Alice came over, started checking on the downed knight. She pulled off his helmet, noted the thick beard. It was a man in his 20's.

"He's been hit with a shotgun blast. Abdominal. His armour saved his life." She began administering first aid.

Daniel brought a limping Filat over. "Hey. Work on our guy first. Not these clowns."

There isn't a lot to be done with the horses, at least without veterinary training and experience. Bobby walked over, drew his Hi-Power, and began shooting the wounded horses. "Man, what a waste. I wonder who these assholes were?"

Jimmy pauses and takes a look between the wounded attacker and Filat.

"Daniel, let Alice do triage in her own order.  The man who is most likely to die without medical attention pronto gets it first, or however the medic decides.  Have we forgotten what the Project is about?"

He winces as yet another horse is shot.

"Maybe if we treat them like people instead of.. clowns.. they can become allies?"

Shaking his head, he set Filat down and started working on getting the arrow stabilised.

Tim watched the brush up the bank as the team worked on the log. "ETA on the log and when we can get moving, over." He moves his hand back to the grip on the MG as he concentrates on spotting any movement of the surrounding vegetation.

Not stopping work, Bobby called up to Tim (they were maybe 5-10 metres apart) "give me thirty seconds to move the tree!" He finished with hooking up the chain to the tow truck's winch, then hustled over to get inside Windigo.

Jimmy nods to all three.  The decision at this point seems obvious.  His voice softens as he speaks to Alice.

"Alice, if we can't have him stable fast... we have to let him go.  We don't have the time.  We got a priest handy?"

He looks over to Bobby, calls out.

"Bobby!  What can I do to assist?!"

Jimmy will try to assist with any further duties, or go back to keeping watch.

He said to Jimmy in a low voice, "hey, I realise you were just trying to help. We're here to save lives. Somehow. Things aren't making a lot of sense right now with these clowns. So we grab on to what we know, what we've been trained. Don't worry, you'll get to help people out. People that want it. Because I have a feeling I know who these guys are, and they wouldn't want the kind of help you or the Project can give them or other people. In fact, they want to stop us from helping people if they can."

As he talked, he began dragging one of the dead "knights" out of the way. Soon they'd be moving the vehicles through here when the way was clear. Oddly, this man was dressed as a European knight but armed with a matched pair of Japanese swords, a katana and wakizashi known as the Dai-Sho.

Jimmy nodded to Daniel, replying with a similar low voice as he assisted Daniel dragging the dead man out of the path of the vehicles.

"Sorry Daniel.  Us new arrivals don't know the political situation.. I guess you can call it that, at all.  Sounds like a solid 'Fuck these assholes', huh?"

"Alice, we'll take him with us.

"Load as much of your gear onto Windigo as you can. That'll create some space in the Ranger. If he croaks, he croaks. Maybe we can leave him where his buddies will find him. I guess that was the smoke we saw over in Bellingham."

As Jimmy and Daniel cleared the trail of corpses of men and horses, Tina and Lina created space in the rear of the Ranger. They then transported the wounded bandit and laid him in the back, making him as comfortable as possible. Bobby started the winch on Windigo and moved the tow truck forward, starting to clear the fallen tree. Alice started treating Filat's knee. There wasn't a lot she could do, except remove the arrow and stabilise his leg. Dylan and Kim had a look at the Scout's front left wheel to see if it could be fixed.

Jenna, their scout, was nowhere to be seen. They were about half done when a fusilade of several shots, semi-automatic, rang through the forest from the west in the direction Jenna had disappeared in. It sounded like she was shooting someone with her M10B shotgun. Range a couple hundred metres.

Jimmy hits the radio immediately.

"Tallfeather!  Report!"

He looks around to see who he can pull for an investigative group.

"If you aren't busy and not wounded, assemble on me.  We may need to bail out Tallfeather."

Jimmy loads his 203 again, with an HE round.

Jimmy didn't wait long, once he had a few people he gestured in the direction of the gunfire.

"On me, best speed for terrain folks.  If it's a one of those tin cans, put a bullet in it."

Jimmy will take off at a jog, the safety on his M16 off again, but no finger on trigger.

Jimmy, Bobby, Tina and Lina pushed past the Scout and advanced around the corner up the trail.

Around the corner was a road-block of several felled trees. They looked to have been chopped down by hand. It was deserted. There was no sign of Jenna.

Jimmy can't hear anything. The ATV was battery powered, meaning it would need to be close as there was virtually no engine noise.

He does see that the ATV's tracks go around the roadblock to the right. Several horses have also traveled through here, both ways, and generally going around the barricade to the left.

The tracks went around the barricade, then continued down the trail. The horse tracks also continued down the trail.
