Tips? Tricks?

You could always have your players roll a bunch of times in advance. Roll "to hits" (however that works out for the game you are playing), "dodge" or "reistances", "perception" and so on. All the things you expect them to have to roll fairly often.
Say 20 times each. Then, as those rolls come up, you can simply ask them what ones they want to use. Or you yourself could choose/randomly roll from those pre-rolled numbers. Could probably speed up combat.
Or maybe do freeform or some "lite" way of doing combat for most of the fighting, and then just have them do the "end boss fight" as per the usual rules.

Since the dice roller is random and person agnostic, it doesn't matter who makes the roll. Would allow you to speed up things significantly since you wouldn't have to wait on each player.

I used to use this idea for Star Wars D6. When I got bored, I would just start rolling dice or a die-roller to generate numbers for certain situations that the PC's don't know what they're rolling for.
