While the initial idea was combining it with the scope and feel of Dragonball Z, it came to include concepts from Cultivation works of fiction and many other things.

It takes place roughly half a millennium in the future. Think Star Trek, and you're at the appropriate basic technology level.

The basic premise is Ranger Corporation is recruiting after a substantial loss of personnel against the bad guys. Ranger Corp. is similar to the many other organizations you see in PR/SS and other such narratives. It is responsible for the current level of technology and clean energy source.

On the flip side, you could liken the Rangers to the Green Lantern/Nova Corps. Intergalactic peacekeepers armed with a powerful item on top of their martial prowess and ability to use their inner energy. That powerful item is a Power Gem. A fitting name but only a placeholder if something better comes along. They focus the energy of the Morphing Grid by amplifying the user's ki, moving through and over in the form of a crystalline armor matrix.

How much knowledge of the shows would be required? Or just a general idea of what the genre is about work?

The basics of Super Sentai are simple enough, but I can tell you I will be breaking many conventions. The most significant source that I will be pulling from is the latest comic series by BOOM! Again, no knowledge is necessary, but that is unquestionably the sense of style I'm going for.

The system is Tri-Stat Core. So if you have BESM4 or Absolute Power that just came out, you're golden.

Oh dear I only have TriStat3. But really interested ^_^

I'm a little rusty, but I'd be down to dust my copy of BESM 4e off, pose dramatically, and take up the cause of Justice.

Super important question though: since we've lost a bunch of heroes recently, do Rangers also dramatically fall over and then explode when defeated, or is this more of a "blasted out of your transformation" kind of affair?

Oh, right, if the PC's are being brought on as a new team, should I expect a pretty tight theme shared among them?

The latter. Since the suits are made of crystal, pieces break off for dramatic effect. So, when defeated, it shatters.




This is one of those genre-breaking moments I mentioned. There is no theme like animals, dinosaurs, cars or the like. Instead, the shared theme is martial arts and ki.

No worries there, just trying to get my head in the right gear before I start trying to brew up any character ideas.

Not sure how that is genre breaking. Pretty much defined.. ninja force I think it was.and considering part of the inspiration for such things is usually seven samurai, journey to the west etc. Not so far fetched ;)
