Re: Do you want to...

I'm... pretty pleased with where we are, regarding working out the rules, and getting the bugs out of the game.

Infantry will be a fun thing to develop a little more.  I'm thinking we could use a few more players (up to 3?) to fill out the unit to a full company.  So i'm going to put a tentative players wanted ad up and see what bites we get.

Re: Do you want to...

Well as an spec forces peep with D/D/D access, unless I'm mistaken we would have acces to Camo sneak suits which I imagine under Kitten rules would dramatically increase the "I'm a hidden ninja who is going to really ruin your day" sort of thing if wanted.

Re: Do you want to...

Oh...

If youre going to generate a infantryman, you may use the optional character generation method.

You still have only 30,000 Cbills for personal gear and as infantry are considered 'well equiped (1)' for calculating equipment availability and are +50% weight allowance.  Like Player character Edge, this perk does not count against the character limit.

Available Tech Level for Infantry is
Tech Level C / Available B / Legality B (+1 level, i dont have the book infront of me to look it up at the moment.)

They may also select (2) Pieces of D/D/D equipment to purchase.

Infantry 'Personal' Equipment may not excede 30kg.

Keep in mind you have a budget of 30k, i'm not sure what the cost of a sneak suit was, but it was pretty obnoxious.

Re: Do you want to...

7,000 for a single sneak, 14 for dual, and 21 for a triple...but I think the triple made the rarity bump up to E so only if you were to take an extra level of well equipped would you have a chance of picking that or any other E stuff...

So expensive, no doubt.

You're going to have to buy a 'gun' somewhere in there too.

Re: Do you want to...

New Auctions are up.

Infantry characters must be generated BEFORE you make any bids on the auction.

Currently i believe...
Camille, Crispin, and Devlin are generating infantry characters

Currently i believe...
Caitlin and Gregory are not.

Amost and Thantos are undecided i believe.  Actually i'm also waiting to see if Thantos' computer issues have ended or if i'm going to have to 'bench' his character till his issues are over.

I have a new players wanted post up.  I'll accept up to three players to fill out the unit, which is why there are so many auctions.

With six new characters (at least three infantry and up to three mechwarrior) entering the campaign i figured you could use a few extra auctions to throw you paycheck at.

Re: Do you want to...

Well yeah, but even if you pick up a suit the biggest problem is how limited you are with what you carry while wearing it...which is like no armour and only a pistol with a silencer or some hand held weapon.

Guns aren't that expensive if you don't get fancy or go the heavy weapons route of toting around a mini-gun all Preadator or heavy machinegun Aliens style.

Re: Do you want to...

(laughs)

Well.

You still have your 'standard' equipment.

Infantry will have to track cost of excessive munitions and stuff like that btw, though things that are mission specific like a satchel charge, will be provided for as needed.

Armor patches, and cleaning kits refills, and what not for 'maintenance' are presumed 'covered' and need not be tracked after you purchase your intial gear...

I'm not looking at MW3 equipment at the moment, mostly because i lost my pdf... again.  If you have specific equipment you want to question me on, let me know and i'll look it up and conver it for you.

roughly...
1d6 = 1L damage
Ballistics (Jams on a fumble {a roll of 2})
Lasers have armor piercing 1 (ignore the first block of armor)

Re: Do you want to...

Cools.

Anything that I end up getting I'll add in all the relevant info from the book and using your conversion bits put that down to so you'll have less to figure out.

On the plus side we've got a more limited set of perks to really choose from unless we want to take Cross training that makes us better on other vehicles.

From what I can tell Infantry get free Well Equipped (aka rank 1) as an "extra" perk above and beyond the three we get to choose or will it count as one of the three.

I'm guessing that the Hazard Checks perk would cover stealth like actions since it mentions their agility?

Re: Do you want to...

I'm thinking stealth target might be based on the targets physical stat (since youre sneaking around) verse the sentries mental stat (to stay alert and spot you), modified by terrain (cover) and distance (I havent decided how much distance nets a 'modifier' yet.

We've just added a new character to the campaign btw, Johan, he'll be added into the unit as a transfer to help consolidate savaged units into a coherent workable force.

Johan, let me know if you'd like to make an infantry alt as well.  Ask questions if you have any, the PDF answers alot, though i'm sure you'll have more.

Re: Do you want to...

In reply to 2nd Lt. Crispin McAlister (msg #962):

I think most of the perks are still useful, you'd be foolish not to get a ballistic perk, considering how common slug throwers are.  Perks for thinks like intiative are still good, as are perks for 'spotting' things or 'hiding' and stuff.

Considering the wide range of stuff infantry have to deal with compared to mechs, you might even consider they have more on their plate than mechwarriors.

They dont have to worry about stuff like repairs though they do have to worry about recovery time, and while they dont have to buy mechs, they do have worry about personal equipment.

It all balances out.  Obviously they'll suck in mech combat, but mech warriors are only marginally good at infantry combat so it works out.

Re: Do you want to...

Would you take Ballisitics when you already have one called Personal Weapons that cover all non-vehicular/non-mech weapons?

And true they are useful but you knock out a lot of mech specific ones if you try and keep the infantry just infanty (or so was my thought in Ballistics, Lasers, Cross Training, Missile Weapons, Energy Weapons, Close Assault tactics -unless you want to specialize in dropping that satchel charge in the foot actuator - and the perks damage magnet, tinker, trigger happy that are more geared to mech specific but could have some infantry aspects)

Re: Do you want to...

I should rename that perk knife fighting or something, it would cover 'melee' and knives and short range stuff like a taser or some such for infantry.

If i was going to be absolutely literal i would make it a vehicle only perk.

Re: Do you want to...

Ahhh I understand now :)

Yeah the only one of the big three (lasers, ballisitcs and missiles) that even mentions personal sized weapons is missiles in your note of LAW's, so my brain didn't equate those with anything but mechs or vehicles if you were cross trained.

Re: Do you want to...

Ballistics = Auto canon and slug throws

Lasers are for mechs and personal sized lasers

Missiles are long, short, and LAW

The knife fighting stuff is for stuff you have to be practically on top of them to use.

Its not just the infantery game. The time and effort i have to take to just plot a turn hunt down the rules for everything each time for all modifiers ect weapon stats and abilities just makes me feel stupid each time my turn to post comes up. The system makes me feel stupid and that makes me reluctant to post so i think its better i bow out.

Re: Do you want to...

Okay i've settled on what the next mission will be.

The Wild Stallions are 'on patrol' and have to cover a vast area of engagement.

The mechs will have to divy up and 'cover' their assigned zones with orders to engage Combine units at 'commanders' options.

One Unit will patrol a wide area with little terrain and coverage. (Quick feet and sniping are expected)

One Unit will patrol a area with alot of foilage and hills. (Jump Jets will be a plus, expect knife fighting)

One Unit will be 'on reserve' and will respond to reinforce anyone that makes contact with the enemy (this should be made up of your most mobile units)

Currently you have...

Enforcer ~ Nate
Whitworth ~ Devlin
Raven-1X ~ Crispin

Blackjack ~ Thantos
Panther   ~ Amos
Cicada     Camille
Fire Starter~Gregory
Valkyrie   ~ Caitlin
Valkyrie   ~ Pegan

Unknown ~ Johan
Unknown ~ ?
Unknown ~ ?

Crispin and Devlin get first choice of assignments (in that order).  Nate gets left overs.

* pouts *

I'm sorry you feel that way Greg.  You're a veteran from Mac's game so i figured you might be use to it by now.  If you feel you'd be happier giving up the game, of course i'll support you on that decision.

How do you feel about Pathfinder (sorta like dungeons and dragons), I'll make room for you in my pathfinder game if that's any better?

For the rest of you, auction reluctantly updated to put Greg's Double strength heat sink up for auction.

Yeah i was kinda expecting i was eased into it by now myself. But even though the systems is quite simple i just seem unable to wrap my head around it.

I know Pathfinder. Just started my own DnD game stealing the combined skills, just love how Mechanics, stealth and Perception open up the way for some more character options then the obliged skills.

Sadly enough i don't find the setting you offer up interesting to me so thanks for the offer but no thanks. Love how you made the elves as they really are though evil lil bastrds :-)

btw dont forget to add that surplus of smokes and booze that will be on offer now :p

Happens, i learned a long time ago that the best of games have to deal with player attrition.  Never happy to see players go but what can you do (shrugs).

Okay Greggy, pulling your Character tommorow, so that anyone that wants to drop you a note, will actually have a chance to get you a note.

Johan please change your avatar, Thantos is using that Avatar.  Do you know what sort of mech you plan to pilot?
