(IC) Shipwreck Survivors type game
Just checking to see if there is any interest in a Robinson Crusoe/Swiss Family Robinson style shipwreck survival game.  'Survivor' but in the age of sail, no immunity idols, no weekly games for rewards, no TV audience :)

I grew up with both of those stories, the idea sounds fun, struggling to just survive, and later learning to thrive.

Do you have an idea on system?

I have a home brewed system for another game in a similar time period that should be suitable for this concept.  Percentile dice for resolution, players have a standard set of attributes, Strength, Intelligence etc and then each character will have a set of skills and specializations depending on their background.

Are you thinking of a more social sandboxy type of game, or some GM-led plot?  Maybe a bit of Lost mixed in with your Gilligan's Island?  :)

A combination of both.  I am putting together a series of pre-planned encounters (weather & other natural events + potential interactions with other people), to be interspersed with periods of player driven activities.

I think we would probably need 4-8 players, assuming there will be the usual RPoL dropouts/ghosting as this is not the kind of game that will have regular opportunities for new characters to join.

Gilligan's ISland had new people show up and leave all the time :)

Or do it the Lost inspired way and they show up riding a Polar Bear.

In reply to CaptainHellrazor (msg # 7):

New players could be survivors of another shipwreck…

Is it worth setting up a game?  How many people are actually interested in playing as opposed to just discussing the concept?

I've done something like this before, with mixed success.   If memory serves, I had the players first create their characters in Traveler d20 before they landed on a D&D type world.
