Calvin Pace was an assistant marine biologist aiding in the study
of the adaptive and curious tendencies of a giant isopod colony,
located in a deep abyss of the shore of the Pacific ocean.
In addition to their Chitinous armored exterior and incredible speed- even in the dense ocean-
group members at times seemed to go into periods of low energy output,
which would couple with seemingly impossible associated movements of independent objects at a distance.
Simple things like, rock movement to cover a hole that could potentially allow a predator access to an area.
But were these "occurrences" simply coincidence, or were they scientific evidence of animal telekinesis?

Calvin's Professor- Dr. Kate Dillon- needed to know.

She began studying the creatures religiously, with Calvin never too far away.
Never actually killing any of the animals, she would often collect specimens, run tests on them,
and then release them back into the abyss.
It seemed the only place on earth that housed the creatures.

Dr. Dillon was able to isolate a unique gland in the brain stem of the isopods that she thought
might be the key to the creatures unique abilities.
By harmlessly extracting small amounts of the gland's contents over an extended period of time,
Kate was able to synthesize a compound that she postulated could potentially work on humans.

One night, while both Calvin and Kate were working on her boat, a freak storm took the research vessel,
tossing it about like a child in a bathtub.

Calvin- an all Pac Ten football player in college-
was attempting to secure the compound in accordance to Dr. Dillon's instructions,
when a huge wave heaved the boat onto it's side.
Calvin was thrown against a wall that had become the floor...
and the compound was thrown against the wall as well,
shattering and dousing Calvin in hundreds of doses that mixed with the salt water now rushing into the boat.
The strong elixir, mixed with the salt water, burned away Calvin's taste buds,
and he frantically tried to escape the interior of the vessel, his skin, mouth, and inner body aflame with pain.
As he struggled to open a hatch as water began to engulf the capsizing vessel,
he noticed Dr. Dillon's dead body float past,
neck broken from the impact of the fall,
her physical form grotesquely altered.

She had grown a layer of chitinous armor all over her body...
and with horror, Calvin realized he had done the same.
The compound apparently had a terrible, unforeseen side effect.

But as the water level rose within the cabin,
and he realized the door was barred from the outside,
the images of the isopods moving the rocks came to mind...
and Calvin instinctively moved the obstruction with his mind.

With no time to think, he stretched his mind out again and seized an inflatable lifeboat- located across the room-
which he snapped into his hands, wrapping the cords around his forearms.
He then took a deep breath, opened the door, and as the water rushed in,
he thrust the lifeboat through the door and inflated it.

The lifeboat rose to the raging waters above.

Somehow, Calvin managed to climb inside the lifeboat without capsizing it,
and he noticed how much his body mass had increased as the boat sagged significantly in the middle where he stayed,
and threatened to capsize wildly whenever he moved to one of the edges.

He was found the next day, afloat at sea and unrecognizable.

As the days passed, he began to look more and more normal once more.
His natural Puerto Rican tanned skin tone deepened into a more greenish olive, but it wasn't too dramatic.
The chitinous armor, at one point threatening to completely engulf any trace of human recognition,
began to recede into Calvin's natural features, though the plates were still visible under scrutiny.
His hair- which had fallen out- began to grow back through the plates, eventually appearing completely normal.
The Armor, at first large, chunky scales, began to form to his musculature, thankfully returning his humanity as well.
Still, the new armor impeded Calvin's naturally lightning-quick reflexes, and the stuff was heavy;
Calvin now tipped the scales at 500 plus pounds.

As Calvin recovered, he found his new telekinetic powers relatively weak, but still useful.
He sometimes pretended he was "using the force," which- in a sense- he was.

Another unforeseen side effect of the serum Calvin had been exposed to was that he could now run incredibly fast-
despite his incredible weight, he was now running almost three times as fast as before,
while weighing almost three times as much.

Once released from the military compound that held him for testing, and registering with them,
Calvin left determined to try to turn Dr. Dillon's sacrifice into something meaningful.
He couldn't bring her back, but perhaps he could honor her memory.

Character Notes/Origin/Personality/Description
Phoebe Post was an All-American athlete in both track and field and Taekwondo.
Even while still in high school, she was featured in sports magazines and wooed
by agents. She practiced her interview skills as much as her triple jump. She
was well on her way to Olympic stardom and becoming America's sweetheart.

The very first sign of problems was fairly innocuous--her hair and nails got
thicker, but not so much that anyone really noticed. If anything, she was just
happy about the lack of split ends and chipped nails. But the real shock came
six months later when she failed a drug test before a national track meet. She
had not so much as looked at a needle and took account of everything that went
into her body. The media backlash was intense and fierce; as much as they loved
her before, they hated her now.

With the same grit and determination that she took to the track, she resolved to
get to the bottom of things. It started with the lab results. The test was newly
designed to catch the so-called undetectable designer drugs and it flagged her
sample. She spent thousands of her own money (from the few advances she didn't
have to return after the scandal) to track down the specific compound. It was a
synthetic hormone designed to promote bone strength. It also matched the over-
the-counter vitamin supplement she took every morning.

It seemed that her trainer, Richard Cory, didn't want his rising star to fade
and had laced her pills with the drug. In collaboration with the police and a
local news affiliate, she set up a sting and got him to admit it on video.
Exonerated, she was lauded by the press for her bravery and never-say-die
attitude (they love a comeback story and a wrongfully accused story even more
than a cheating story), but her athletic career was over. The hormone had
permanently altered her and could not longer fairly compete.

So she was left with great fighting skills, but natural and unnatural, and not
much else. The career path for women athletes is always insecure. As a man, she
could have joined professional MMA; as a woman, not so much. She was just
figuring out what to do when she got a call. It was from a government agent in
Indianapolis.

Character Notes/Origin/Personality/Description

Born in 1919, Duane was 22 when he enlisted in the Army after the Japanese
attack on Pearl Harbor.  Already an experienced pilot and radio navigator, he
was assigned to the 415th Night Fighter Squadron, operating out of England.

During a night bombing run in 1944, he spotted a "foo fighter," a mysterious
ball of green-white flame (believed by some in modern times to be the result
of secret Nazi experiments).  The ball struck his B-25, enveloping it in green
fire...

Duane suddenly appeared in the skies over Washington D.C., 65 years later, his
ship crippled and his crew missing.  He crashed landed, his plane exploding
around him, but was miraculously unhurt.

He was taken into custody by federal authorities.  He spent two years being
interrogated and, once it was discovered that he had been "changed" by his
experience, being scientifically tested.  After undergoing reorientation
programs, he was pushed into joining the newly formed White Knights, acting
as Uncle Sam's inside man.

Flaming Sword (Natural Weapon; offense value: +3 to hit, +6 to damage)
the 'traditional' weapon of the celestial is it's flaming sword.  This is not, as some believe, an item.
It is instead the manifestation of the angel's being. It cannot be handed to anyone else, nor given
away.  By the same, it cannot be taken, either.  It manifests when the angel wills it to.

Weakness: Mute
Actually, the angel can speak, and does.  Problem is that it can only speak the celestial tongue.
The Celestial tongue is the language used in heaven, and is the vocalization of thought itself ...
and cannot contain untruth.  But it is a language that human's cannot understand, because the
human mind cannot (due to biological restraint) comprehend.
Usually, an angel sent to earth to communicate with humans is gifted, by the ArchAngels, with
the ability to do so with the human tongue/s.  But as Marviel was expelled from heaven, it wasn't
blessed with this power.

Character Notes/Origin/Personality/Description:

Appearance: 6'4 and muscular, long blonde hair and blue eyes, looks like the
ultimate surfer or some of the paintings of the Greek or Roman Gods, wears all
black body suit with lightining bolt highlighting at the wrists and collar.

Origin: Child prodigy with a penchant for science, his parents supported him
whole-heartedly, giving him his own chemistry set as soon as he could ask for
one and had the muscular control to use it. Getting his parents to get him more
and better supplies, making his own connections to get things he wanted, his
reputation soon spread and unsavory types came to him for his services, getting
him to make better and cheaper drugs, the money attracting him since it let him
expand his labs and not need to get a job. One day while working on a new
hallucegnic he zigged when he should have zagged and before he knew it he was
having an out of body experience and found himself having a conversation with
the universe and it was answering..and when he finally got back to his body
even that had changed and as the days passed he learned that he had gained the
ability to fly, tho that wasn't without it's pitfalls, for he was easily
distracted and then he'd start to plummet, in time he learned to always keep a
portion of his concentration on his flying.

The Universal Mind, as he has come to call it, one day led him to a cave that
was only reachable at low tide, inside of which a small figurine with a hole in
it that was the perfect size for a thin chain, the carved little statue humanoid
but with weird designs on it that when looked at from diffrent angles would look
3-D. Nothing much seemed to come from it until, quite by accident, he found that
the totem would harness the power of anything eletrical around him to form
images made of the electricity, which also had the misfortune of shorting out
everything in his place on more than one occasion.

Reading in the Science Journals of Professor Penn that had made incredible
strides in the control of electricity, Brady went to him and after much talk
and food they made a deal, he'd allow Brady the use of his new device to test
for him (without telling him about his powers)and in exchange Brady would give
him all the pick-me ups and suppliments and pain killers he would ever need.

and thus MasterShock was born.

Background
Jacques Dufay is the son of a line of French speaking Belgians who trace their
family roots back into the deep history of the region. His grandfather used to
claim that their ancestors fought Julius Caesar's legions. He would show the
young Jacques descriptions of the fierce Belgae tribes and point to the young
man. "This is you. A people who strikes fear into even a Caesar."

It was one day while rummaging in the attic of an ancestral home, that Jacques
discovered a dusty chest made of black wood. When he opened the chest a dark,
shroud-like being leaped out and over the young man. It was a terrifying moment,
but the strong-willed Jacques learned to master the will of the strange creature
that became a part of him and merged with his very being.

His new found abilities were disturbing, and the dark shroud carried with it
shadows of memories of dark deeds. Jacques was determined to use the power for
good rather than evil.

1. Where the character normally lives/resides
Dufay's family has homes in Brussels, Los Angeles, and Elisabethville in the
Belgian Congo, where Dufay Mineral Co. has significant investments in copper mining
operations. Jacques spends most of his time in a substantial residence in a tony
Los Angeles neighborhood. Jacques is in America officially to keep an eye on the
family business interests.

2. Family members?
Jacques is the second eldest son. Phillipe, his older brother now runs the family
business. Their mother, Claire is a widow and lives a life on the European social
circuit. Henri the youngest son is a captain in the Belgian army. Uncle Jean
Francoise and Aunt Beatrice (an Englishwoman) are noted philanthropists who have
long argued the family needs to get out of the Congo.

3. Significant Others?
None. Jacques has a bit of a public reputation as a ladies man.

4. Friends?
Jacques tends to keep to himself. He has many friendships with business leaders
and a few minor celebrities, but he has no close associates.

5. Day job?
He oversees the family business interests in the Western United States and Canada
-- mostly mining operations. This is really just a nominal job, though, as the
company has its own professional executives. Jacques is mostly a figure head.

6. Coworkers?
Head of North American Operations - Peter Block, a mining engineer who learned
the business side of things and rose up through the ranks. Practical and no nonsense.
He finds Jacques a distraction to his real job.

Personal Assistant - Gladys Penbrook, young and blonde with dreams of being a Hollywood
starlet.

Driver - Nigel Cross, a former European race car champion, reduced to driving
Jacques around Los Angeles on business. He also manages Dufay's auto collection.

7. Hobbies/interests, things they'd be doing while not working or adventuring?
Jacques has taken to golf and sport fishing, although most of is free time is spent
out stalking criminals.
