IC: WFRP but using Mythras

I'd like to add that, obviously, interest waxes and wanes depending on type of campaign/story we want to tell. But system-wise this sounds intriguing! Just don't want to come off as if I'm promising something I'm not :)

IC: WFRP but using Mythras

Of course!  I definitely want to have more of a conversation in the game itself about what kinds of things people do or don't want to do in this campaign (you can toss out ideas here if you'd like, but I wan to make sure that anyone who gets recruited through the eventual PW post rather than this thread here gets to also be part of it).

IC: WFRP but using Mythras

I got my free pdf copy of "Mythras Imperative" here: https://preview.drivethrurpg.c...9/mythras-imperative
As I already have an account there.  You can pick up a lot of good free RPGing stuff there.

IC: WFRP but using Mythras

In reply to Dr. Mindermast (msg # 6):

Would there be homebrew 'cultures' to represent the different regions of the Empire as well as the other nations?

Also, what kind of campaign would you be looking to run? One of the 'big' campaigns such as Doomstones or Enemy Within or something different, such as running a mercenary company?

Yes.  Right now my plan is that Empire would mostly be the same culture, with one of the culture skills changing depending on region.  Maybe the culture-based combat style too.  I'm not planning to stat out non-Empire cultures ahead of time but if someone wants to play a "foreign" human then we would definitely work out that culture as well.

Dwarves, Elves, and Halflings will be separate cultures, probably just one for each race, and I need to reread the Mythras rules for nonhuman PCs.

I would prefer to do our own thing rather than one of the big published campaigns, though if there's popular demand for one of the big published campaigns and I have a copy of it then sure, we can do that.  As for what "our own thing" might look like that would depend on player preference.  All I have in mind right now is that we're starting out in the Empire.  Could be a mercenary group, could be some wannabe merchants (breaking out all the extra trade rules from the WFRP Companion), could be the traditional "everyone rolls a random career and you're in the town square when orcs and/or beastmen attack!"  Or whatever else we agree on.

Re: IC: WFRP but using Mythras

I'd prefer our own thing over published adventures, but can do published too.

My interest would be non-existent for 'bunch of people roll random characters'. Not my thing at all.
I would most prefer if we have a string of connected stories set in the same area. Maybe we're all members of some local knightly order or something and have to protect the land, or we're doing high politics in the court of Altdorf, or we're a company of dwarves in the mountain trying to map out old holds. Anything flies, but much prefer for there to be some theme and ideally that we're sticking in the same area and have recurring NPCs that we start caring about. A troup of witch-hunters could be really fun I think.

None of this, except randomly rolled characters, are deal-breakers for me :)

Re: IC: WFRP but using Mythras

I'm pretty much open to anything.  But truth be told, I too would prefer we did our own thing as well.

Confusedius, what do you mean by 'Random characters'?  Mythras allows you to allocate Characteristics roll results to fit a Player's desired concept.  Or are you saying that beforehand the Players should find out what details they can concerning the GM's Scenario.  Then create PCs that would best work together in that situation?

Re: IC: WFRP but using Mythras

My original comment, which I'm guessing Confusedius was referring to, was about the standard WFRP practice of randomly rolling your character's career and then everyone has to figure out why a noble, a rat catcher, an elven emissary, and an apprentice wizard are all adventuring together.

But RPGHawk does bring up a valid point - do you all have a preference for stats to be randomly generated vs point buy?  My own preference is random, but we don't have to do it that way.

Re: IC: WFRP but using Mythras

Yeah, I was talking about totally random careers. I don't mind rolling for characteristics, aslong as we get to assign the results :)

And yeah, would have a preference for some collaboration between GM and players, have us craft a story together. But that's just my preference, can do a less themed/focused story as well.

Re: IC: WFRP but using Mythras

Mythras's suggested Point Buy is to distribute 75 points amongst the 7 Characteristics, Minimum 3 (8 for INT and SIZ), maximum 18.  Which is crazy to me.  85 points would seem to be more reasonable to me.

Re: IC: WFRP but using Mythras

Right now I'm leaning toward random rolls and arrange as you like (between stats that have the same roll).  For nonhuman races that have different stat rolls I'll probably decrease starting skill points to keep it at least sorta kinda balanced.

For campaign theme, I feel like we already have a few good options upthread, so maybe let's just choose from one of these?
1) Mercenary company
2) Up-and-coming merchants
3) Witch hunters (although, given the power level of capital-letter Witch Hunters in the books, I'm leaning more toward "deputized locals who have some legal authority but not necessarily the same resources as the big officials")

Re: IC: WFRP but using Mythras

I'd be interested in something like this. The Mercenaries idea speaks the most to me, but I'm not opposed to Witch Hunters, either.

Re: IC: WFRP but using Mythras

More or less unanimous, so that's easy enough :)
I guess the next question would be if you all have any preferences for specific enemies that you are or aren't interested in dealing with (so e.g. if everyone is sick of orcs then I'll make sure not to focus the story on fighting orcs).

I still need a little time to finish setting up the game (there's the slight problem of my actual job getting in the way of my gaming time) and then I'll post a link here when it's ready.

Re: IC: WFRP but using Mythras

A twisty and malicious figure behind the scenes with a personal agenda which disregards collateral damage ought to occupy a place on the menu. Sort of like a desert which we all know is waiting but we must wade our way through the rest of the meal first...
