Willpower

Willpower is your friend, and the most important stat you possess. You can use it for many different things, but you will find it is much easier to spend Willpower than it is to get it back. Here's how it all works!

You have 10 WP points. That's way more than most average humans, as St. Trinians girls are so much tougher than normal people. You can't raise your WP score using XP, however. 10 is your limit!

Why is Willpower so important? Because this is how you defeat people, as much as anything. St. Trinians girls are viscious, but they are just schoolgirls all the same, and they don't kill people. You defeat enemies by lowering their WP so far that they flee or pass out. And they will want to do the same to you! So spend WP wisely!

How can WP help you?

* You can spend 1 WP to add 1d6 to any roll. You can do this three times on any roll.

* If you win a combat, and have not been dropped to Battered or Trashed, you immediately regain 1 WP.

* If you want to start a fight with someone, you need to spend 1 WP. However, if someone throws the first punch, you don't have to spend WP. So it is far better to goad your enemies - and a lot more fun!

* To perform a Ritual to Invoke the Goddess and create Magical Energy, the recipient of the Energy must spend 1 WP at the start of the ritual. Even if the Ritual fails, the recipient loses the WP. But if it succeeds, the cost of 1 WP for a load of magic is well worth the risk!

* When using Religious Studies to create a Zombie, you need to spend a Willpower point.

* Willpower is vital for summoning Demons. (See the Magic thread for details on how this works.)

* At WP 4 or less, you will need to start spending WP to perform specific actions. See table below for details.

How can you lose WP?

* Being hurt in combat will chip away at your WP. If you fall to the Battered health level, you lose 1 WP. If you fall to Trashed, you lose a further 2 WP. Being beaten up...hurts!

* Being humiliated costs WP. A mild insult may cause a sall drop in WP, but if you are publically insulted in front of the whole school and have no comeback, you may find that 2 or 3 WP points are lost as you cringe in shame. Don't give your enemies a chance to humiliate you, and especially avoid letting your friends get the chance to stab you in the back! Paranoia is a survival trait at St. Trinians!

Re: Willpower

Effects of Lost Willpower

Your Willpower is more than just a pool of points. It's a measure of your self confidence and mental resolve. As it is drained, so is your confidence and force of character. When your WP is low, remember to reflect this in your roleplaying!

There are also some mechanical effects. See the table below to judge what is happening to you!

Willpower Level Table
10 You feel great!
9
8 You stll feel great!
7
6 Your greatness level is wobbly, but you are still rocking!
5 You're fine, but are sure you have felt better than this.
4 Your confidence has taken a serious battering. You are less likely to take the lead or volunteer to start new projects. It now costs you 1 WP to begin a new endeavour, such as building a new devce, earning a new skill, or performing a lengthy ritual.
3
2 You are now depressed. It costs you 1 WP to be involved in anything at all, even if you are just tagging along to go to the movies. You really don;t want to do anything at all, and would much rather stay in bed.
1
0 You are now almost catatonic. You have no desire to do anything at all, and have so little confidence, you doubt your every decision. With no will to resist anything, you will do anything you are told to by anyone; you just can't help yourself. You won't do anything that is aganst your moral code, such as kill someone or jump off a cliff. However, you will take any option that allows you to do nothing. So you can't be told to commit murder, but you won't lift a finger to stop one happening in front of you either.

Re: Willpower

Regaining Willpower

Willpower can be regained n a number of ways:

* Downtime - St. Trinians is a chaotic place, and not very restful. You may at times have a chance to rest at the school between escapades, but it will not automatically restore all of your Willpower points. You'll get some bac, depending on indvidual circumstances.

* Success - It feels good to do well! If you roll a success on each dice in a test, and the action is still a success (in contested tests) you are allowed to roll 1d6. If the result of ths roll is equal to or less than the skill level you used, +1, you regain a Willpower point. So, if you use the Biology skill, and have Biology 3, then your target number is 4. If you roll 4 or less, then you gain a Willpower point. This means that as your skills grow, it is harder to impress yourself, but when you do, it feels so much better!

* Help From Your Friends - At the cost of Willpower to your friends, they can try to talk you out of your slump. They have to really try hard to cheer you up, so roleplaying this out is essential. You also need to spend at least an hour hangng out together. Also, you must have more than half your own WP left to do this - you can't cheer someone up if you feel a bit low yourself.

Everyone who does this can spend 1 WP of their own, and the subject who needs cheering up receives 1 WP in return. However, if someone who considers you to be a Rival makes the effort, they can spend two hours or more working to cheer you up. They then spend 2 WP, and the recipient can receive 3 WP in return.

* Schadenfreude - When people fail, it can feel good. So if you participate in plans to strip someone of their Willpower, it is a great way to get some back. When you are part of a group that participates in a plan that results in someone else losing 3 or more Willpower points, in any way except for combat, everyone in the group receives 1 WP.

* The Last Straw - At the point where you are at your last ebb, you can call on your last reserves to strike back. WHenever you take a WP loss that would reduce you to Zero WP, you can roll 1d6. If the result is a 6, instead of being broken, you are galvanised. The loss you would have taken is instead added to your WP score. So, if you have 3 WP, and suffer a loss of 5 but manage to succeed on your Last Straw dice roll, you now have 8 Willpower instead of none at all!
