1. Anything not crushingly boring, but more specifically I've been wanting to see a Gue'Vesa game, only limited homebrew is required since there is a Tau book for RT. Honestly it's better to just pitch what regiments you want to run rather than leaving an open ended question like this. Like if in your mind the options are Cadians or Kriegers it's not going to be terribly helpful if someone wants to play a bunch of Lathe rough riders on mechanical gargoyles (like me). 2. I know as much about this as a normal Imperial Trooper. 3. The game is sort of weird when compared to normal wartime tropes. Personally I would explore a "Why do we fight?" story line (which counts out like half the possible enemies. Look at the consequences of going rogue either as a Squad, Company, or Regiment.

Thank you for the feedback! My problem is I have too many ideas. I could run vanilla regiments (or slight variations), or I could go wildly off the wall with Cyborg Drop Ogryns or something and still have fun, so I appreciate having other people's suggestions to narrow down the scope of my ambitions to a more reasonable scale :D I really like the idea of a Gue'Vesa one-shot or intro segment. My IRL tabletop Guard army is kitbashed Gue'vesa made with all of the leftover bits from helping my brother build his Tau army. I don't have my Rogue Trader books anymore, sadly; otherwise, I might be willing to run a longer stint.

could be any time period whether fall of cadia or earlier could focus on their lives as they are thrown, willingly or not into the meat grinder that is Imperial warfare.

If you do this make sure you are unrelentingly cruel in terms of logistics. We all got to hand craft our regiments it's the least we deserve. I had though about a slightly different version before where you are a bunch of dudes from different regiments that were left at port due to Munitorium rounding errors over time (there are 1257829 men in this regiment "meh, a transport holds 1250000 it'll be fine." type things) just to get rid of them they would form them into regiments and send them out as something like the 000th Munitorian.

Ultimately, I've not much to add to it, as I usually run Specialists anyway in Only War, hence I'm a bit skeptical about doing a Gue'vesa game, that's the kind of thing that's hard to run a good campaign for without flanderizing anyone involved I feel.

Messing around with vehicle units can be fun. I played a tanker once (not here, the game I tried here never got off the ground) but rather than a good tank like a Leman Russ, because that's a bit too much gun for the early game, our regiment was from a lower-tech world and we were driving something based on this particular piece of glorious idiocy: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wi...tank_IWM_MH_8102.jpg Heavy Stubbers instead of Bolters (four of them), an autocannon for a main gun and a great deal of optimism instead of armour. Fun though!

That's a reason to steer into the gimmick stuff not the other way around. Doesn't matter if you turn off a few people with the concept, there are more to take their place. Less true with OW than with d20 games but still mostly true.
Playing a specialist doesn't exempt you from regimental culture. I'll beat people over the head with that side bar until the sun burns out. Not sure the point you are trying to make about flanderizing characters. Like even in a Gue'Vesa game, it's going to come up that you are in the Tau empire fighting for the Greater Good a lot. But reasonably no more than how often you mention the Emperor and the Imperium in a normal game. All of the normally available war tropes still apply even if your government is slightly less dysfunctional.
