IC: Fallout (2d20)

Hello all!

I've been away for a while due to unforeseen circumstances, but have returned with an urge to run something.

With the advent of the Amazon Fallout series, I'm thinking it might be a good time to see about a Fallout campaign. I'd be using a couple of the existing adventures to begin with, and branching out as we go. I would just need to know if there would be more interest in West (NCR (Fallout: New Vegas area)) or East (Commonwealth (Fallout 4 area))?

Also, while I'm tempted to just go with the Core rules for now, I've seen a few things in the supplements that may lean me to using anything and everything. Thoughts on this would be welcome too. :)

I would be VERY interested in this! I watched the tv show, I started playing the video games, and a friend of mine said he was going to run a game but then he bailed, so I have the books and would like to try out the system and setting. =)

I've been looking into the Fallout 2d20 system for the same reason, but I've heard some troubling things. According to one review, it's basically a Fallout coat of paint applied to a pre-existing system, with certain elements forced into place in a way that impairs gameplay.

Do you have any experience running or playing the game? If so, what are your thoughts of the gameplay?

I've got some experience running it. It's pretty bad, honestly. The 2d20 System doesn't really fit Fallout at all, and they tried to legit replicate Fallout 4 gameplay at a tabletop, which is not only undesirable, but doesn't even work right.

That said, I can't really say no after I spent that much money on the books and have been jonesin' for some Fallout. :P All I'd really want to ask is that we tone down the amount of food and water necessary to human levels rather than the videogame and RPG's 20000 calorie and ten gallons of water requirements. I exaggerate but not much. XD

I would be interested in giving it a go. Haven't read it, but I've read and played Conan 2d20 and currently taking a stab at Dune, so I don't think it will be that hard to adapt.

Also played Fallout 1, 2, Tactics and 3, so I think I have the lore part covered XD

Fallout 2d20's a blast, I've played it several times and run it once.  Don't be afraid to give Overseer Action Points and don't be afraid to spend Action Points from the pool.  The metacurrency must flow...to parody Dune.

So, not having played it, I can't provide any feedback on the system - but if you find it's not to your taste, I've played Fallout games in other systems:
  • Once, using a percentile-based fan-made Fallout RPG based on the old isometric games. I don't recommend that system, since it's an amateur job that's a bit too faithful to the design of the computer games rather than tabletop (or play-by-post).
  • Once, using Warrior, Rogue, and Mage, which I also don't recommend because that's a very simple system designed for fantasy and doesn't adapt well to guns.
  • Once, using d20 Modern, which I thought worked pretty well (since d20 Modern is a pretty generic system), but good luck finding a group of d20 Modern players nowadays.
Why do I bring that up? Not because I recommend any of those systems, necessarily, but because I think Fallout is relatively easy to adapt. The Fallout setting, despite its zaniness, is pretty intuitive and can probably be run in any system designed for modern or futuristic settings - so if 2d20 isn't your thing, don't be afraid to use a more familiar system.

I think the best system for it, and probably the one with the most support, is Savage Worlds. There are a couple Savage Fallout adaptations and they're really well put together. But I think part of the point is that OP has Fallout 2D20 and wants to give that book some love rather than use something else.

Honestly I would be up to using 2d20 to see how this one works instead of another port. Including d20 Modern... sadly as much as I wanted to love it, it was too 3.5.

Not only that, there's Deadlands: Hell On Earth Reloaded, which has similar vibes and is thus easy to steal from, and Savage RIFTS. They also finished crowdfunding a new version of the Science Fiction Companion, so that will be coming out soon. There's a lot of support for a Savage Fallout game if that's where you want to go with it.

There is definitely enough interest, so I'll get the basics of the game put together for folks to submit their concepts. :)
