Scion- Have Gms had success on RPOL with first visiations?

second question about Scion.  I have run a few Scion games on here, some with great success, some not so much.

Have other Scion GMs had success starting the game with a player's first visitation?  or does that slow the game down too much?

I'd like to hear from people who have run it on RPOL, since this setting changes how games run quite a bit, and whether or not it worked.

I tried that route once and once without. Honestly worked better in the time without, but it seemed almost forced.

that's sort of my concern.  Starting the game with the visitations gets the characters more fleshed out and starts the game moving.  But it also keeps the players separated for a long period of time, where players may fall off.

the alternative is to just jump start it, but then it often feels forced and players ma not know where they stand in the game.

trying to decide how I'd start a game before I decide if I want to run it.

Well let me put it this way. Get a good group together. Of players you know arent gonna ghost on you amd ask them. If they are semi-willing to run Visitations then run them. If not ask them how they got together. Make them do some of the less forced part of it.

If Cyrus knows Neo and Neo also dated Trinity then that is how Cyrus knows Trinity. Or some snot like that.

That was one good thing about the companion and starting at higher levels you had to really think about hows and whys.

In reply to Knight_Vassal (msg # 4):

I've played before, just not in PBP format.  It as a FTF game and the first four-hour session covered everyone's RP'd visitation and action needed to meet-up with the others.

Here, all the visitations can happen at once in their own threads... just post often and try to keep them short... then bring them into the main thread at a predetermined location (a ghost-town, a gas-station in the middle of nowhere, a Mall parking lot on a day it's closed, etc.), at mostly the same time... Those with a longer visitation (or slower post rates) arrive later than the others...

A trick to get them to meet-up is give each scion a location and part of a letter that can only be read when all (or most of [with gaps]) the pieces are brought together... and maybe make the first few outings a treasure-hunt for some of each scion's birth-rights... using torn-up/sectioned, written/word maps they have to trade to complete (Guides can help if none of the maps can be completed, and extra (copy) pieces of the maps can be found with each of the birth-rights to fill in the remaining gaps)... no one can find another's birth-right, or their own, with just the pieces they start with... all the while, they are being harassed by minor titan-spawn...  I know, it's cheesy, but it helps build the scions into a team...

Also, be ready for attrition once the visitation happens. I've found a lot of RPOL games enjoy a fun intro, and a 'hey, look what my character can do' moment, and then you lose 2-3 players who just drift off after those things happen. Keep people in the bullpen, perhaps with visitations of their own handled via PM or just with a narrative to swap in and fill out the roster.
(Just my own 2 cents)

agree with CrazyIvan777.
I started pre-visitation with everyone separate.  Each had something after them and managed to survive, get their visitation and invitation to an event.  That was when everyone started to drift.  Their interest seemed to be going stronger when they were doing individual stories.

well, not sure why this thread resurrected, but I already started the game I was thinking through.  Ended up not using the visitation.  It's going well so far, but I've already run into a bit of attrition.  Par for the course on this site.

With attrition comes the opportunity for new heroes to step-up...

Care to post a link to that game?
