Just like to get a gauge of interest in a game using the A Song of Ice and Fire RPG

In this universe Robert Baratheon didn't win the Battle of the Trident and as a result a lot changed as an outcome.

Robert himself was killed at the Battle as Rhaegar defeated him. As a reult others were either killed or sent to the Wall. So some of the Major Houses changed as a result.

Most notablly and in this can be player Houses are the likes of:

Storm's End; Since Robert was killed and Stannis and Renly were both sent to the wall a new family rose to govern then Stormlands.

The North: Ned Stark was also sent to the Wall but only due to Rhaegar's love for Lyanna. She still died but  the child lived. In this also Catelyn Tully was of course without a husband .

The Riverlands: Now in control are the Frays as the late Walder Fray suppported the Targaryens when it was evident they would win.

The Eyrie: Jon Arryn was put to death as he was one of the main conspirators. Lysa Tully was forced to leave and head back home.

The Lannisters-They also sided with the Targaryens once Robert fell. Though Cersei of course never became Queen. Her outcome could be decided in game.

Rhaegar is the current king and a Turnament is about to commence to decide who will marry Daenarys.

Jaime: Is in exile in Essos. The charge is still the same. Kingslayer.

So who would be willing to try this sort  of Game of Thrones adventure.

I think it's wise to keep a SoI&F game tight. I think you should make an effort to make sure everybody is on the same page as to where you're going to start and what type of game you're going to run before you begin.

Looks like a good setup.  Could be all or most PCs from Storm's End, either in whatever house took it over or 'friends and family' to keep the story tight.

I concur on keeping it tight. If it got large though I could add a second house down the line with either the Eyrie or Winterfell as those are also open for new Houses. Or fill these with NPCs.

Also there will be a couple of changes to certain characters. This will be done in an effort to prevent spoilers. I want the game to be available to all including newer fans of either the show or the books. Myself I would like the game to be more based on the books though.

As mentioned one big thing will be the tournament. I have the corebook s well as a couple of the supplements so can pull this one off. I know one of them has a expanded rules just for the event.

I do like the thought of the players able to be part of a Major House. Even though it may be a newer House. And also you will be able to play if you want Natural born characters as well. this will make it where a Baratheon or another could still be out there. At some pint I hope to gt the Night's Watch supplement. At which point if players want we can also have a setting there to see how that looks with of course Ned a member.

The last part is I would like to make the game Mature to make it open for all age types in game. Since most of the books and even show are shown around the Young Adults persperspective I can see it as a popular age.

So seems this is popular so now my Watch begins. (Aka getting the setup ready.). Mostley this wiwill evolve around the Houses and the way they look in this setting. Especially House Targaryen.

Is this in the tv universe? If so ignore my further issues below, the HBO version of the series is certainly much simpler and will likely work just fine for the game

If the books, I'd say run it how you like but if you want a SoIaF nerd's unsolicited opinion:

quote:
Storm's End; Since Robert was killed and Stannis and Renly were both sent to the wall a new family rose to govern then Stormlands.

The Targs are known for raising up former enemies a lot once oaths are taken and hostages (wards) given. Why would a roughly seven year old kid (Renly) take the black? Such an action would very swiftly lead to a lot of people considering Rhaegar (while an improvement on his father) a thoroughly cruel person. The Baratheons are not only Rhaegar's cousins from Aegon V's time but are a house descended from the Orys Baratheon, Aegon I's baseborn brother. And have risen in rebellion before.

I agree even as a teen Stannis would not bend the knee and would likely end up at Eastwatch for his trouble. Placing House Connington (Rhaegar's truest friend besides Arthur Dayne) as controlling lord over Renly until age of majority and keeping him on as an overseer until Renly produces an heir (hilariously unlikely and perhaps something the equally gay Jon Connington would realize is fruitless) would be a strong political move.

And the PCs can still be Stormlanders either sworn to the occupied Baratheon house or to the Conningtons or even just around the Stormlands.

quote:
The North: Ned Stark was also sent to the Wall but only due to Rhaegar's love for Lyanna. She still died but  the child lived. In this also Catelyn Tully was of course without a husband .

The entire North rose up in rebellion to follow Ned south so without him on the seat you'd have . . . Robb Stark just barely of age with his mother as regent, and likely a veritable army of northern wards in the south. Mess up the timelines (have Ned flee north when the Trident goes wrong to bleed the Targs at the Neck) and you can even have a Sansa growing up as a hostage of Rhaegar?

What would be especially painfully obvious is that you'd have the Dustins and the Ryswells alive (being a few key members of the ill-fated fight at the Tower of Joy) meaning the former First Men kings of Barrow and Hill (and possibly the first Kings of the North before the Starks (blood of Garth Greenhand and therefore Southern First Men in the Dawn Age)) are alive, allied with the Boltons (their fostering of Domeric, half Dustin) and have a period where the Starks are weak like no period before

quote:
The Riverlands: Now in control are the Frays as the late Walder Fray suppported the Targaryens when it was evident they would win.

I think by now you've realized I'm a nit-picker of the highest order.

No one likes the Freys and a Riverlands under them is going to be a rebellious one. Lysa and Catelyn are still alive, Hoster's probably dead (he was after all the man with the army that backed the other three in the rebellion) so if Walder Frey controls the Riverlands did they move into Riverrun, or make it a cadet branch of the Freys held by Stevron (the firstborn and most level-headed) or some other Frey who might have a daughter to marry the young Edmure.

Either way a betrayal by one of their oldest allied houses is going to be a huge hurt to the Targs and handing off lordship of the Trident to the 700 year old upstart mercantile house is something that likely is going to need exploring in the game

quote:
The Eyrie: Jon Arryn was put to death as he was one of the main conspirators. Lysa Tully was forced to leave and head back home.

Lysa's another prime marriage candidate, and if Edmure's secure in the Riverlands consider who needs rewarding/keeping placated in your new shakedown of the world.

As for who became lords, it's fun to remember the good old Royces are potentially alive, prickly and have possibly been waiting since the Arryn's threw them out of their seat at the Eyrie for 6000 years.

The Corbrays are opportunistic enough to try and just switch sides when the fight went the other way at the Trident. And another gay lord for the map if Lyn just starts assassinating his other family members.

quote:
The Lannisters-They also sided with the Targaryens once Robert fell. Though Cersei of course never became Queen. Her outcome could be decided in game.

Good. I have nothing to nitpick here. Tywin alive is better than Tywin dead and the question would stand as to whether he's Hand like he was to Rhaegar's father, or if Connington was made Hand instead. Or Arthur Dayne (Kingsguard have served that role before)

The death of Rhaegar at the Trident triggered the setting off the wildfire plan so I would wonder why Jaime killed Aerys but . . . let's just say there's not much prodding needed where old Tywin's concerned. Pretty sure Aerys and Tywin could find a reason to set each other off

quote:
Rhaegar is the current king and a Turnament is about to commence to decide who will marry Daenarys.

Also great.

quote:
Jaime: Is in exile in Essos. The charge is still the same. Kingslayer.

Despite everything above, honestly I think this sounds like an amazing writing opportunity.

I' m thinking the books as though I liked the show I'm a much bigger fan of the books(though wish George RR Martin was finished them:)

I actually forgot how young Renly was to be honest. So yeah, he'd be alive, a ward to the the new Bannerlords till of age. Connington was one I saw and made sense. Though so does Selmy. As Barristan was one who stood by the Targaryens as well. I liked the Conningtons mostly as a lot to work with.

Now we know how Renlay was but he could be willing to father an heir for one reason, to continue his house nam.e Though there are several natuarl born children of Roberts(king or not he got around ). and Stannis also had no heirs it would leave it to Renly. It seemed he had considered this possibly by Marrying Margaery, but was killed before it was done.

I admit I like the thought of Sansa being alive. Perhaps Rhaegar allowed Ned to remain but with one condition. Robb was taken as a ward to House Targaryen or one of the Northern Houses that now follow the King. One thhought an could be an interesteing twist would be the Greyjoys or even House Mormont. This would of course help if the condition is Robb would be Lord once of age. Again a lot of this is is due to Lyanna. Also Ned 's code could hlep as well.

I saide the Frays, and did mention Walder but there is no sasying he survived. I like the thought of Stevron as the new Lord. He is in Riverrun. Edmure is one that could be a possible match for Cersei. Though I have one other in mind there.

The Royces over the Eyrie is a valid ideal. And makes a lot sense.

Now comes why Jaime did kill Aerys. He saw something that he didn't like or that hint o f madness. Or just cause Aerys held him back(he wanted glory) or whatever but knew Rhaegar was the best was the best choice as King. It also mens Jaime is out there and can be a potential ally or foe at some point of the players. \\As for Cersei I thought strongly of this and think her and Viserys could be married. I know there is a gap in age but still it's aplausible one. Granted it means Joffery may be crazoer tjam ever"-

Amd yes. Tywin is hand. ,
Now one last thought I haven't forgotten is Rhaegar's child. I won't reveal who to avoid spoilers but this could be a big change. And will of course require a lot of work. Since Lyanna died Rhaegar may just claim the child a antuarl bith to aodi conflict witht he Martells. This one obviously is where the story will require a lot of input of what to do.

I don't mind nipicking as it helps make a solid game.

I read all this and am STILL interested :). And thanks for keeping it all spoiler-free from a writer who's never seen the show and only recently started book 3.

Not a prob. In fact looking at writing options see one for spoilers so if need to put could use that.

All that  being said I feel I got what I needed and will get the game going.

Is there a way to do links? New to site so not sure. That way can put game link here.
