Re: The south road!
It is important to determine where the attack hitys. Pick a location and roll a d20 twice. The one closest to where you shot is where it hits.

Tho you realise your error, but too late... Pier taunts. Gentlemen we need a prisoner or two... at the least he prompts his companions at arms. With Rapier and Main gauche at the ready he maneuvers to flank the  brigand leader.

Unfortunately, these are the times we live in. Kill one rat and another 5 will take its place. Let the rat catchers do their job, and we shall do ours.

David sheathes his rapier, and looks to make sure that none of his companions are hurt.

We shall inform the Ministry of Justice, and they shall send in a brute squad to deal with this area lawlessness.

Re: The south road!
The leader is caught. He says,"I didn't know you were nobles. the Baron that came here before you said you are merchants covered in loot. This was just a snath and grab. No one was meant to be seriously hurt."  He tells you the Baron's name D'lie-de-batz. You then let him go. Realizing the nearest City Guard is a half hour ride to Valence and another hour or so to bring them back here. Now unless you have something else to add please move on to the King Of Theives scene.

No definitely not.

If any of you think it's more trouble than our worth to see the Kings laws upheld I Thugest you thould surrender your lands, positions and heritage and move to another country. What we should do it truss the blackguard up, thecurely on top of the wagon and thurrender to the authorities when we have an opportunity. This will be in Marseilles

Re: The south road!
What we should do is execute him. That way we are not bothered by the time it takes to deal with the Ministry, and there are few questions about why he and his scum friends would attack us.

David pulls out his pistol aims it at the captive.

If, you are religious I would make your peace now.

Having put the man down with his sword thrust and having been on top of him from the start, Gaunoux had picked up the man's pistol and stuck it in his secured it in his belt.

He let the nobles question the man but noted the name of the Baron.

Hearing them discussing the man's fate the young rogue was a bit surprised to here them discussing murder. He tried to recall what he could of the law, and what should be the brigand's fate , but he came up empty.

"The last thing we need to do is discuss our business in front of him in any case."

Re: The south road!
As you all discuss what to do with the brigand he succumbs to his wounds. He had after all been shot, and then taken a vicious thrust to the head. With a shudder he exhales a final breathe, the vapor visible to all in the cold air of the night.

The night is silent.

Their is little to do now go to sleep.

By morning the local constabulary arrive, but given the rank of the nobles in your group and the witnesses statements to the events they take away the dead man and any prisoners depart without much trouble at all.

Now with the knowledge that you are hunted men you depart for Marseilles.

Re: The south road!
After four days on the road traveling through your beloved France you arrive in Marseilles.

Arriving in the city, Pendu motions that he will drop you and await you to complete your task here at a local inn he points out. Having traveled with the silent man for four days you all manage to understand his gestures. Understood he drives the coach and horses to a nearby stable and makes his way to an inn.

Gathered together you opened the Archduke's envelope. Inside you find a letter, and a gold coin. The gold coin is stamped on both sides with the Archduke's crossed swords.

The letter contained the following:

quote:
Take this coin to the King of Theives. You will likely find him at the Tavern Trencavel on the Rue St Marie. You will receive further instrcutions from him.
