I was out with some co-workers last night for a farewell party for a beloved supervisor, and while they got beers, I got some fruity girl drink.
It wasn't bad, honestly.

I don't do girl drinks...

I do shots

I'm allegic to some fruits, and to 'false sugar' and it's hard to know what they put in the mixed drinks, so I just do pure booze in shots :)

But yes, drinks are popular cause they do taste nice, beer is popular... because?

it doesn't taste nice at all..

I've known people who've claimed to love the taste of beer, but I think that they're rare.   I think most people drink beer because of peer pressure.

*grins*   Sure, it makes sense.  After all, don't most of us try drugs and alcohol because of pressure from friends?   Heck, most of my experiences with both were in social situations where I didn't want to be a "square".

I'm not a huge fan of beer.  I drink it only socially.  I'm more fond of Ciders and Vodka based drinks.

Mind you, there are some nice beers out there and Guinness actually from Ireland is pretty tasty.

Anyone like Sake? I haven't tasted it yet but I heard it is very sweet.

Sake is nice too.  That's my drink when I go out to Japanese restaurants.

It's amazing when you think about it just how Man has managed to distill liquor from all manner of foods.

Sake = Rice
Vodka = Potatoes
Gin = Juniper berries
Whiskey = Grain
Rum = Sugarcane
Wine = Grapes

If it rots, we can make liquor out of it.  :)

O.K. Serious question #1:- What the hell do you do when the two people you admire the most are in the same game together and don't get along? To the point where they want to avoid each other. This is further complicated by one of them being my co-gm and up until this point has been rping with the other person.

Ouch!   Yes, that's a tough one.   I had two groups of gaming friends that I brought together for a big game once, and they HATED each other.

There was nothing for me to do except not repeat the meeting, but that was in a one time live game, so it was easier to do.


I guess I'd ask why they don't like each other, and try to either solve the problem, or just give them a reason not to get on each other's nerves.
If everyone has to game together, you can try to get them to play nice "for the sake of the game", but it might just be better to have them move into different storylines, having the other Co Gm take care of the other player.

LOL. Things blew up big time between them on Friday and now the weekend has had both parties licking wounds. I think they've come to an understanding where they're just gonna void each other.

I'm glad that they have at least kind of settled things.    A truce is better than nothing.

I game to relax and to express creativity, so I'll admit that I don't even like conflict characters all that much, let alone conflict between players.

Well its worse when both players are good friends of mine.

Rpol is becoming more stressful than RL. And my RL is pretty stressful :-(

Yes, the only thing worse then having two of your friends hating each other is when they ask you to take sides.  Hopefully that won't happen.

I hate to say it, but it's perfectly normal, as I'm sure you know, for people to not like each other even if they both like you.   I've been stunned in my youth to find people I liked actually disliked each other.    It's like a bad Algebra equation; "If I like A and I like B, then logically, A and B should like each other, right?"

It's almost as bad when your boyfriend or girlfriend doesn't get along with your platonic friends.   Very frustrating.

As I'm sure you know, all you can do is just stay out of the way and try to keep them apart.   I wish you luck, my friend.

It's Sirius Satellite Radio.  There are hundreds of channels.  Many worthless or boring (like twenty sports channels) but there are at least six comedy channels, with various comedy styles.

anyway, I was lucky, I have a talent for languages, so I am fluent in english, but I do make odd intonation mistakes at times, but oh well

I'm very jealous.   I'm horrible at languages.   I took years of French, from childhood through college, and remember less then a dozen words.

I do some accents, but not many, and not well.

I can speak Spanish, Greek and German quite fluidly. Accents and all.

However, I don't understand a word of it.

I'm like a parrot.

I'm pretty lazy, so I don't have the ambition to read or do a lot of research, but I love stories of history of Europe or anywhere else.   I'm a big fan.

and I've tried to find any good books about american history before the white man came, but well, I can't find any?

it's like you haven't written any books that goes international about the native americans other than Pocahontas, and she wasn't even mentioned before white man again...

It bothers me, we have this rich and detailed story about all the crazy romans, greeks and asians

And very little about native americans, native canadians and aborigins in Australia

Even the Incan people have more said about them, cause they were crazy

*chuckles*   I think that was because the native Americans didn't feel the need to record as much, and also because many historical things were probably destroyed by the white people.

Stillx there are books about Native American history, if you look for them.   They had lots of oral traditions handed down, much of which is being recorded more and more.

You can probably find many of them on the internet.

Most Native peoples have informational websites these days, like the Cherokee and such.   There's an information center in Oklahoma that I'm sure has a website, as well as material for sale.

I've never heard of duolingo.  Sounds interesting.

Still, the only good way to get good at a language is to practice it.  You have to ignore a few grammar Nazis along they way, of course, or try to take their whining as a chance to learn.

I've greeted a lot of new people in the Beginners thread, and I always reassure non-English speaking people that they have nothing to worry about.   Most of them write English better than I do.  :)

well, that is because those that learn a language get really paranoid about being understood

I must confess, I sometimes have a hard time knowing if it is 'aloud or allowed' I should use

but I usually stare at it till I know, which 'looks' right

I spell my mother-tongue appallingly wrong, because 'I know it like the back of my hand' so I never re-check that it is right

My grammar and spelling have gone downhill considerably since I left school, so I know what you mean.

Many words always looked spelled wrong to me, even after I double check them.


And, if I might try to help;
"Aloud" is when you say something out loud, like speaking.
"The wizard had to read the scroll ALOUD to have the magic work."

"Allowed" is something that is permitted.
"A wizard is ALLOWED to carry a dagger as a weaon, but is not ALLOWED to use a sword, by order of the Wizard Council."


My English isn't nearly as good as it should be, but I'm here as a resource if you need me.

I'm following about a dozen webcomics, more or less, so I'll add this to the queue.

I followed many before, now I've had to cut it down to like 30... I kept having to get a new computer and losing the URLs of the comics and when I finally remembered their names, it was so much backlog to read through, so I just gave up

I tend to lose track of mine for months at a time, which, I'll admit, makes them more fun to read all at once.

I am just one of those that needs to be able to drop things I can't do, and not just leave it, I'm not much of a collector of undone activities

*chuckles*   I, on the other hand, am a collector of unfinished hobbies.    I have a huge "get around to it" list, sadly

I have this little note-book filled with books to read and authors to look into

I check them off when I have read them, so that is my collection, a bunch of words in a book

I do rarely buy the book, as it'd be huge amount of books, I love reading

I try to go through the local library or used book stores.   I know people who read books online,  or download them, but that feels weird to me.





By the way, I'm on my phone right now,  and it's running out of battery life.   If I vanish suddenly, that's why.    :)

I've had a few movies disappear in my time, I have no idea why people think it's okay to 'borrow' a movie, never return it, and think it's not stealing....

if I remembered who borrowed the movies, I'd get them back, and never be friends with that person again

Books can be stolen as well, though they're inherently less valuable, unless they're some kind of collector's edition.
I learned from some friends of mine about lending out books or movies.  They had three categories of books.:

pile 1:  Yes, go ahead and borrow it.  Bring it back whenever.  I like the book, but I can live without it.

Pile 2:  Yes, go ahead and borrow it.  But bring it back soon. I like it very much and don't want to lose it.


Pile 3:  Go ahead and read it, but it does  NOT leave the house.  Ever.  It's one of my favorites and if you borrow it I will come to your house and get it.

I have only one category of books, and that is, If I've read it, it isn't important anymore, if I haven't read it, don't touch it!!

and I chipped a tooth today, and now I have no idea when I can afford having it fixed...

I need a job!!!!

I'm kind of like that with books, but I tend to reread them more than once.

I forget some of the details over time, or just like to relive the book.  :)


Here in America they have dental schools where you can get dental work done by students very cheaply.   Granted, it can be a risk having a novice dentist, but there are always teachers around, too.

I don't know what they have over here, I moved to norway, so I'm not so sure what they have

but I do guess, that it will cost some amount of money to fix, and I'm so short on money right now I am considering sitting outside, on the street begging...

You need a paypal account and a computer with decent-speed internet and be able to write/read English, (I know you can do that).

I will admit it is kinda hard. I had been doing it for about 2 months before I got paid $117. I wouldn't worry about the conversion thing though as they have special instructions for conversion to Norway currency. Plus once you get past 4 articles they start paying $200 or the Norway equivalent.

 I've done 2 and am working on more. One of them was just taken out of editorial but told to be revised.

Though living in a dirty house won't be helpful in getting healthy, but I know what you mean.   Getting healthy should be a priority, not wearing oneself out cleaning.

I usually change and wash my sheets and all clothes when I'm sick

I didn't do it last time I was sick, maybe that is why I am sick again, it was a week since last sickness...

I feel awful, I imagined myself to be one of those rodeo bulls, first been ridden to near exhaustion by a clown (The first sickness was ridiculous) and then, let to recover some energies so that when the rodeo cowboy got to really show of his talents when he rode that bull (The second sickness felt like it was really trying to kill me)

Definitely a good plan.  Perhaps I'm sicker than I need to be because I don't clean my house as much as I should.  Cleanliness is a good part of staying healthy, certainly.

well, having things filthy also makes ones immune-system work over time, as they protect against constant attacks

so it should also make immune-system better

but yes, cleaning it, as in really washing all things, once a year or so, should be done

The problem with making an immune system work harder it that it also gets tired and less able to protect us.   That's why people get sick when they are out in the cool.  It's not the cold that makes them sick, it's the cold that weakens their immune system.

I clean up the garbage, but I get behind on the dusting and the clutter.  Still, it's not too bad.

Man I hate playing the waiting game. I've a couple of articles in and out of editorial and it sometimes takes a whole week to respond to them. I wouldn't mind so much except that even when they are approved they give you barely any indications.

 I love the work and hate the waiting.

Yes, it's always hard to do your best, and then have to wait for others to come through.  it's similar with job interviews, test results, and even applying for a game in Rpol.

I have a vacation coming up, and wanted to let everyone know.
 I'm leaving, probably in a week, for the Pennsic War, an SCA event in Pennsylvania.  I'm not positive when I'll be leaving, but it'll be sometime in the last week and a half of July (not very helpful, I know).
Technically,  I'm on vacation starting today,  July 22, until August 10th, with the event starting on the 25th and ending the 9th.

Of course,  we're WAY behind in our preparations so we might not leave for a few days, perhaps a week.  letting everyone I game with know my status was, of course,  one of the preparations I forgot about.  *smiles sheepishly*.)

  I won't be back home until a week into August.  That being said, I'll have a smart phone on me, as well as some limited access to the Internet (since most of the medieval enthusiasts there are also huge nerds like me, there's an Internet station there, covertly hidden,  for people who can't be without Internet for personal or business reasons)

 Now,  I've been threatened, on pain of random smacks about the head, not to be on my a computer for the week or two we'll be here..
  I probably still will, because I'm a rpol junkie, but it will be much reduced.

  Sorry for the inconvenience, and if I'm around to answer questions, I still will.

Nothing wrong with living in the same house. Moving is exhausting.
I'm currently in the land of the rising sun, where right now schools are closed, events are cancelled, and at my office they're making us open the windows to ventilate the rooms for five minutes every hour. Really makes you feel how close the words "pandemic" and "panic" are.

It's still starting up here in the states, but we'll see how they handle it.

Well, people back in the states don't have this weird idea that a cheap mask alone will stop microscopic particles from infecting them. So as long as people actually keep washing their hands with soap, I'm optimistic.

Japan is beautiful, and in a few weeks when the sakura bloom it's gonna be even more beautiful. But yeah, I wouldn't recommend visiting any time soon, for sure.

Howdy folks! Good to see some of ya'll are alive and staying far away from the coronavirus...which primarily spreads from people not washing their hands and touching on people who don't wash their hands.

I went to the store the other day and they're all sold out of hand sanitizer and bottled water. But they're FULLY stocked on hand soap...because people will panic to buy supplies like it's the end of the world but REFUSE to wash their hands...

Good to see you, Arkrim.  Yes, people love their instant cures but not working for basic hygiene.    Good times

We've been sold out of masks and hand sanitizer for a while now, but yeah, it's weird, but people over here don't seem to believe in soap and warm water. Public bathrooms don't even have either half the time. And that's scary.

(And we had a weird toilet paper shortage for a while because everyone thought they wouldn't be able to get it with factories shutting down in China, but despite all that panicking, most toilet paper in Japan is actually made in Japan. Funny thing.)

I can't tell you how many people I've seen leaving a restroom without washing their hands, and how many of them give me a strange look after I suggest it to them, as if I'm the weirdo.

But here I spend all day taking the paper from people whose profession takes them all over america,  south, central, and north.

Then one January with covid winding down..
and My taking papers from drivers from all over the country.
I realized I had as many reasonably serious falls in that month as the whole year before doing the same things.
It was early retirement but still got Social Security.

As a Kid forever ago I fell under a farm wagon..
It was empty and not really very heavy.
But it was traumatic until I realized that.
