GURPS Banestorm New World Hexcrawl

Premise: Imperial wizards in Magalos have determined that there is an as yet undiscovered continent far to the east.

An expedition has been mounted to brave the eastern sea to find this mystery land and discover its secrets, establishing a colony if it's deemed worth the effort.

For those who don't know GURPS:

It's cool, I'll help you make a character. The mechanics are dead simple once you have the sheet worked up.

For those who don't know Banestorm:

Imagine that 10th century humans from all over earth were dumped into a fantasy setting with elves and dwarves and what-not and basically rebuilt their kingdoms in a world with magic and dragons.

Megalos is sort of a later-medieval Roman Empire.

In Practice:
The game will proceed on two fronts, exploration and community management. The PCs will only answer to authority a two-month sea-voyage distant, and have considerable latitude in deciding what goals to pursue and how to pursue them.

Ask questions, state interest. I'll make this happen if I can get at least 5 interested people.

Sure. They're pretty rare, so I'll probably drop an Unusual Background on them, but I don't see why not.

I always liked Banestorm from 20 years ago, but never played it. It would be nice to dust off my extremely rusty GURPS skills as well. A double win. Count me in.

GURPS Banestorm clearly states that the form practiced in the known setting is the basic GURPS system, but there are a lot of options for magic in 4e - Sorcery, Ritual Path Magic, Powers-as-Magic, etc - that did not exist when Banestorm came out.

So what I'm going to do:

The Old World: Basic GURPS magic,perhaps using styles from GURPS Thaumatology: Magical Styles.
The New World: Maybe something else, you'll have to find out in play.
