at 19:46 | A Possible Story Set In Exandria? DND 5eAs the title states, an adventure set in Exandria using 5th Ed. The main premise would revolve around The Five Blades of Ochir Naal. Each a magical dagger, one for each chromatic dragon, forged by the Ancient Sorcerer Priest. I will not go into much about these now, but finding them and discovering their uses and powers will be the focus of the campaign. It will not be easy as each of the daggers was hidden throughout Exandria. That and the PCs will not be the only ones seeking them.
The PCs would start at 3rd level to give them plenty of room to grow and allow them some ability to travel. So what I would like to see if there would be any interest in such a campaign and get some input on how and where to start.
For example, would players like to start out in Tal'Dorie, Wildermount, or split between the two? I could see everyone starting on the same continent or starting on each, as I do not want to limit a player's creativity or race/ background choices. This should be a very long campaign. I want the payers to enjoy their characters to enjoy the campaign itself better. I will be limiting the game to 6-8 PCs. My son may also be a Co-GM as there will be many side adventures and the War between the Dwendalian Empire and Kryn Dynasty as a backdrop.

I agree on not wanting to limit people overmuch, but you could also say it's on whichever continent and people can always make someone from another continent who has traveled (or been magically/accidentally) transported, etc. from where they started.
Though, I honestly think Wildmount is a bit better since the Kryn Dynasty is there plus the Empire, and that's where the official book is set (though there is the previous book made through Green Ronin as well).

at 21:44 | A Possible Story Set In Exandria? DND 5eQuite the interesting setup, should be a lot of fun. I think there is enough potential interaction that a character from either continent could end up on the other so I don't see a problem with character backgrounds in that regard.
Wildmount is probably the easier to start from but truely either works fine in my opinion.

I just got a copy of The Explorer's Guide To Wildemount last week, and it looks good. I agree it would be a better place to start. I also like the idea of characters from Tal'Dorie coming across, perhaps even having been in Widemount long enough to be settled.
After thinking about the starting point of the game, I've come up with this idea: the PCs are an extraction team from The Kyrn Dynasty seeking to rescue a fellow citizen from the clutches of the Empire. This way, you will all have a reason to be together from the start, and you as players can collaborate on the team's make-up. This also lets you try out the new PC subtypes in the book.
During this first adventure, the PCs will become aware of The Blades.
I will allow PC classes from Tal'Dorei like the Cobalt Monk, The Gunslinger, and Bloodhunter. The Wildemount book has a great method for constructing backgrounds, so we can use that too.
Next question, do you all have the Wildemount book? Not necessarily a dealbreaker, but it would be great to have. :)

Hey there! If you have the book, that should be enough info, and that is where we will start. The campaign's timeline will be about the same time as Mighty Nein, so your characters may hear rumors and such, but it is doubtful that you both will meet unless I get too diabolical and have them chasing the blades as well.
Now then mayhaps we see if we can pick up two more at least, and in the meantime, you all can talk over classes/ backgrounds and such. If you have a class like The Gunslinger, let me know so we can figure out how you arrived at Wildemount. From my reading, firearms are restricted to the military in Wildemount and not as accessible as in Tal'Dorei. I will probably use the premises of the book's adventures but revise them to take into account your higher levels and make them more campaign-centric. :)

Also, if any of you have more questions or suggestions. One thing to decide is rolling for abilities or use a point spread?
The basic premise is long ago, when the Scaled Tyrant was banished and imprisoned, a follower sought a way to free her. He was a great mage who had somehow survived the Calamity. His name was Eth the Veiled. He crafted a mighty greatsword and enchanted it, so it held the essence of all five Chromatic Dragons. One of each had to be sacrificed for their Queen. He then researched a ritual so when cast on a certain day, when the myriad planes were the closest, the sword could be used to cut and tear the very fabric between the planes, thus releasing the Scaled Tyrant upon the world once more!
Yet, those who followed Platinum Dragon found out about the plan and stopped it. Through great lost life and magic, Eth was slain, and the sword was taken. Eth had made the sword well, and the dragons' essence made it and its wielder invulnerable to most kinds of damage. So the blade could not be destroyed, but to leave it where others may find and use it was also not an option. It was then that a mage named Ochir Naal found a solution. He created a spell that would separate the sword into five daggers... in turn, these daggers could be separated and hidden in faraway places, for even Ochir Naal knew that the daggers could be rejoined with the proper spell. Two daggers became a short sword... another made a longsword... a fourth a bastard sword... and finally a fifth the greatsword renewed!
So the cult of The Caustic Heart has found out about these daggers and is seeking them out. The players now must seek them too. It is a race against time...

I do not have that book at present, so no at this time. I hope that the players will take backgrounds and PC subclasses designed for Exandria to make it feel more connected to the setting if that makes sense. I will allow anything from Xanathar, PHB, both books from Exandria, and any subclasses such as The Gunslinger or Blood Hunter from the DM's Guild as these were designed by Matt Mercer. Now I'm planning on getting Tasha's at some point and may add elements from it as we go along. I hope this helps. :)

Yes, we will be using those tables. If you know certain things about your character, hometown for instance, you can choose that but other things can be rolled randomly. We will be using other house rules, some out of Tal'Dorei campaign book, as well. :)
