Re: Out Of Character Chat
Perhaps this is a good place and time to discuss our characters a bit.  This way our characters might complement one another a bit.

As starting characters we are all at the beginning of our careers, so unless one of is a noble with a title none of us will be very high up the social ladder.

Well if you roll the Order and get a noble/royal order advantage you could start as a Knight. Knights are social level 9. It seems Pier is a surgeon.

By the looks of it we have a Gentlemen and a Noble. As the others have taken the high road, Gaunoux will take the low road. I shall be a Rogue.

Perhaps at some point we shall all find ourselves in the military if we become bored.

Gaunoux struck the leader in the head for a total of 10 points. That his certainly enough damage to have knocked him out. Given that you had already shot him for two points of damage it is likely the leader was dead or dying.

No problem with what Jean did to the leader, just trying to get things in perspective. Pier's posts are responce to the other posts, ie let them go, they are too much bother, the brigands flee etc. If their leader was taken out by Jean, Pier has captured another brigand. Who's been disarmed and questioned by him, whilst you loot the killed leader.

If you roll below half what you need to hit you cause a serious wound. You add that to your damage.

Gaunoux thrusted for a base of 4 points and then rolled a 6 on his extra d6 for a total of 10 points.

Hope that makes sense.

That is the sort of thing best handled outside the scope of the current scenario.

The only characters who start as part of something like this are the gentlemen and the soldier.

The others will likely have to return to paris and then make plans, and die rolls for joining and eventually obtaining promotions. Many careers require years to gain a promotion, although certain events might speed such advancement.

Let's stick with what we have going. Being a musketeer is his thing. But since many characters. Seems to aspire to the musketeerd perhaps they could roleplay a bit more perhaps asking about life in the muskeers. Let's use this scene to roleplay.

Thanks but that wouldn't be fair to the other player unless he became a Subaltan too, which is the same issue as us both being sergeants.

I don't know... I guess I can have Gaston quit the Musketeers. Actually that's probably the best solution since at least he'll have a definite identity ('ex-Musketeer').

Re: Out Of Character Chat
Gaston's PC

I am a bit confused. The Three Musketeers is a story of three members of the musketeers, but rank is never an issue. Characters like people are more than a job or a rank. I was thinking another Musketeer would actually help you explore some military themes, such as brotherhood, loyalty and honor.

The two rogues in the game have very similar skills, but there are surely to be many differeces including personality and goals.

Why not be open to exploring the options?

Here is my two cents. Being in the Guards,be it Horse,or one of the Foot Guard units was a status in of itself. A simple trooper could have more influence then some officers in a regular regiment. But as far as rank is concerned, unless one is on duty or campaign,it really did not matter. The Black Musketeers was a band of brothers..All for one,and one for all...

In reply to EX GM (msg #91):

I guess my issue is that while Gaston might have that sort of equal relationship with the other Musketeers they aren't they only ones in the party. With two high ranking nobles, a gentleman and fencing master Gaston is very low down the totem pole. If it were a Musketeers only campaign that wouldn't be a problem but as it is more Musketeers just means Gaston looses the distiction of being the groups Musketeer while still being a nobody socially.

I figure that if he leaves the Musketeers he'll at least have that to help him stand out.

Re: Out Of Character Chat
In reply to Gaston Laroque (msg #94):

I will give this a shot once. Gaston IS a member of the most elite outfit in the entire French army. Just being a stinking private in the Guards let alone the Black Mustekeers is boasting rights. And he can get away with alot because of that status. Any other members of the group that happen to be Musketeers are brothers. Athos was a Baron,Porthos and Aramis where Gentlemen, but they where friends and brothers. Social rank is VERY important in this time period, but the Guards was one of the few places where background did not matter so much. They where Musketeers, they all wore the black coat, and beloved by the King. As I said before,a band of brothers.

I shall run my mouth again. Gaston,if you want to become more then you are currently, suck up to the Duke, he is your ticket to break out of your current social level. It was called toadying. It was an accepted practice to seek out a "Patron" , one higher on the social scale and be seen with him,and seek to gain his favor so he might help with ones social climb. Welcome to 17 century France.

Yes to provide an analogy, it's like the group consists of Law enforcement officers, two from the CIA, the nobility Tow from the NCIS the Musketeers, and Two FBI Vice the rogues and One NSA the Gentleman/Lawyer they have been brought together by either a Senate Investigation Committee or the Head of the CIA to conduct a investigation into Organised Crime. Working together may have its ups and downs however considering agency protocols, agenda and such however seeing how the group has been handpicked all each has advantaged to bring to the task at hand.

Thanks for the replies Gaspard and Pier. I appreciate what you are saying but I still feel I'd rather have Gaston resign from the Musketeers for the reasons I've said. I know that being a sergeant in the Musketeers is more prestigous than being such from any old unit but even so part of his identity in the mixed group we are having was being the Musketeer. With others joining I think he looses that.

Obviously it might be difficult to resign Gaston's comission in game terms but that's what I'll be working towards.

Well Isaac decided not to play because he feels he stepped on your toes. Now let me explain something. both The Duke and The Count are becoming Musketeers and will buy rank to be Gaston's equal or superior officer. Also I plan on running a military related mission after this. We are going to be hip deep in musketeers because it is a musketeer influenced game. So don't go quiting so you can be unusual.

Gaston,

Pier thinks it best not to intervene in this situation at present. Being visitors in Genoa, he suspects his station will have little standing here, considering the frequency and levels of society they locals are sure to have previously had with French Nobility. At best any influence another French a Nobleman may try use would probably be as common as the number of capital crimes the Magistrate has prosided over. He'll wait until called by the Magistrate to testify/

Re: Out Of Character Chat
After a five days on the road the Archduke's agents have managed to make good speed. Pendu had pushed the horses and with the two musketeers as outriders the others were bale to tend to the Count, who despite their care had begun to weaken further. It seemed a race to get him back to Paris before he sucummed to the poison.

Luckily when they arrived in Marselles the King of Theives had sent for a specialist and offered to take care of the Count and send him on to Paris if he survived. He hinted that he would said he expected a favor someday in exchange someday but given their companion's condition it seemed the best choice.

With Marsailles in behind them things appeared to be looking up when a group of riders behind them kicked up a cloud of dust as they kicked their horses to a gallop.

LOL I did not expect such a fast response.

Life is a bit more settled. Let's finish this shall we.

Need a post from Gaspard versus the clumsy attackers.

PS we are in Lyon.

It seems he already made a roll to throw a dagger at one of them, Boss. But it has been some time since I rolled it. I can do it again, if you wish.

Re: Shall we

I really miss this game. I rp'd my first Flashing Blade game back in the 80's and GM one soon after. Fond memories, indeed.

I placed an add in the GM wanted a couple of times, to see if anyone would be willing to GM a FB game, but no takers. Oh, well, perhaps some day..

  Hello,

I saw that you came on to read what I said. I was looking at my old games and decided to post on here for old time sake.Would you be interested in GMing a Solo Flashing Blades game with me as the character? This is my favorite time period, and rping game.

I figure it was worth a shot at asking you. Either way, thanks for running the old FB game, for the short time I was involved. Happy Holidays.

Re: Shall we
Saw your post and wanted to address it.

As you saw one player asked if I would consider running a solo game. I considered it thought it a good way to see if I was up to run this game again.

After some thought I came up with an idea that would work and agreed.

So for now the game will restart as a solo. If that goes well I will consider additional characters. That said I probably would want any characters to be non noble. Just too hard to run for such high born types. So if I do admit more players some character changes may need to occur.

This choice was not to make others feel left out or some how not good characters, it was to allow me a limited return. Hope that makes sense.

Re: Shall we
It was a valiant effort GM. Thanks for trying again.

I have a GM wanted for Flashing Blades at the moment, but no takers. I attempted to run a FB game a few months ago, but my eyes are so bad anymore, I can only be a player for the most part. Hard to believe, as I used to GM Three different long lasting campaigns of FB back in the day.

If anyone knows of someone that might be interest in being a GM for this wonderful game, please let me know by rmail.

Thank you all,and god bless. :)

Re: Shall we

I was actually seeking a GM to run a FB character of mine. But I always wanted to try my hand at running a FB game on here. I might be convinced to do that. But please keep in mind, I suck at getting maps, pics and such on here.

I ran Flashing Blade games, table top wise for years. Three campaign to be exact. No, make that four, Three set in France, and one using High Seas, set in the new world.

What might you be interested, character wise?

Re: Shall we

It would be set in France, in the year of our Lord 1625.  I would like new characters for the game. If you choose a noble, and take title as an advantage, you roll and see what the dice gods decide.

Re: Shall we
Yes, I am trying to get a game going with no more then three players. Semi Sand Box in forum,It shall be set in the Year of our Lord Sixteen Hundred and Twenty Five. April.

Look, I am going to be totally honest here, it is the only way if I am to GM FB. Table top wise, I am a damn good GM for this game. I know the period well, and even do funny accents. lol. But seriously, I have always been intimidated by the thought of GMing on RPOL. Call it an inferiority complex , of sorts. I am not Tech Savvy, I don't know how to put maps, pictures, etc on the threads. I might make grammar mistakes, a comma goof here and what not. That is why I always shyed away from doing what I am going to attempt now. And HATE the RPOL GM controls.

But  if none of that will put anyone that wants to play off, I am willing to give it a go.

If someone wants to rp a noble fine. But if the character has "title" I as the GM roll for it, Just a table top tradition I am keeping for FB.

Re: Shall we
Still here and confused as usual with the damn GM controls. Dumas, if you would be so kind as to delete the old non active characters and places from the old adventures. When you have the time of course.

Gentleman, while I use the tables for the game, certain things can be done by rp in certain instances. A good example of how this might take place is as follows.

In the Three Musketeers, "D'Artagnan went to his father’s old comrade in arms, Captain of the King’s Black Musketeers. The young man had a letter of introduction from his father asking the good Captain to find place for his son. Now in the movies, Treville declined "D'Artagnan on the basis of no experience, and offered to write a letter of introduction to another Regiment. This is clap trap. As  Captain, he could have taken "D'Artagnan on as one of his aide de camps. Ergo, by rping such a scene and perhaps a good luck or another skill roll, the character finds himself in the Black Musketeers. I prefer Role play over roll play, but I do use dice when I think it warranted.

Also, any roll for stats under ten, reroll and don’t take anything under a roll of ten.
Sorry for not getting this out sooner. I hope to entertain you folks, I am just so hot on the technical
