Re: Chapter 2.3: Hickory Dickory Docks (Part C) [01/31/1925]

Millicent gave an annoyed pout at Walter's suggestion but didn't argue.

"Knock yourself out honey," she said to Leo, her jealous tone obvious; "don't have too much fun and you BETTER bring back something warm and soothing, and I don't mean a dame."

She called back to Walter as she moved away to better scan the area for people. "Whatever you're going to do hurry it up, I'm tired of freezing my ass off out here."

Leo thanked the staff that allowed him use of a phone, though when Avery's voice sounded from the other end, Leo responded quickly. "Not been terribly productive so far, and we've lost contact with Stan. I don't suppose he's checked in with you?"

"No, sir, Mr. Bishop has not yet rung, nor have the others. I presume from the question that he has been separated from your number, given that he was to be in your group. If any of them do ring, is there a message you wish me to give them regarding your status?" the dutiful valet asked.

Whatever Walter was doing, he hadn't succeeded in starting the car.

OOC:
Walter has spent about ten minutes failing to get the car startes.

Give me another roll to keep trying.

What followed was a few more minutes of failure, but just as he was about to give up on it, the engine came to life.

OOC:

The car is running now. Leo is still in the pub talking to Avery. Millicent can get inside the car now. What's the plan?

Leo thought for a little bit. "Just let them know we've lost contact with Stanley and are searching for him. If they are done early, they may need to take on our planned second stop." He paused. "I'll try to be in touch again once we've completed our task. If you haven't heard from me again before the others indicate completion, send them to take over what we had planned to do next."

The minutes ticked by and Millicent grew more frustrated with no result in sight. Finally she heard a rumble and hurried back to the car getting in beside Walter.

"Lord honey, I never thought you would get this thing started before I froze to death." She rubbed her hands trying to get warm.  "Should we go pick Leo up or just sit here and wait to see if Stan shows up? Personally I vote for the pub."

"Thank you, Avery. We will check in again later."

With that, Leo thanked the staff again for the use of the phone and headed back out to the car.

"Avery hear from Stan?"

Walter considers Leo's response for a minute, then says, "We're not going to find out whether they've got Stan in that warehouse unless we go in there and I doubt they'll ask us in for tea.

"I see two options. We knock politely, show them the guns, and invite ourselves in. They might not open up and they might just deep six Stan. Or we drive right through those doors. At least we'll be inside.

"Anyone else have any ideas?"

Leo shook his head. "He has not."

The elderly doctor furrowed his brow at the suggestions from Walter, then nodded. "You know the lay of the land better than either of us. If there isn't a way to enter undetected, then perhaps the element of surprise is our only potential advantage."

Walter 'Bo' Brandon:
"How's your driving, Milly?"

Millicent looked at the man, wondering what he was thinking. "It's passable," she said shrugging, "as long as you don't ask me to do anything crazy as in driving a car though doors a car is not meant to go through. You ain't thinking of that are you?"

OOC:

Since you're thinking about ramming your vehicle into something, I figured I would take a moment to provide some more information about the vehicle.

The vehicle leased by the Savoy to Dr. Elias for the day is an imported Tin Lizzie, a Ford Model T automobile with window regulators and refined upholstery. It has a top speed of 35 mph, comfortably seats 5 passengers, and costs $800.

(Other Info: 20 horsepower @ 1600 rpm, 83 lb-ft @900 rpm Torgue, weight 1875 lbs)

Walter is silent for a time, chewing at his lower lip. He doesn't want to make a mistake with Stan's life possibly on the line.

"Okay. Here's my plan.

"I'll drive back to the warehouse and line up the rear of the car with the doors. You two take the shotguns, one on either side of the doors. When I smash them in and pull clear, you go in and cover anybody you see. Then we'll go through the place and find Stan. Don't shoot unless they attack us.

"If you'd rather drive, Milly, I'll take a shotgun."

I can't remember if we have two guns or three. If three, the driver will bring one along.

Millicent looked at the man with a bit of surprise on her face.

"Me? I'd probably blow someones fool head off and I'm not talking about them. No, I better handle the car, putting holes in people is your job."

The woman's face thought for a moment and showed a bit of doubt. "Are we REALLY going to just run the car into the door and hope for the best? Saints preserve us."

It sounded dangerous, but if Stan was captured, they didn't really have any choice. Leo nodded and looked to Millie for her decision.

When she indicated she'd rather drive, Leo looked over to Walter with a grim look on his face. "I don't think we have very many choices. Unless you have a better thought?"

"That's the best I got, Leo."

He gets into the car with the others.

"Sit up here beside me, Milly. I'll put the car in position and me and Leo will get out with the guns. Then, hit the gas and keep the steering wheel straight. Once you've smashed the doors, pull forward so we can go in."

OOC:

Alright, whenever you're ready, give me a Drive Auto roll.

Don't worry about your success or failure, you'll still be able to hit the door. That will just help me determine other things.

Re: Chapter 2.3: Hickory Dickory Docks (Part C) [01/31/1925]

In reply to The Keeper (msg # 66):

Bo navigates the streets back to the warehouse. Stopping about a half block away, he turns off the headlights and observes the building and the street for a few minutes.

He turns to Milly: "When we're in position, back as fast as you can into those doors. Keep pushing until you break through.

"Once you've bashed in the doors and pulled forward so we can get in, keep the motor running and wait for us. If you hear shots, drive to that corner and wait."
He indicates the intersection a few doors up to the left of the warehouse.

"Count to one-twenty once you're there. If we aren't out, circle the block and come back by from the other direction. If you don't see us or if you see the bad guys or if you see cops, drive to the hotel, park the car, and go up to Leo's room. Wait with Avery for our call. You got all that? Repeat it to me."

Getting her reply, he maneuvers the car into place so that the rear of the vehicle is lined up with the doors.

Walter 'Bo' Brandon rolled 17 using 1d100 with rolls of 17.  Drive Auto 35%.

"Okay, Leo, let's get in position. I'll be first through the doors." He gets out, takes his shotgun, checks the load and the dozen shells in his overcoat pocket, and crosses quickly to take a position a few steps to the right of the doors.

Leo listened to the instructions. He felt apprehension, but this seemed like their only shot to get Stan back. He listened to the outlined plan and grabbed a shotgun for himself.

"Sounds good, Bo, let's do this." Leo stepped to the left of the doors, opposite of where Walter had positioned himself.

Alright, Millicent. You're up. Give me a post telling me what you're doing and a driving roll and we'll be off to the races. Metaphorically speaking.

Since Walter set you up, make your roll with Advantage.

Re: Chapter 2.3: Hickory Dickory Docks (Part C) [01/31/1925]

Millicent gave the two men a worried look and gulped saying, "Christ, this is craziest thing I have done in some time, and I ain't even drunk. I seriously need to remedy that when were done here."

Making sure the doors were closed, she gripped the steering wheel and gave a resolute look. "Ok you bastards, here I come." Shifting the gear in reverse, she looked back and gunned the gas as the car moved backwards at a high rate of speed smashing into the hopefully not too solid doors.

17:21, Today: Millicent O'Connor rolled 99 using 2d100 with rolls of 72,27.  Drive auto. (30) So I guess she did it.
