Mongoose Traveller

Hi all! Are there people on this forum that play Mongoose Traveller? I recently got my hands on some of the books and I'm more than keen to run it.

I'd be looking to run a classic Traveller campaign, exploring abandoned alien worlds, trading with criminal scum, and rescuing the missing pets of local nobles. Would that work for anyone?

I only own the second edition, so it would be using that. I'd also probably arrange a sort of communal setting creation alongside character generation, so we end up with a world that suits the game we all want to play in.

Is Mongoose the best version? I read reviews of the different ones, but it's been awhile, so I don't remember.

Mongoose is a very impressive version with great artwork. I also appreciate that you cannot die during character creation in Mongoose. Instead, you are hit with various penalties when you get bad rolls while generating your character.

In reply to Bob29 (msg # 18):

'Best' is a matter of contention. Some people swear by Classic Traveller, others by MegaTraveller, yet others by Traveller: The New Era. I'm not aware of anyone who swears by Traveller4 or Traveller5. Mongoose Traveller blends aspects of Classic Traveller and MegaTraveller, and has the advantage of currently being supported. A lot of people have gotten into (or back into) Traveller thanks to the Mongoose edition, so it's all good.

The original Traveller is the only one I've played and that was in the late 1970s.  :)

I have Mongoose Traveller 2e and slight experience playing it. I am very new at PbP so I am not committing to anything now, but I like the game and enjoy making characters for it.

I've been reading about and playing traveller for a very long time. I'd be into giving it a shot.
