I'm presuming the aircraft will hold us all?

Heliopolis Airdrome is where we'd put down as there's no airport in Cairo.

Re: OOC Posts I

I'm back in the land of the living and will get an IC post tonight.

I think that my Vimy can carry 11 or so.

A nice party in Egypt would be lots of fun... I'm not sure how quiet we want to stay but if Tefik escaped we may want to stay on the QT.

welcome back.  Oh nonsense.  Why stay on the QT?  Full steam ahead with both barrels.  Isn't that what a barnstormer would do?

Yes, full steam ahead would be far more fun!

Re: OOC Posts I

Tefwik knew us by sight. I'm sure quite a few people knew us by name. Regardless, a rich lady, a reporter, a couple combat vets and a titled book dealer traveling together are rather distinguishing.

I don't recall us discussing how subtle we would be. I always assumed it would be 'subtle'. But I don't want to post if we agreed to something else and I'm just not remembering.

Well if they know you by sight being subtle is probably best.

Re: OOC Posts I

As an aside, the nutty artist whose house burned down; does that need to be added in the clues thread? If it's not likely to be relevant we don't have to.

Also I need to remember to show Captain Mahfouz the painting of the mountain that I bought, to see if he can identify it.

The artist seems incidental, but tangentially connected due to the painting. As well, the dead lizard-person you found in the basement of the burned house.

Re: OOC Posts I

Obviously the ease of getting fake passports is up to you Keeper. I think it's something that Alex can certainly get done. Unfortunately since 1920 they're the 32page blue book and not a one sheet of paper with a photo.

Folk need to come up with their alter ego's names and professions if we go this route.

Tourists? Would probably be the most sensible

Geologists? Archaeologists? Big game hunters on the way to Sudan and Kenya?

In reply to Alexander Hussein Mahfouz (msg # 981):

As it says in the TV show "Burn Notice", forging a modern passport is almost impossible but you can forge some of the pages, which are sewn together. So you can replace 2 pages but need to be able to sew the book back together using the correct binding thread.

In reply to The Keeper (msg # 982):

I was thinking of just purchasing new ones and going from there.  One way would be to use dead person's birth certificates, though I'm hoping that someone Alexander knows will provide everything that we would need for a price.

If that's not doable or Alex hasn't the relevant contacts, we can slip in to Egypt and take it from there, 'vanishing' under pseudonyms.

All a person's information was handwritten in British passports up till 1988 and if folk don't mind travelling as married then wive's can go on the same passport of their husband. Cuts down on costs straight away.

Being that he crosses borders so often in that part of the world, it's possible he knows a guy who knows a guy who knows something about fake documents. It's not certain, though!

In reply to The Keeper (msg # 984):

Of course.

Uncertainty is what makes the world go round!

I must stress again that the passports I would be seeking are not fake, but the real deal with fake names. As for documents in Egypt, permits and so forth, he would more than likely contact the relevant official and hand over Baksheesh, easy peezy. I think it would be easier to just go to Cairo and wing it myself as Alex might have a better chance there, especially now that it's self rule.

Contact wise in Britain it could be someone he went to school with, who now works in the home office. Nothing like abusing the old boy system.

Alexander walks a fine line between respectability and downright criminality. This is what Alexander does. Need to smuggle some Archaeological finds out...He'll help etc etc.

As always if it doesn't work i I'm totally cool. He'll just try his best.

Liberal use of persuade, credit rating , bargain and cash. Pleading on bended knee is that a skill? :)

sorry guys but I was chuckling when I was reading that.  I just pictured the scene in Congo where they arrive and are getting ready to change plans at the airport.  The coup has just gone off and the driver in the jeep is quickly stamping everybody's papers.

Congo was such a terrible movie sprinkled with such great little scenes.

I think geologists would be the best cover. No one suspects the geologists. However, it would help if someone in the party knew something about geology. Archeologist is probably easier, and Cynthia knows enough she wouldn't even have to post as anyone's tag-along wife!

Alexander could of course 'hire' you all to 'work' for his business.

Governess....Tutor....Office manager....Pilot for his expeditions....Crew.....

The options are endless. Though I think tourists/guests gives you the greatest freedom to be hones,t and with no uneasy questions to be asked.

Alex will telegraph ahead and have documents waiting for you in Cairo. Weapon permits, passports if possible and anything else you might need. Insha'Allah.

(Depending on what our Keeper says)

I can't see him having any luck with passports here in London in two days.

My men can clear a landing place for you in either the desert or at one of our tobacco plantations. Wouldn't surprise me if my Father-in-law had a strip all ready for a private plan. Rich Greek-Egyptian tobacco family.

I had fun talking IC with you all.
