With Fire and Sword

Thinking about running a game based on the historical novel "With Fire and Sword", i.e. in the 17th C. Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Looking for a system and resources.

Dzikie Pola was a Polish RPG set in this era, but it was never translated to English and I'm not planning to learn Polish. As far as I know there are no English RPGs or sourcebooks set in this historical period.

Can anyone prove me wrong?

The only resource that comes to my mind is GURPS.

"Low Tech", Fourth Edition would cover the equipment of the period with a fair amount of historical accuracy.

The older Third Edition Source Book "Swashbucklers" has resources and cultural elements specifically for the 17th century, and elements can probably be borrowed or modified from the "Russia" and "Age of Napoleon" books as well.

Best of luck!

I like GURPS. I think it’s your best choice.

That said, if it’s flintlocks and cutlasses, any system that mixes ranged combat with melee should work. Examples are Starfinder, Stars without Number or the Star Wars Saga system. You’d still have to find rules for sailing ships…or just hand wave that.

Omnihedron Games has published Duty & Honor and Beat to Quarters, which deal with the British Army and Navy, respectively, during the Napoleonic Wars. They might fit the bill.

Warhammer Fantasy Role Play would encompass the era as well, although perhaps it's a little on the primitive side for 17th century gunpowder? GURPS is a good choice.

Flashing Blades by FGU is set in the same time period but in France, a swashbuckling game about The Three Musketeers.  Out of print though.

Chaosium's Basic Roleplaying System is GURPS-like, meant for use in any setting. Not sure how 1600s-specific it gets.

Thanks everyone.

Does anyone have experience with Codex Integrum (https://codexintegrum.com/) or Sword and Scoundrel (https://www.grandheresy.com/#sword-and-scoundrel-home)?
