Mystara. The Known World. The Grand Duchy of Karameikos. Threshold. Aleena. Bargle.

For old-school gamers those names should be familiar. Mystara, or the Known World, was the setting created for the BX, BECMI, and Rules Cyclopedia editions of D&D. For those unfamiliar with the setting, it is a bit pulpy, a bit gonzo, and a bit Weird Tales, but it's also a lot of fun.

We will start the game in the village of Threshold, in the Grand Duchy of Karameikos. Be aware that the Known World is far more cosmopolitan than most bog-standard D&D settings. There are no inherently evil races. There are also quite a few races in the Known World that haven't been printed inside the pages of a D&D book in decades.

This game will be a character-driven sandbox that will hopefully be roughly balanced between interaction, character development, exploration, and combat. Immersion and story are far more important to me than the rules. I have a zero-tolerance policy for power gaming and min-maxing. All options from Tasha's are available.

There are quite a few old-school modules set in the Known World. These will be available if the players choose. But the Known World is far more than those few classic modules and the Grand Duchy of Karameikos. As mentioned, I want to run a character-driven sandbox, but a few side adventures to some fan-favorites could be fun.
