In reply to Jenna 'Tallfeather' Bartram (msg # 392):

Daniel stepped forward and nodded to Jenna as Bobby and Tina covered the trail.

"Glad to see you're alive and unhurt. Let's not waste more time, we gotta move."

Jenna grinned. "Thank Windigo. Glad ya came to bail me out.  Let's go get your truck out from the mess these guys left and get back to Base."

"Carson, let's look for a weak spot in the barrier. A point where if you apply pressure the whole thing will break up.  If they put it in they probably had some way to pull it apart again."

In reply to Jenna 'Tallfeather' Bartram (msg # 398):

Daniel looked at the abatis and shook his head. "Maybe, but I don't think so. These trees were felled to make it difficult to pull apart. They had horses, they could go around it. But vehicles would need to clear it.

"I say we use some C4. Kind of a waste, but to work at this would mean being delayed for an hour, or more."

Jenna nodded. "Explosives would be noisy, but we can't delay. We don't want to be caught on the Open Road at night."

Tina flashed Jimmy a puzzled look. She finished getting the demo kit, then stopped.

"Slow down, Jimmy. Tim's still the team leader. I think we need his opinion on this."

"Jenna, Jimmy, could you cover me?"

She got her kit and started to prep charges made from C4 and det-cord and a timer to clear the roadblock.

"I need a volunteer to take over the MG while I get a look at the obstacle ?" Assuming someone puts up their hand Tim makes the swap before going and having a look at the hold up. As he walks down the line of vehicles he stops to look them over. Taking more then a moment to assess the Scout.

Once at the obstacle he asks Jimmy "All our people accounted for, what about the relief squad ?"

Re: Fade Away and Radiate

As Tina was the backup GP-gunner as well as demo expert, Daniel volunteered to man the top MG.

Dylan reported on the condition of the Scout. The front suspension and front left wheel had taken considerable damage. The vehicle was still driveable but only barely. If they drove it under its own power there was approximately than 50% chance per kilometre of a wheel/steering failure.

The barricade looked to be an abatis barrier made from trees chopped partway through by axe, then pulled down by horses in an interlocking pattern across the path. Low-tech but effective. There were also iron caltrops spread out in front of the barrier of felled trees.

Tina worked quickly, setting the C4 charges to blow through the centres of the falled trunks. It would be a simple matter to pull the debris out of the way afterwards.

In reply to Project Director (msg # 413):

Inspecting her handiwork, Tina laid a final line of Det-cord back to where the Scout was nosed-in to the woods, She would be beihnd it to trigger the demo charges. The trigger would be a ring-pull 10-second fuse wired to the Det-cord.

"Ok, ready to disco. Everyone find some cover!"

"No casualties on our side Tim, one wounded."

He looks downrange at Tina.

Jenna had been providing cover as ordered.  Now she ducked for cover, putting the closest vehicle between herself and the explosion. She covered her ears and braced for the big boom.

Re: Fade Away and Radiate
In reply to James (Jimmy) Gerrold MacGuire (msg # 417):

There was a tremendous explosion as several charges detonated at once. Debris and earth fountained up. Shards of wood from tree trunks metres long to toothpicks plus rocks and drit vaulted into the sky to rain down on the forest around them.

The boom echoed throughout the wooded hills around them.

Re: Fade Away and Radiate
In reply to Project Director (msg # 418):

Daniel took his fingers from his ears and whistled.

"Shoot. That's one way to clear a road! Ok. I'll hook up the Scout for a tow. Filat, you ride in the Ranger. All the extra gear is packed onto Windigo anyways. Captain Kim, you ride shotgun with me. Dylan, it'll be cramped but there's room for one more in the cab of the tow truck.

"Tim, I suggest we keep Jenna out first to scout, the Rander next to pull fire support. Windigo last. Sound good?"

Re: Fade Away and Radiate
In reply to Daniel Black Feather (msg # 419):

Tim went forward and checked the demo had done the job and they did not need to manhandle any of the larger pieces away. If it is clear he walks back down the line.

"Yes that sounds fine." He scans the surrounding terrain before walking back to the ranger. Along the way he will pick up a couple of the swords dropped by the attackers and places them into the back of the APC.

Before he swaps out and gets back behind the MG he asks about their patient.

Re: Fade Away and Radiate
In reply to Tim Charles White (msg # 420):

It looks like aside from the Morningstar that one attacker dropped, and the Katana/Wakizashi combination that Alice already picked up, these bandits were careful to not only collect their dead and wounded where they could but their weapons.

Alice confirmed the patient was still in critical condition but stable for now. "I see we're getting moving, good!"
