IC - Warhammer 4e in Tilea

TOO LONG; DIDN'T READ
Are you interested in a WFRP 4th edition game...
  • Set in Tilea, Republic of Verezzo, port city of Portomaggiore
  • Using material from Up In Arms and Winds of Magic
  • New player friendly
  • Fast paced (1 post per day ideal, 1 post every other day minimum, from each player)
  • Goal of playing one scenario to completion

Hello. This is my first gaming related post on RolePlay onLine. If I get anyting wrong, or I'm violating a forum convention or something, let me know.

I would potentially like to run a Warhammer play by post game (4th edition) set in Tilea, Republic of Verezzo, in the port city of Portomaggiore.

The idea is all PCs would be from Portomaggiore, or have lived there long enough to consider it "home". At a player level, the idea is for each player to create a charater who wants to protect their city and its people, and want to see their city improve and the lot of its citizens improve.

There's not a lot of published, official, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplaying material about this location. So, as players create characters, we will work together to create some of those missing details.

I would prefer a faster paced game, with each player posting every day if possible, or every other day at the slowest. I would expect to provide at least a post a day, if not more, depending upon the context.

I've run WFRPG 4th edition in person three times. I have never run it play by post. I have only run play by post games (other systems) on either Discord, or once on another TTRPG focused forum. I have never "completed" a play by post game - where my definition of completing is finishing one scenario, at least.

The game would be new player friendly, and I consider myself still a new GM to the game. I would be using material from the core 4th edition book, Up in Arms, and Winds of Magic.

So, who is or might be interested in such a game?
Do you have any questions I could answer to help you decide whether or not you are interested?
Do you have any suggestions about the game, or feedback on what I wrote above?

And, should I be concerned about WFRP 4E for a play by post game? Do you think there's something about the rules that make getting a game up and running and keeping it sustaned difficult?

Think it is just harder to get things moving.  Lot more to do when generating a WFRP character. Could be better here.  Other games were on different sites.  2 on RPG net and one on Roll20.  The GM ghosted on 2 of them.  Must have gotten busy and just bailed.  Pretty sure he was a College kid.  Probably got over extended.

From my experience, the issues are chiefly on the GM's side, either by not maintaining a reasonable pace (Going either too slow--or worse, too fast).  You'll never find a lack of players for Warhammer games here, as there's lots of demand but little to no supply.  This presumably adds to the pressure.

If you've run it before successfully though, that's a good sign.

I'd be interested.

I love the WFRP setting though I admit my experience is far more with 2e and even 1e. Still I'd be willing to try! :)

Thank you, Alectai, for the pacing advice.

As I said above, I've run a handful of Warhammer 4e games, and never in play by post. But, given enough interest, I am willing to give it a try.

I've run a bunch of successful Warhammer 1e games too, though it's been years. I didn't engage with Warhammer 2e at all. I ran several successful one-shots with Warhammer 3e as well.

I'd be interested in joining as well.

I'd advise coming into PBP-running, be ready for some drop-out.  Perhaps accept 30% more players than you intend to be long-term players and be prepared for narrative tweaks to explain characters shifting in and out over time.

Thanks.

And I appreciate the advice on anticipating and handling player drop out.

I appreciate those who have expressed interest in a Warhammer 4e game set in Tilea.

I have carefully considered it, and I have decided to shelve the idea for the time being.

I think my lack of experience GMing Warehammer 4e generally would make it almost impossible for the game to get up and running, let alone run to a satisfying conclusion.
