Re: New player

Further, you do have several cultist costumes with you, if you want to go in disguised. These were gathered in England so Chi-Yin may or may not have seen them.

Sneaking in is not my strength. But cultist robes would work. I’d totally forgotten those!!!

(Work blocked RPoL recently. Ugh! Why do they think I’m even at work in the first place???)

Even though he's keeping watch, Bathony should really consider jumping in and taking out the third guard. There are other NPCs in the corridor that can keep an eye out.

Right now the two choices are everyone escorts the prisoners back to the surface, or some NPCs escort them while the rest continue on as quickly as possible. Count Bathony seems in favour of the former course, Cynthia the latter.

Which is your preference?

Thanks! I'll move things along then.

As well, you all passed your SAN checks.

Should we attack the group looking to retrieve the prisoners or set up and attack the main chamber ?

Re: New player

I imagine everyone is wondering what you need to do here other than cause mass carnage.

The following was supplied by Dr. Ali Khafour before you departed.

This ceremony is intended to resurrect the Black Pharaoh's bride, Nitocris. To do this they need her mummified remains, which presumably lies in the sarcophagus on the altar. They will present three sacred articles: the Necklace, Girdle and Crown of Nitocris. The cult has all three. The last is to sacrifice someone who is imbued with great psychic ability. This will release power, which will be focused by the artefacts into the mummy of Nitocris. Miss Agatha was supposed to be that victim, but she has been spirited away to safety so they likely found another victim as a substitute.

Once the ceremony begins whatever you will do will become more difficult. One objective is to disrupt the ceremony before it starts. But unless the mummy and the artefacts are destroyed, the cult can just try again. It would help to eliminate the local high priest, Omar al-Shakti, but you don't see him. If you obtain the artefacts, you have spells available that will destroy them. As they need all three, destroying one should work. Dr. Khafour says there are other ways but he did not have time to prepare them before the ceremony. But if he can, he'll send assistance. The mummy is also effectively invulnerable at this time due to spells and incantations placed on it.

Re: New player

Woah... changing up the RPoL interface is a nice touch, Tony! Definitely gives it that 'you're not in your normal space' feeling...

How do we know the mummy is protected by a spell? i.e., is there something visible? Or is this more of a "at least one of the three items needs to get stolen" sort of thing, because they've been protected for ages and dynamiting the whole pyramid wouldn't be enough to destroy them? Are we able to see the other two (girdle and necklace)? Maybe they're visible on the mummy?

Also will admit, this is a lot more cultists than I expected. I imagined something like Rotary Club scale.

Re: New player

In reply to Cynthia Jane Holloway (msg # 425):

Ha! I thought I was just changing my own interface. Glad to hear green-on-black is suitably on-theme!

I assume you had been briefed with Khafour. He believes the mummy is strongly protected by spells. Therefore simply collapsing the chamber on to it is not going to do anything more than delay the resurrection. (You don't think you are actually under a pyramid at the moment due to the distance you traveled underground but you are still in Giza.) The cultists already summoned some kind of burrowing horror to try and steal the Girdle from the ibn Tulun mosque by tunneling from underneath. Even simply using a steam shovel or a work gang with picks and shovels would dig deep enough in a week or so to find it if it's being tracked mystically.

Dr. Khafour did say he was trying to find an alternative method. If he obtains one in time, he knows where to find you.

BTW, as I have zero skill in martial arts, what would I roll to put a dagger into someone? Specifically someone who is disinterested in being daggered?

In reply to Cynthia Jane Holloway (msg # 430):

Everyone has a base 25% to-hit with small knife. It depends on what you do. If you carefully sidle up next to the mummy and, while everyone is distracted, calmly slide it into an eye socket there is no roll. If you were to sprint up and try an overhand stab, that would be a skill check. Throwing the knife would require a Throw skill check.

They'd love the help!

The plan is Nigel (NPC) and Cynthia are infiltrating the crowd on the chamaber floor. Nigel will provide a distraction while Cynthia plunges an ornate arcane dagger into the eye of a mummified Nitocris. The rest of the crew is on a balcony above the chamber near the entrance. They will provide covering fire to try and allow Cynthia and Nigel's escape.
