I'm considering GMing Shadowrun 5th Edition, but set in the early 2050s with 1st and 2nd ed adventures with some other rp and runs in between.  Any interest?  I'd think 4 or 5 characters, would need to be experienced in SR and trusted not to metagame any of those modules.

As someone who didn't get introduced to the game until 3rd edition, and thus has never really read or played through any of them, yes, that sounds like a fun idea.

Having not played any of the old modules, that could be fun!  Though would we be restricting available gear based on some of it not being invented yet?

Yes, that would be correct, a bit more neon and mirrorshades than current Shadowrun.  The plan would be to still use 5th ed rules, so the tech would be a little bit behind but all that would be missing is some of the Wireless benefits with everything but the decking, and we can sideload in some of the bioware (just about anything other than nanotech) since that was being introduced by the early 50s.  I can kitbash the 2050 rulebook (The one from 4th) to update that to 5th Ed Rules if I get a dedicated decker.

I love the idea behind Shadowrun, the world, the setting, but sometimes the rules feel a bit clunky. A retro 5th Edition game sounds interesting though.
