Re: Safely In The Real World: OOC

Loved your Players Wanted post !  I want to go to Bartertown 5 too !  We can reminice about the Human-Elf War ("my grandfather was on the Line !") and laugh as the Orks and the Dwarves jockey for political advantage, while the millenia old conflict between the T'skrang and the Wildlings threatens to destroy the fledgling peace ...

Aw, thanks!  When I think about it, I think I loved B5 and Earthdawn for a lot of the same reasons - they have a similar kind of legendary feeling.

I have sent some invitations to a couple of people to see if they're interested in joining us here.  If we can get just one more, I think we'll be good to go!

Re: Safely In The Real World: OOC

OK, I found us a fourth!  You can now play Bridge!

...that was the goal, right?

Everyone welcome Feydra, the mayor's own daughter.  Welcome her now!  Nicely!  Be sincere! whipcrack

I just sent an rmail to a possible fifth.  If he's interested, I'll give it a little time to get him set up too, but either way I'll plan to start up again soon!  Five would be nice, but four is enough.  Especially these four.

I do want to say that, having thought about it, I'm not sure I want to solidly promise a weekly rate on this game -- I think trying to jump into that for both of my games at once might be setting myself up for failure.  I'm going to really try for at least every other week here, though, and if I can do more, I totally will.

They don't have to. It's not like they matter to me, or anything.

*makes mental note of each person there, what family they belong to, whether they seem nice, how they are looking at her, what they happen to be doing*

Welcome aboard Freyda!
Once we have you settled in and ready you are welcome to join me and Yona in chasing Peck with a stick whip.
It’s going to be lots of fun and perhaps there’s going to be cake!

Re: Safely In The Real World: OOC

Oh, here's a thought -- did I remember to talk to you guys about shifting to Fourth Edition? It wouldn't change anything you've done so far.  Skills and Attributes are all at least close enough to just leave alone.  But I know some of you got, like, 3e character creators or something and may have planned to use that in the future or something, so... if you want to stay with 3rd here, we can definitely do that.  But since I'm moving my other game to 4th, it would be a little easier for me to keep things straight if I did the same here, if no one minds?

Re: Safely In The Real World: OOC

To Feydra: Peck is our classmate PC (if he is still around), a potential love interest of Yona and currently my designated choice of victim. He's in training as a weaponsmith.
I'll quote myself when my mentor suggested we'd go pester Peck and his mentor in the smithy: "If she's teaching Peck her day can't get get any more difficult...
But I'd certainly be willing to try!".

GM: I'd be hoping we'd switch to fourth Ed, but looking at my sheet I see we have gotten no talents yet. So there's nothing keeping us to one edition over the other yet...
Although I would probably like to rehash or revamp my character/skills a little and go from there.

I have no idea what the differences are between third, fourth, fifth, and the dark side of the moon.  So I'm okay with whatever version we are using.

Re: Safely In The Real World: OOC

@Ariadne: Oh, I see, well that sounds like a perfectly lovely way to spend a day, then.

As for Editions, I am fine with whichever. I certainly understand not wanting to give yourself brain-strain juggling two rather different versions.

By-the-by, does anyone know how many years since emerging from the kaer we are? Asking for background reasons so I'm not way off in whatever I'm working out in my head.

Re: Safely In The Real World: OOC

@Feydra: Beats me.
As far as I recall I could never even remember how old we were as PC's.

I do however remember that we were never in a Kaer.
It's just a village that passed the Scourge in complete obscurity.
No magic around and so nothing for the Horrors to feast on.
And all of a sudden several adventurers showed up and promised to teach us magic.

Re: Safely In The Real World: OOC

link to a message in this game

There was a Kaer, but it was way before our time.  The villagers retreated into the Kaer, then came out when Scourge ended.

The weird thing is that some of us dream about the Scourge (or something very like it), even though it's too long ago for anybody to remember (well, anybody our age).

Hmm, okay. I wasn't sure because the school is just now going up, but as stated in the game, it wasn't an immediate priority. And, well... dearest Father probably didn't see the point in rushing it since Namegivers don't even hit puberty until twen... oh, no wait... that's just elves. Nevermind. I guess that was a couple name-giver childhood cohorts. Oh, well.

I know that Yona is almost 16.  Just a couple of weeks away from it.  Which means, of course, that she knows everything that's important about anything in the whole world.

Re: Safely In The Real World: OOC

Waves a warm welcome greeting to Feydra.  :>

<grins> One of my favourite RPG quotes is from Shamus Young, which might be pertinent to our current discussion:

Sure, it can be bad when you realize that one of your players has been zoning out during crucial moments. But, the real horror sets in when the players who have been paying attention try to explain, and their perception of your gameworld is so different from your intention that you almost don’t recognize it as your own.

Peck isn't a people person - not that he doesn't try, he's just not good at people.  You can't take them apart to find out what makes them work.  Well you can, but everybody tends to frown at that sort of thing.

And like Yona's player, I'm unfamiliar with Earthdawn in all its forms, but more than willing to give 4th a go (hey, it can't be as awful as D&D 4th and with any luck it doesn't have either sticks or whips on the equipment list).
