Anyone up for a Forum for Developing a New Marvel RPG!
Since it is most likely on the way and being developed by FFG most of the forum would be for fan created content for the Marvel Universe using some, none or all of what FFG has supplied for their games in the past. But it doesn't have to be all for FFG based ideas older versions of the TSR are in play. The goal would be to create a system, focus would be on system that truly incapsulates the Marvel Universe as well as recent developments in the MCU.

A lot would be discussion on what the best way to create an actual super game would be. Generally a community for the creation of a game that would capture the essence of comic books along with the obvious ownership of the Marvel MCU universe.

I could use a few co-gms as well. Cheers!

Anyone up for a Forum for Developing a New Marvel RPG!
Hello, I'm not sure if got it right, but, if you want to develop a compatible ruleset, that already exists, is free and is ready to be played: https://gurbintrollgames.wordpress.com/faserip/
If you want to develop a setting, then there is plenty of room to create new things.

Anyone up for a Forum for Developing a New Marvel RPG!
Thanks Yaztromo but this would be a ground up or serious modification of what FFG is doing. Right now as it stands if any actual Marvel RPG comes about it is in the hands of WoC with D&D bigger than ever I don't know why they wouldn't but after Marvel Heroic and the ridiculous licensing agreements Marvel and Disney have I don't know if anyone will try it. RPG are just not very profitable you have to be very conscious of how you create your game from a marketing standpoint.

Second in line although they laid off almost all their RPG team would be FFG whose Marvel Champions card game is killing it, and with the framework of being able to develop an RPG such as Warhammer 3rd edition and Star Wars along with their own generic line.

Its all speculation Super Heros don't lend themselves easily to rule sets but even on rpol the continued freeform game and story telling have always been popular. I have reached out personally to Corey Konciezka, and Jay Little,  FFG,  Marvel's Licensing department and a bunch of other writers and designers have tired to keep in touch with through the years.

It does seem like FFG has something in the pipes and that is fine, if I can aid them with play testing our development I would it isn't about the money but a real passion for game design and Marvel comics. Advanced Marvel Heroes got me into RPG's before AD&D and I always wish there was more to it.

Im lucky enough to be in a position to dedicate some serious hours to the project, and the feeling that something is coming our way lends me to want to have distinct separate focuses for the forum. Ground up new rule set with marketing aspects and a focus on developing a hero system using FFG dice and framework for hero development and rule mechanics.

I have a few ideas. I don't mind sharing them but I would like a dedicated group of rpol members that take it somewhat seriously. Not that you need to post X amount of times a day. But that everyone respects one another and the ideal that we are trying to bring something to life that has had a really hard time maintaining since the Silver Age of RPG's the late 80's and 90's are back so why not Marvel RPG's?

Plus who doesn't want to playtest Spider-Man against the Sinister Six or the Fantastic Four v.s. Dr. Doom or new faces that have hit the scene like Miles Morales stat line and facing Electro while trying to finish a physics exam!

I will rmail all that are interested once the forum is up.

Re: Anyone up for a Forum for Developing a New Marvel RPG!
No this is pretty serious attempt at a group up design. From what it looks like although I believe Marvel/Disney controls leaks FFG can not express the are aiming at production of a new game. WoC has no desire it seems and I donít see why thy would. Itís expensive no one may wish to actually take up a new contract.

That said I would have half of the forum for FFG alterations and use of narrative D6 D8 D12, but not like heroic version and ground up ideas for gameplay. I donít believe D20 suits supers at all quite the opposite. Thatís part of the interesting challenge of a good Marvel game how do you address XP and what keeps the game feel like you are developing not just endlessly battling evil.

I have some ideas I hope you do to. Iím sure everything is dealing with the situation out there differently and this forum is going to have simple guidelines no rules for posting rates and such. I should have it up by this coming weekend. Itís a great time to be a Marvel fan and play tests are always a blast to watch and be a part of!

See you soon!

Re: Anyone up for a Forum for Developing a New Marvel RPG!
Interested.

Other than being a superhero game, the first thing would be to decide what type of game you want... one that's quick and easy to learn and play yet has a lot range. It has to accommodate the original Daredevil as well as Ego the Living Planet.

I'm not sure why anyone would dislike a d20 game, other than assuming that means a D&D variation. If it's a dice rolling game, then any type of dice should be valid, whether it's a bucket of d6s, 2d10, or 1d20.

The alternates are a card-based game (using a standard deck of cards) or bidding game (point pool that you spend points to accomplish what you want until you run out of points).

Those are the only options I can think of off the top of my head.

I assume that they meant not D20-System, which is specifically games created via the D20SRD - including M&M.

In reply to StarMaster (msg # 10):

Sorry on my phone lately to clarify not the D&D D20 system, dice are fine but a majority of the focus would be utilizing some form of story telling dice as FFG as well as such ideas as Boost D6 Difficulty D8 and Proficiency like D12s, although I like the narrative aspect of FFG I do wonder about power levels another great problem with Marvel games and endless debates. I think at least the original TSR addresses this as well as any but the focus of FFG with the MCU champions card game seems to make each character really equal in its own way, and although it makes me cringe a bit the idea does lend itself well to sales and a opt out of the entire power level argument entirely.

I just donít know if the 1-5 rating system for attributes shows enough breadth for supers 2 being average 5 being max. All things to think about and work out in the forum. Thanks for the level of interest and even if someone wants to work on a D20 idea in the forum I am
Not going to ban a thread where ever the forum goes you canít stop creative momentum and why try? :)

Re: Anyone up for a Forum for Developing a New Marvel RPG!
It does seem as if a 1-5 range is a bit limited.

Then again, it's not like the 3D Man would really face off against Galactus.

Maybe the solution would be a sliding scale. Heroes, Superheroes, Cosmic Heroes. And there's the super-widgets: Cosmic Cube, Ultimate Nullifier, etc. to even the playing field when necessary.

Yep, I'm explicitly referring to a distaste of all games that are derived from the ruleset. 1D20+Attribute Mod(of which there are 6 specific attributes)+(Skill or Level or BAB) with or without dis/advantage rolls. Wash, rinse, repeat.
  • I'm cool with buckets of dice
  • I'm cool with success per dice or with pool vs. total TN
  • #realdistributionshavecurves

Ok, so the last one is a bit of a joke, but yeah, basically linear distributions bore me to tears, among many other objections I have.
