet, etc.

No worries on my end,   I'll adjust the post to have cos look like a half orc.   I'm good with most any game pace.    Agreed it would be a blast to be around a gaming table.  But rpol works well with my other commitments
