Seattle Con Awards
This is the inaugural awards:
(Next time I think I might institute a vote, but for now it is one brilliant man's opinion.)
MVP: Caylin Direbrook
His ability to damage opponents consistently especially flying opponents combined with his otherworldly AC and tendency to be outside the range of most area effect spells kept him in the fight and kept the rest of us alive.
1st Runner Up: Perrato Viatomagne's healing channels, dimensional hop ability and spell repertoire kept everyone in the fight right up until he rolled a 1 on a Will save vs. Confusion. As a matter of fact that one roll is the only thing separating Perrato from being the MVP.
2nd Runner Up: Aidrin ap Gynwir's liberal use of Disintegrate and other offensive spells were major contributions to combat, but Polymorph and Erase proved to be the difference in our final combat. additionally, the party really began to rely upon his knowledge in arcana and the planes.
Most Improved: Gilrak Kilring
Two words: Greater Trip. Gilrak's tripping was a revelation in every combat that took place on the ground and more often than not was the event that spelled doom for the devils that went toe-to-toe with our little dwarf.
1st Runner Up: Caylin Direbrook's Many Shot and Deadly Aim were critical to his MVP performance but the halfling was always effective, just not to the degree he was this adventure.
2nd Runner Up: Garryn's increased damage proved to have an important role in combat, it was particularly significant before Aidrin figured out how to overcome the devil's damage resistance. While his biggest contribution was probably his frequent use of Disable Device and willingness to get blown up, the pile of six-sided dice he was dishing out in combat was a significant upgrade.
Best Unexpected or Creative Use of Spell or Spell-like Ability: Aidrin ap Gynwir
In a major upset over the perennial winner Perrato, Aidrin's use of the Erase spell to free Totmacher was critical to overcoming the Contract Devil and was certainly both unexpected and creative.
1st Runner Up: Perrato's Dimensional Hop was as important as a party saving maneuver as anything that happened in the adventure with the exception of Perrato's Channel Energy, however, while removing Caylin from harm was a well-timed and unexpected use, it wasn't as outside of the box as the winners, but expect to see Perrato back on top soon.
Best Spell or Spell-like Ability: Channel Energy, Perrato
Hands down Perrato's ability to "Sparkle" played a pivotal role in every encounter.
1st Runner Up: Disintegrate, Aidrin. The 11d6 after making a saving throw made this the 'old reliable' of offensive spells.
Best Feat or Special Ability: Greater Trip, Gilrak
Again, sort of a no-brainer, this feat changed the nature of every combat in which it was employed.
1st Runner Up: Deadly Aim, Caylin. This was particularly important when dealing with Damage Reduction.
2nd Runner Up: Power Attack, Totmacher. See 1st runner up, just not employed as effectively due to flying opponents.
Best Skill: Knowledge (Planes), Aidrin.
A skill that had never really been needed prior to this adventure, and in fact the points were recently assigned in anticipation of future adventures on other planes, it proved important in figuring out what we were dealing with and giving us the ability to overcome the Damage Reduction.
1st Runner Up: Disable Device, Garryn. Traps galore made this pivotal early in the adventure.
2nd Runner Up: Perception, Everyone, but particularly Aine Cliodhna. The general high Perceptions saved our bacon on several occasions and Aine could always be depended upon to notice anything, her maxed out skill points, good wisdom and Alertness feat combined with rolls so high its no wonder she didn't accomplish much in melee, her dice were worn out from making Perception checks.
