IC: Gothic Fantasy Chthulu Dark- Adult

I have an idea for a small game- 3 to 5 players that would be heavily inspired by Bloodborne aesthetic/Lovecraft. It would be adult due to potential gore and other adult themes and content. Chthulu Dark is super lite and not at all combat focused. (Chthulu Dark has no combat rules because if you have to physically confront the horrors, you have already lost.) This would be focused on investigation, exploration, and character interactions. How they try to keep the flames of their own humanity burning as the darkness and its denizens loom... Mysteries, human and eldritch horror, madness and even death (both of which are real possibilities so players need to accept that  a PC may not make it to the end) may await in a world we will flesh out together during the course of the game.

It takes a lot for me to touch Adult games with a bargepole, but how do you envision Bloodbourne (& A-rated heavy gore) elements in a no-combat game? Could you elaborate a bit?

Thanks for the question! Characters would use knowledge, rituals, etc. Investigation and research, explorations, talking to each other and various other characters... Discover the thing, identify, finds its weakness or how to stave it off, find out what is going on and how to stop it, do that and hopefully in time to prevent things going straight from bad to worst. Players may not always win— maybe they miss something or maybe thy just don’t get there in time— but they will at least have a chance if they use the right tools and not weapons. And they may see things... I prefer adult mostly to have adult players or I would be okay making it mature instead but again I want adult players. I hope that helps!

So...it's magic rituals that are causing the gore? Trying to fit the story of someone whose absoloute purpose is to be a physical hunter of the ambiguously-corrupted Other into the normal-except-no-combat-ever CoC game you seem to be describing.

Considering the age of players isn't relevant to their maturity I assume fishing specifically for adult players is a "high liklihood of sexual situations" thing...if it's not about the sexual situations & there just are a bunch to make it "adult" (cf. Stephen King novels) I don't think that's going to be quite my jam, though it'd probably be quite popular with folk coming in from freeform. Good luck!

It would be more like the traditional Call of Chthulu game where you are more investigators than playing the hunter from Bloodborne if that makes sense. More like being part of something like Byrgenwerth where you have a scholarly reason.to investigate if that makes sense. Bloodborne may be an inspiration in terms of aesthetic and vibe to a degree and perhaps some lore-type stuff. So yeah it is basically CoC but with a simple system and a different setting. :)

I appreciate the input! I may make it mature but for my comfort and because some of the horror may go into R-territory (like The Thing or Aliens) I may keep it adult. Would request that any sexual content fade to black for this game now that I am thinking about it. Totally cool if characters want to share a moment of togetherness but I think it’s enough to know they shared it and with such a small cast waiting for such scenes to conclude could slow things down. Thanks again for the input. :)
