Ooh yeah.  And the City from A-State, and Berlin from Hot War Cold City.

It would of course depend on the setting, but yes there are a fair number of settings that I would like to game in that either had a system I didn't like or there is a systems that I prefer to use.

Are you proposing a freeform game in one of those settings?

Mostly free form. In such cases I use a d6 to determine how it goes when I need an element of surprise.

I like the idea - would like to do a FR or SW game in Freeform!

I specifically want to play a Cyberpunk game that doesn't use any iteration of the Cyberpunk RPG. I am hoping for The Sprawl

I'm surprised Rifts hasn't been brought up. So I'll bring it up. :)

The Sprawl as in the setting of the books? Not sure I'd know much about that, as it has been ages since I read them.

Rifts I don't really know much about, unfortunately. Never had the money to get into it.

In reply to Ramidel (msg # 9):

Oooooh - never thought of Rifts!

I was a heavy Rifts player years ago & have plenty of books on the setting but lost track after workd book 22 or 24 i think.

That game can be rules heavy but i think a knowledgeable GM could pull it off Freeform if familiar with the setting.

I once played an excellent GURPS game that turned out to be  based in the Shadowrun Universe just as goblinisation began.  Sadly the GM was unable to carry on.

Er... no? I thought this was about using a world with a different system, or a system with a different world. I'm not aware of the game I mentioned having a setting. I've seen it as a Powered by the Apocalypse game. I think it should power a game in the Cyberpunk world.

Yeah The Sprawl is loosely based on the setting of the books, except that you can basically make the world as you want to.

Few years ago I started running Blackmoor with a much simpler ruleset and I found out that it can really work, so I wish you the best of luck too!

So, looks like the best setting to try with very ow rules/freeform would be Faerun and something cyberpunky.

Im for Faerun - i have so many ideas for characters but it would depend on where on Faerun the game is set & year.

Most likely somewhen after the darn Spellplague. If you are looking for a specific adventure or adventure path it can be arranged (yes they do work freeform,I managed a while agoin a real time game).

Ugh, the Spellplauge...Its what made me stop playing the game altogether - no clue to what came after that fiasco but i can research it.

Haha yeah in my Faerun I mostly ignore it. I consider it some weird battle of the gods which didn't affect normal people nearly as much as the books made out.

Easy enough to make it before that time though.

Before would be good - 1374 or before. If Cyberpunk, i would have to do some serious reading on the setting.

I once set a steampunk game in a much later Faerun in which goblins ran the railways from Waterdeep to the Silvery Marches.

If you are willing to put in the time and effort you can pretty much move any setting to a different game system. Some are easier to do than others of course, but it is possible.

As for Faerun I'd start before the Time of Troubles and just play organically, don't assume what happened in the novels happens in your Faerun....I remember when the original boxed set came out, and how wonderful it was to read the material....lot of good there...

Same with Oerth.....start with the box set (the original one) and then just move from there ignoring the subsequent novels etc...

FR game will be set up in a bit. I am considering one or two more but need to get my other games running first.
