IC: Three Pathfinder Ideas

Hey all,

after one of my PF games just ended prematurely, I want to start a new one in the hope that this game will last a while longer. I'm currently pondering three potential campaigns, with each one on a different level range as briefly detailed and outlined below. Getting some feedback on how much interest is there for which concept would certainly help me to decide and give the player base what they want in return.

The Drow War Campaign

Something evil stirs beneath the island of Chillhame. Dark forces are gathering and the eyes of the children of the Host turn towards the surface, hungry for victory and vengeance. Soon, the drums of war will beat to the footsteps of the advancing soldiers and the ancient war between the Host and the Starborn will begin once again.

The Drow War is coming!

This ambitious campaign is set in the custom setting world of Ashfar and covers the epic tale of the conflict between the Host and the Starborn. The trilogy will take the PCs from 1st to 30th level as they struggle against the drow and their allies, taking the role of the Starborn - the incarnations of the stars themselves, pitted against the evil and darkness of the Host. They will need to seek the truth of their own natures, travel through ancient ruins and corrupt towns, deal with treachery and trickery, cross oceans to forge new alliances, assault and defend cities, take part in immense battles with the merciless foe, and eventually visit strange and dangerous worlds throughout the multiverse.

Pathfinder Society Campaign

This game will naturally be set on Golarion, with the PCs being high-ranking, 12th level members of the famous organization. For now I don't have any grand plans for this game, other than running through a couple of high-level published scenarios that sound exciting and see where we go from there.

This will not be an official Pathfinder Society game, please take note!

Adventure Path Epilogue Campaign

I want to try something different with this idea. If you are not aware, for many years now the officially published APs of Paizo have included a 'Continuing the Campaign' part at the end of the last module. I would like to run a campaign that starts off where the last adventure ends and continues the story. I know that we all would love to play through and finish an AP in its entirety before contemplating something like this, but the harsh reality unfortunately is that most of us don't have the time to do so (or it's just taking too darn long via pbp); especially not with a new AP being released every 6 months.

With some 15 Adventure Paths to choose from (only counting those that got an 'Continuing the Campaign' entry and minus a couple that don't interest me personally), I'm sure that we would find at least one campaign that interested players are not currently playing through or have definite plans on starting. So spoiling the story for this AP is hopefully not too big of a deal.

The starting level here would be between 16 and 20, depending on which AP the players would choose in the end.

So, if you might be interested in any of those, I would appreciate it if you left a comment down below.

Thanks!

In reply to Aenarion (msg # 1):

I’d be interested in the Drow campaign.  I prefer home brew settings.

Oh, definitely feeling that last one because it's so true. Very curious to know what APs you're interested in.

A couple of game-running ideas to throw out there:

Drow campaign - Might be cool to let the players each have 2 characters, one on each side of the conflict. Would be tricky and logistically heavy, but would be really cool to play out the conflict from both sides simultaneously.

Epilogue campaign - Maybe you could run a limited time freeform run through the initial AP. This would be a really abstract freeform where each post from each player covers a whole character level (or more) worth of events. And/or, you could homebrew a flashback rule where the player can some kind of bonus (maybe a 5e style Advantage) on a roll if they write up a flashback scene that describes one of the more important events from the original AP.

The drow campaign sounds great and I concur that allowing for both sides of the conflict would be interesting, although probably much more difficult than just one side.

I like the idea of the drow campaign, though I'm fine with it just being one side of the conflict to give some tension and drama when the other side's plans end up occurring and have to deal with them accordingly.

I am curious to how you'd be treating level 21-30 though, whether you were considering 10 mythic tiers as the extra levels or whether you would be using the widely accepted method of just increasing integers. Or perhaps something even different than that?

As mentioned, I'm pretty much open for most of the later APs, but here is a list for your perusal :)

Curse of the Crimson Throne
Kingmaker
Serpent's Skull
Carrion Crown
Skull and Shackles
Shattered Star
Wrath of the Righteous
Mummy's Mask
Giantslayer
Hell's Rebels
Strange Aeons
Ironfang Invasion
Ruins of Azlant
War for the Crown

Definitely an intriguing idea, but I think this would be quite the additional workload for me. The campaign books have not that many details about what exactly is happening on the enemy side, which would require me to put in a lot of extra work to create and introduce a secondary campaign alongside the published one.
Also, this would effectively double the time that it will take to get through the whole thing, which is already way too long :)

That is definitely something I have pondered as well. Not sure yet what we will use to showcase the original AP, but something should be done in this regard.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Good question. No definite answer as of yet, as it will take (almost quite literally) close to forever to get to level 20 in the first place. Even though I will aim to speed up the leveling process, I have not spent too much time pondering how to treat the last third of the campaign. Either mythic levels, epic levels, or even a mix of the two. Guess I would leave that to a majority vote for the players to decide which option they prefer.

Re: IC: Three Pathfinder Ideas

I'd be interested in the Kingmaker Epilogue campaign. I've not yet managed to actually make it anywhere in that game, so I'd love to play the quick and dirty free form then do an epilogue!

Kingmaker epilogue could be fun, or Crimson Throne.

Re: IC: Three Pathfinder Ideas

Alright, thanks for all the feedback so far!

Seems out of the three, the Drow War campaign has the most interested players. I will start setting up the game over the next couple of days and then post a link in here (as well as the 'Players Wanted' forum) for everyone's convenience.
