Modern Urban Fantasy systems?

I have a story/game idea, involving a murder mystery in a modern urban fantasy environment.  PCs would be human or low-powered supernatural types  so "gifted" humans... (but definitely not full-on monsters).  The story would have some heavy involvement with the fae, though what that means is wide open to interpretation and how it might be modeled by the system.  The story is likely to end up being a pretty strong investigative procedural.

I'm real familiar with Dresden Files classic & Dresden Files Accelerated, but I'm wondering if there are other game-systems that might be worth exploring for this.

Any recommendations?

If you want to check out PBTA, there's Urban/Modern/Fantasy, which is a toolkit for the Dungeon World mechanics.

World of Darkness/Chronicles of Darkness might also be a possibility, with Changeling the Lost.

GURPS handles everything in varying degrees of 'excellently' to 'adequately', depending on the group's tolerances and the setting switches the GM employs.

Monster of the Week (a PBtA game) is more aimed at things like Buffy and Supernatural, but the range of character types fits well.  And I don’t think it’s that far off.  Worth consideration , I think.

Nothing wrong with Chaosium. Either BRPS or CoC could serve well enough or even Strombringer if you are felling salty. There was also a tiny game released by Dreampod9 back when called Tribe8 that might work here as well!

You could do worse than choose Esoteric Enterprises as your game engine.  I'm currently playing in such a setting and enjoying it immensely.

All right, thanks for the suggestions.  Most of them I'm already familiar with (and I'm using a lot of the metagame set-up from Changeling: the Lost!)  I'm going to check out PBTA, as I haven't had any experience with that system yet...

In reply to jait (msg # 8):

If you are looking at PtbA systems, especially for a murder mystery, it would also be worth checking out City of Mist. Though the players may be more "supernatural" focused, as they have some aspect of a mythology in their soul, it is designed for the noir, urban fantasy mystery game.

If you're familiar with the Dragon AGE RPG... which I'm not sure whether you should be but your username looks familiar enough that I might have had you in one of my games--they later made both Fantasy AGE  and Modern AGE. If you settle on Modern AGE I'm in.

The basic CofD book is much more useful than C:TL for playing (mostly-)normal humans if you have to choose one (if you don’t then go nuts).

City of Mist looks glorious!  I want a physical copy but damned it's expensive.

ModernAGE looks like it's easy to grasp and likely a good bet to get up and going really quickly.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Re: Modern Urban Fantasy systems?

I know I'm quite late to the thread but if you are still searching I would reccomend Unknown Armies if you're looking for something with a really unique feel or Dark Streets and Darker Secrets if you want something more simple but with a lot of built in tools for generating content for your game.

GURPS, Savage Worlds, d20 Modern with Urban Arcana, The Modern Path (Pathfinder Modern pretty much) with Urban Arcana and some adapting, or any Supers RPG could work.
